三、阅读理解

How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? There is a reason for this.
Scientists are studying something between music and remembering a foreign language, like English. “Singing could be a new way of learning, especially for a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things in a catchy (悦耳易记的) and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song,” said Dr Karen Ludke. If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages, this new way may help. On her blog, Dr Ludke wrote “A listen-and-repeat singing way can help to learn foreign languages and open the door for future study in this area.”
Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington, D.C. , likes using songs in teaching Chinese. She said, “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids, we use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics (歌词). Not only does it work, but it is fun for children.” “Sometimes I think if I learned English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better,” Hua Zhuying adds.
Our brain likes music in learning languages, especially for remembering. If you are still having problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

Do you like swimming? How can you learn to swim? I think the best way is to go into the water and learn. I’m afraid you’ll never learn to swim just by reading books about swimming or looking at others swimming. It’s the same with the English study. We must practice, practice and practice.
Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English-speaking countries first listen to others. Then they try to learn to speak. We can listen to English programs on the radio. You may just understand some words. It doesn’t matter. Just be relaxed, and try to catch every word.
Somebody may be a good listener. But he dare not speak. He’s afraid of making mistakes. You know we sometimes make mistakes when we speak Chinese. Don’t be afraid. We must be brave to speak aloud. If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with others. When there’s nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. It’s interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English. Remember: the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.
Reading and writing are more important for junior school students. First we must choose the books we’re interested in. Lots of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.

A growth mindset means that a person’s abilities and talents can be improved over time. It is different from a fixed mindset, which means that the ability to learn and improve can’t be meaningfully developed. Changing one’s mindset from a fixed mindset to a growth one may not seem easy. 1
Face your challenges bravely. If you find yourself scared in the face of a serious challenge, stop and try to consider your challenge as a chance. 2 Each challenge provides you with a new and exciting experience which will push you forward.
Speed is not important. When you have a growth mindset, the end results are less important. Instead, you are likely to pay more attention to the process, no matter how long it takes. 3
Allow yourself to fail and learn to accept it. The fact that you try and fail, and try and fail again may sound uncomfortable. 4 Many famous people failed terribly at first and then went on to become leaders, influencers and role models.
5 Someone else can see what you are doing from a different view. And he may have some valuable suggestions for you. So learn to accept others’ advice.
If you follow the steps above, you can develop a growth mindset more easily. With it, you will get the results you are looking for. And you are more likely to live the life you want to live.
A.But every failure is a step to success.
B.So how can we build a growth mindset?
C.This can make it easier for you to face it.
D.Open yourself up to hearing different opinions.

五、任务型阅读
Reading for pleasure is the easiest and one of the most important ways to become a better English reader. However, many middle school students don’t like to read for fun. They believe that pleasure reading is less useful than classroom reading and textbook learning. They think it is just a waste of time. But the truth is that reading for fun can bring you a lot of great advantages.
First of all, pleasure reading helps you improve your English in a relaxing way. When you read interesting stories or articles, you will naturally learn new words and see how grammar is used in real language. You don’t have to recite word lists or grammar rules boringly.
Second, it makes you read faster. During pleasure reading, you usually focus on the main idea instead of every single word, so your reading speed will become higher little by little.
Third, it is a good way to reduce your pressure from study. A wonderful story can take you to a different world and make you forget your worries for a while.
Many students wonder how to start pleasure reading. Here is some simple advice.
First, choose books that match your interests and level. Don’t pick books that are too hard or too boring. You can start with short novels, cartoon books or English magazines for teenagers. Second, make a proper reading plan. You don’t need to read for a long time once. Twenty minutes every day is enough. Third, you can join a reading club and share your ideas with other readers.
Reading for pleasure is not a heavy task, but a pleasant journey. It helps you learn knowledge and relax at the same time. Just open a book, and you will find a new world inside.
