Passage 1
Researchers who examined DNA from famous German musician Ludwig van Beethoven have found something new about his health.
They found that he had a risk for liver(肝脏) disease. The DNA also showed that Beethoven caught the virus hepatitis B(乙肝病毒)in the last months of his life. The virus hurts the liver. The findings suggest Beethoven's liver problems were enough to cause the liver failure widely believed to have killed him. The musician was also believed to have been a heavy drinker, which can influence the liver.
The musician himself wrote that he wanted doctors to study his health problems after he died. Axel Schmidt is a researcher who helped lead the research. He said that Beethoven's sicknesses had“sometimes prevented his creative work".Schmidt added that for many doctors,"it has always been a mystery"what exactly killed him.
Since his death, scientists have long tried to piece together Beethoven's medical history. And they have offered many explanations for his many health conditions. But new examination technology and methods now make it possible to revisit(再次讨论)health and death information by studying ancient DNA. The DNA were collected from hair cut from Beethoven's head.
Getting enough genetic(遗传的)material was difficult because DNA in hair gets cut up into very small pieces. But finally, after using up almost 3meters of Beethoven's hair, the team finished it.
The question of what caused Beethoven's hearing loss remains unanswered.said Ohio State University's Dr Cooper. He said that the mystery might continue forever because DNA can not show us everything about our health. However. Cooper added that the mystery is part of what makes Beethoven so interesting and popular.“The fact that we can't know is OK,"he said.
1.What did researchers find by examining Beethoven's DNA?
A. Why he kept fit in the last months.
B.How he caught the virus hepatitis B.
C. What might have caused his death.
D. What he drank most while young.
2.What did Beethoven ask doctors to do?
A. Examine his DNA later.
B. Develop his creativity.
C. Keep his mystery forever.
D. Make a study of his health.
3.What difficulty did scientists have in examining Beethoven's DNA?
A. The technology was out of date.
B. It was hard to collect enough DNA.
C. There wasn't enough time to do research.
D. It took a lot of time to find Beethoven's hair.
4.It is still a mystery to people____according to the passage.
A. why Beethoven couldn't hear
B. what stopped Beethoven from creating music
C. how many explanations there were for Beethoven's death
D. what made it possible to revisit Beethoven's death information
5.What does Cooper think of Beethoven's mystery?
A. It may live a long time.
B. It will be cleared up soon.
C.It is a headache for scientists.
D. It encourages people to study DNA.
The findings suggest Beethoven's liver problems were enough to cause the liver failure widely believed to have killed him.
Beethoven's liver problems...have killed him 为省略了引导词 that的宾语从句,作suggest的宾语;在这个宾语从句中,widely believed to have killed him 作后置定语,修饰 the liver failure。
根据第二段中的“The findings suggest Beethoven's liver problems were enough to cause the liver failure widely believed to have killed him.”
根据第三段第一句“The musician himself wrote that he wanted doctors to study his health problems after he died.”
根据最后一段中的“The question of what caused Beethoven's hearing loss remains unanswered”可知,贝多芬为什么丧失听力的谜团仍未解开。
根据最后一段第二句“He said that the mystery might continue forever because DNA can not show us everything about our health.”

Before he turned three, his parents asked him what he wanted for his birthday.
Before在句中引导时间状语从句;在主句中,what he wanted for his birthday是what引导的宾语从句,作asked的直接宾语。
Seba Stephens
根据第二段中的“Before he turned three, his parents asked him what he wanted for his birthday. Drums!' he answered. So they bought him a junior drum kit.”
He couldn't get his junior drum kit to make the sounds he expected.”
Everett got special permission for Seba to join a summer music program at Berklee.”以及本段最后一句“A year later, Seba became the youngest person ever to receive a professional certificate from Berklee.”

Seba Stephens
Passage 3
Recently,University of Cambridge scientists carried out a study using two different robot health coaches. In four weeks, twenty-six participants(参与者) were guided through health exercises by one of two robots:either the QT or the Misty. QT is about 90 cm tall and looks like a child while Misty is a 36 cm tall toy-like robot. Both robots have the same voices, expressions, and way of talking.
The scientists found how the robots looked like had a great influence on how people communicated with them. Those who did their health exercises with Misty said they felt more of a connection with their “coach" than people who worked with QT.
The researchers said that people's expectations(期望)of robots are influenced by popular culture. For example,in films robots are so smart that they are able to do anything you can imagine. But when you face a robot in the real world,it often fails to match your expectations.
According to the researchers, since the toy-like robot looks simpler, people may have had lower expectations. So they find the robot easier to talk to and connect with. However, when people work with the human-like robot, they find it doesn't match their expectations.“The robot was not able to have interactive(交互式的)communication,'they said.
“It could be that since the Misty robot is more toy-like, it matched their expectations.”said Dr Micol Spitale, a scientist of the study."But since OT looks more like humans, they expected it to behave like a human. This may be why participants who worked with QT were not very interested. It's a challenge to create a robot that can have natural conversations with people.”
1. What can we know about the two robots?
A. They look the same.
B. They have different voices.
C. They talk in the same way.
D. They only have one expression.
2.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The purpose of the study.
B. The process of the study.
C. The methods of the study
D. The result of the study.
3.Compared to robots in movies, real robots might make people feel____.
A. a little disappointed
B. more interested
C. less nervous
D.more excited
4.Why didn't participants show much interest in QT?
A. They wanted to work with Misty.
B. They didn't like what QT taught.
C. Their expectations of QT were too high.
D. QT was not good at doing health exercises.
5.Where does the passage probably come from?
A. A storybook.
B. A film poster.
C. A travel guide.
D. A science magazine.
Those who did their health exercises with Misty said they felt more of a connection with their“coach”than people who worked with QT.
who did their health exercises with Misty是who引导的定语从句,修饰先行词 Those。they felt more of.who worked with QT是省略了that 的宾语从句.
根据第一段最后一句“Both robots have the same voices, expressions, and way of talking.”
