Many large cities in the United States have an area called Chinatown. Each of them was set up by people who came from China. For example, Chinatown in San Francisco, California, began in the 1840s. The Chinese immigrants came to America to look for gold. Then the area they lived in later became known as Chinatown.
Chinatowns were also set up in cities in the western states of Oregon (俄勒冈州) and Washington during the middle of the 19th century. Many Chinese immigrants in these areas helped build the first railroad system across the United States. However, after the work, many Chinese moved to the eastern and middle parts of the United States.
Chinatowns can also be found in cities outside the United States. For example, the first Chinese immigrants to London arrived in the late 18th century. They were men who worked for the East India Company. Later, the Chinese immigrants opened small shops and restaurants there.
Today, many people visit Chinatowns. They have special Chinese gates and walking areas for visitors. Chinatowns around the world are not only places where Chinese people live and work, they're also places where visitors can learn more about Chinese culture and traditions.
59.Who helped to build the first railroad system across the United States?
A.Chinese immigrants. B.Americans. C.Indians. D.The Britons.

C.The Chinese culture and tradition.
D.The Chinese immigrants' hard work in America.

Are you an “E” person or an “I” person? These come from the MBTI test. It is a popular personality test. An “I” person is usually shy while an “E” person is usually outgoing. All of the results have four letters (字母), and there are 16 results in all.
Many people are very interested in the test now. Gao Yanyi, a middle school student thinks that the MBTI test can help her find friends with similar MBTI results.
“People want to learn more about themselves,” Guo Yongyu, an expert said. “That helps them relax.”
However, there are also some problems. Ma Ruina, from Beijing No.4 Middle School, took the test once. He doesn’t want to use it again. “Everyone is different, and it’s not right to put people into simple groups,” he says.

In the past, connecting (与……有联系) with friends meant spending time with them in person (亲自). But now it is different.
Know more:In the past, people connected with friends in simple ways.● Meet friends face-to-face.
● Go to their friends’ homes to play or chat.
● Meet at places like parks or small shops.
● Talk and have a good time together.
With the development of technology, people’s lives have changed a lot. Today, more young people prefer to connect with their friends online. They think it is a good way to connect with their friends. However, some people think that connecting with friends online may make them lose their real-world friendships. Do you agree with it? Here are some ideas.
Agree
Disagree
Technology hurts friendships. When I communicate with a friend online, it’s not easy to understand what he or she really means and feels. We might think our friends are happy while they’re upset and angry.
A friend might send a text message as a joke. But our feelings might be bad because we think he’s serious.
Hi, I’m Jack. In fact, technology doesn’t hurt friendships at all. Instead, it can make them stronger.
For example, my best friends live in California where I used to live. The last time I met them in person was three years ago. But I talk to them online every weekend. It feels like they’re right here with me. Without technology, we couldn’t be so close friends.
According to experts (专家), connecting with friends online is not enough to build true friendships. Spending time together face-to-face is quite important, especially when people are in trouble. During hard times, people don’t need someone who likes their pictures or posts on social media. What they really need is someone who can offer them help.
73.Why do some people think that technology hurts friendships?
74.What is important to build true friendships according to experts?
75.Do you want to connect with your friends online or in person? Why?

Why?

Qingdao and Yantai are two beautiful seaside cities in Shandong Province. Many people like to travel to these two places in summer. Let’s compare them and find their differences and similarities.
First, let’s talk about the weather. The average rainfall in Qingdao is about 700 millimeters a year, while the average rainfall in Yantai is about 650 millimeters a year. So Qingdao gets more rain than Yantai.
For population, Qingdao has more than 10 million people, and Yantai has about 7 million. That means Qingdao’s population is larger than Yantai’s.
Of course, the two cities have a lot in common. They both have fresh sea air, clean beautiful beaches and very delicious seafood.
In my opinion, both cities are great to visit. Their differences give people different kinds of pleasant experiences, and bring us more fun when we travel.

Why?
73.Because when they communicate with friends online, it’s not easy to understand what their friends really mean and feel. 74.Spending time together face-to-face is quite important. 75.I prefer to connect with friends in person. Because face-to-face communication helps me better understand their emotions and build a deeper bond.
When I communicate with a friend online, it’s not easy to understand what he or she really means and feels.” Because when they communicate with friends online, it’s not easy to understand what their friends really mean and feel.
74.根据“According to experts, connecting with friends online is not enough to build true friendships. Spending time together face-to-face is quite important”可知,专家认为建立真正的友谊,面对面共度时光很重要。故填Spending time together face-to-face is quite important.
I prefer to connect with friends in person. Because face-to-face communication helps me better understand their emotions and build a deeper bond.
