We are here at the mouth of the black river in cape town, busy cleaning this speech. I'm a free diver, so I spend most of my weekends in the ocean every time we can remove at least ten kilograms of plastic bottles. Plastic is a part of the global warming issue. IT takes a lot of fossil fuel to make plastic. We have a responsibility to keep the beaches clean, because a lot of this rubbish ends up in the ocean and will be consumed by a lot of us who enjoy seafood. Eventually, the ocean keeps the entire planet running and lively. We need to keep IT clean and safe so that we can keep on having sufficient oxygen. We are destroying our planet much faster than we thought. We have to protect IT. Over one hundred million marine animals are affected by plastic every single year.
