Running should not be a dangerous activity. For your own safety, learn these tips and try to be a good runner!
Take your time
If you develop an interest in running, you may want to run often. However, overdoing it or pushing yourself too hard can cause you to get hurt. It’s also important not to run too fast at the beginning. Run at a pace (速度) that you feel comfortable. And if you’re planning on a long run, remember to increase (增加) your pace slowly.
Take breaks
Resting is as important as training. Your body needs time to rest after hard runs. Running coach (教练) Sam Murphy says that if you run hard one day, you should take a break or do an easier run the next day. Some runners follow the 80/20 plan:80% of their runs each week are easy, and only 20% are hard.
Have a strong body
Strength (力量) training is great for runners. It can help make your body stronger, lower the risk (风险) of getting hurt, and even improve your speed. However, this doesn’t mean you need to do heavy weight training. Simple exercises at home, like sit-ups and push-ups, can be good too.
Have a good diet
Eating and drinking the right things is also important. “Many people forget this.” Dr. Paul Hobrough said. “Drink lots of water and eat foods rich in protein (蛋白质), like eggs, chicken and milk. These can help your energy return quickly.”

“You’re going to do WHAT?” I asked my best friend, Julie, in alarm.
“I’m going to try out for the cheerleading squad (啦啦队),” she said, eyes fixed on the ground. We had been best friends since second grade and we did everything together. We had made many plans about what we would do this year, but now she was going off on her own. I was sure that if she joined the cheerleading squad, she would become best friends with someone else and I couldn’t stand (忍受) the thought.
“Why are you doing this? Do you really want to hang around with those girls instead of me?” I cried, my voice filled with anger.
“It’s not about the girls,” Julie said. “It’s about the sport. I want to be on the squad at the high school level because they win scholarships (奖学金) at state competitions, and I have a better chance if I’m on the squad here,” she explained. “Besides,” she added, “it’s not like I’m leaving the country or something.”
“Goodbye,” I marched off, leaving Julie standing with a sad look on her face.
The rest of that week I was unhappy, and I avoided Julie in the hall. I planned to watch the first game and take no notice of Julie. However, I was amazed by the enthusiasm (热情) and skill of Julie’s cheering. Although she was the youngest member of the team, Julie enthusiastically led cheer after cheer. I saw how her face lit up with joy. I was stunned (震惊的) as I realized that she loved the sport. Trying out for the team had nothing to do with me—maybe it was just something she wanted to do.
I approached (走近) her shyly, but Julie smiled immediately. “Hey, you were really great,” I began, and then I added at once, “I’m so sorry I’ve been rude to you about your joining the squad.”
Julie smiled and replied, “A group of us are going for ice cream. Why don’t you come along?”
___▲___, but I smiled in return. As I walked towards the cheerleaders, I realized there was room in Julie’s life for all of us. We could save the competition for the game.

33.第八段Julie温柔邀请作者一同吃冰淇淋,空格后出现转折连词but,句子“but I smiled in return”表明空格内容与微笑形成情绪反差,选项“Julie’s quick forgiveness made my eyes burn”贴合被好友轻易原谅后酸涩动容、再回以微笑的情感逻辑。

You’ve probably heard of sleepwalking (梦游). But do you know that some people eat in their sleep? Doctors call this problem SRED People with SRED get up at night and eat. Some even cook food. But when they wake up the next morning, they usually don’t remember what they did.
Sleep eating is a kind of parasomnia (异睡症). Just like sleepwalking. But it is not as common as sleepwalking. And experts say it can be one of the most difficult parasomnias to live with.
Sleep eating can happen several times a night, even when people are not hungry at all. It makes people feel tired and sleepy during the day. It can also cause them to put on weight. Sometimes, they may eat things that are not real food, which can be very dangerous. They may cut themselves with knives or start a small fire by accident when cooking.
Many things can cause SRED.Not getting enough sleep makes it easier to get SRED.Stress, some medicines, or other sleep problems like sleepwalking can also give people a higher chance of getting this problem.
How to deal with SRED is different for each person. Doctors may ask people to relax more, change some medicines, or see a sleep expert. Locking fridges at night is one way to keep them safe.

Nowadays, of the 70 well-protected (保护良好的) classical gardens, about 30% are open to people as places of interest. Among them, some famous gardens are examples of Suzhou Gardens, such as the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Lingering Garden, Master of the Nets Garden and so on.
Suzhou Gardens explain the ideas behind classical Chinese garden design in many ways. The designers were not just interested in where to plant trees and flowers, they also used history, art and philosophy (哲学) in their designs. Each thing in a garden—each hill, pond (池塘), plant and rock—is meaningful.
Now Suzhou Gardens are 5A places of interest in China and people added two groups of them to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List (世界文化遗产名录) in 1997 and 2000. Why not visit them when you have time? I’m sure you will enjoy the beauty of the gardens.
51.When did people build the first classical garden in Suzhou?
52.Why was Suzhou famous as the “City of Gardens”?

54.What does the third paragraph mainly tell us?

The practice of giving gifts is popular all over the world, because it is a wonderful way 56 (express) care and love. However, there are many different gift-giving taboos (禁忌) across cultures. You might 57 (easy) offend (冒犯) others unless you learn about local customs and traditions beforehand.
In China, “giving a clock” sounds like “attending a funeral (sòng zhōng)”, making it an 58 (proper) gift, especially for the elderly. “Umbrella” sounds like “scatter/separate” (sàn), and “pear” sounds like “part ways” (li). Both have the meaning of separation. The pronunciation of the Number 4 is so close to the word for “death” 59 Chinese people don’t like gifts in this amount (数量). In India, cows are very special to many people. Therefore, sending beef or leather (皮革) cow products to someone is one of the worst 60 (choice) you can make. And people in Germany 61 (follow) these old customs for a long time.
You may also be 62 (surprise) to learn that gifting a knife is unlucky in French culture, which means an end to friendship—locals think the blade (刀刃) will cut all friendly bonds. In Italy, a handkerchief is 63 unusual gift, for it connects with tears and farewell (告别).
If we truly respect different cultural taboos, we can better protect 64 (we) from unnecessary mistakes and get along well 65 people from different parts of the world.
56.to express 57.easily 58.improper 59.that 60.choices 61.have followed/have been following 62.surprised 63.an 64.ourselves 65.with
固定搭配“a way to do sth.”
此处考查so…that…
固定搭配“get along well with sb.表示“与某人相处融洽”,填介词with。

Last summer vacation, my family visited Suzhou Gardens. They are a group of beautiful gardens in Suzhou, Jiangsu. People built the first classical garden during the Spring and Autumn Period. In the following times, people built more and more gardens, but most of them were not open to visitors. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the building of the gardens came to its most popular time. It is said that there were more than 200 gardens all over the city, so Suzhou was famous as the “City of Gardens”.
