摘要:
该初中英语课件围绕“永不放弃”主题,通过视频导入提问“What can you see in the video?”

This athlete is Derek Redmond. He suffered serious illness and injuries, but he still stood on the Olympic stage. How did he make it?
When we talk about the Olympics, most of us only think of gold medals. But today’s text tells us the true Olympic spirit. It’s not just about winning prizes. Let’s read and find out what the real Olympic spirit is.
The Olympic spirit
When people think of the Olympic Games, they often think of medals,
but the Olympics are about so much more. They are about friendship, fair play and never giving up. We call this the Olympic spirit, and we can see it in the hearts and stories of many Olympic athletes.
Kieran Behan, an Irish gymnast, had the dream of competing in the Olympics from a young age. When he was just 10 years old, he fell ill and doctors told him that he would never walk again. However, Kieran didn't let this stop him, and he worked hard to get back to training. He got injured when he was 12, and doctors said the same thing. But still, he didn't give up. Finally, at the age of 23, his dream came true: he made it to the London 2012 Olympics.
The Olympic Games are more than a competition. They celebrate not only amazing performances, but also people's will to keep going even when the way forward seems impossible.

The True Meaning of the Race
"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
Though Derek Redmond failed to win an Olympic medal in the 1992 Barcelona Games, his unforgettable journey became a global symbol of courage, determination, and the profound love between a father and son.
The Unforgettable Moment:Mid-race, Derek tore his hamstring. Refusing to be carried off, he began to hobble towards the finish line. His father, Jim, rushed from the stands to support him, helping his son complete the race. This act redefined the spirit of the Olympics.
