In classrooms and school board meetings across the U.S., a new generation of climate activists is making its voice heard. Teenagers, fed up with inaction on climate change, are leading a movement to retrofit (翻新) schools with eco-friendly upgrades.
Ila Coleman, 17, a senior at Grant High School in Portland, first got involved after learning her school spent $32,000 annually on electricity. “We knew we had to act.” Coleman and her classmates founded the “Green Grant (拨款)” club, researched energy-saving options, and presented a detailed proposal to the Portland Public Schools board. Their efforts paid off: the district approved $1.2 million in funding for retrofitting the school, which includes installing solar panels and upgrading lighting systems. Since last year, the school’s energy bills have dropped by 35%, and carbon emissions have fallen by 28%.
“We’re not just saving money — we’re teaching the school community about sustainability,” Coleman said. The club now leads monthly workshops on recycling, composting, and climate science, and has partnered with local environmental groups to plant native trees on campus. “Students used to ask, ‘What can one person do about climate change?’ Now they’re seeing tangible results from their own actions.”
“The passion and creativity of these young activists is remarkable,” said Dr. Lena Torres, an environmental scientist who works with student groups. “When students see solar panels on their roof or learn how to track energy use, they’re more likely to adopt sustainable habits at home.” The movement has also gained support from educators. Many teachers have integrated climate science and sustainability into their lesson plans. “My students are more engaged when they’re learning about something that’s happening right outside their classroom,” said a biology teacher.
24.What do we know about Ila Coleman?
A.She leaves sustainability behind.
B.She is an initiator of Green Grant.
C.She helped secure 1.2 million club fund.
D.She gathered proposals to the school board.
25.What is the main purpose of the Green Grant Club?
A.To advocate eco-awareness. B.To hold monthly workshops.
C.To partner with local groups. D.To reduce school running cost.
26.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Students adopt the habits to track energy use.
B.Teen activists are less keen about environment.
C.Scientists and educators think little of the movement.
D.Teachers find a new way to engage students in class.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Sustainability Always Goes First B.Solar Energy Bears Bright Prospects
C.Teens Push for School Green Retrofits D.Teens Join Hands for Sufficient Energy

We already know how watching other people’s lives on social media can negatively affect our self-esteem (自尊) and satisfaction with our own lives. Apparently, using apps to track your own calories or fitness activities can have a similar effect. New research from scientists at University College London (UCL) suggests that fitness apps can actually become major demotivators.
The researchers analyzed nearly 60,000 posts on the X platform. This data is particularly important because, unlike traditional surveys, people tend to share honest, unfiltered (直白真实的) opinions online. The posts included feedback on popular apps, such as MyFitnessPal. Around 13,000 posts contained negative keywords the researchers tracked — and over half mentioned the calorie-counting app MyFitnessPal.
At first glance, MyFitnessPal seems to offer everything you need to stay on top of your fitness and diet. It allows users to track calorie intake, monitor proteins, and set personalized goals. You can simply import recipes or scan bar codes (条形码) from food packages — the app will do the rest, offering you guidance on what and when to eat. Sounds like working with a personal dietitian.
However, many people are not so gratified about it. Senior author Dr. Paulina Bondaronek explained, “In these posts, we found a lot of blame and shame, with people feeling they were not doing as well as they should be. These emotional effects may end up harming people’s motivation and health.”
MyFitnessPal is also pretty easy to “fool”, since it’s up to users whether to log or skip a meal. This creates a false sense that if something isn’t recorded in the app, it “didn’t happen”. Many admitted cheating (e.g., not logging a post-dinner cup of ice cream) to feel better, but this only led to more guilt. In some cases, people quit the app and their healthy habits altogether.
It’s important to note the study only analyzed negative posts, so there’s no scientifically proven data on fitness apps’ benefits. Still, their harm is hard to pay no attention to. This is a clear wake-up call for developers to consider their products’ unintended results.
28.What do we know about MyFitnessPal?
A.It provides personal dietitian services. B.It monitors health through exercise data.
C.It records every meal without people’s help. D.It offers various and complete fitness support.
29.What does the underlined word “gratified” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Satisfied. B.Confused. C.Surprised. D.Worried.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards fitness apps?
A.Supportive. B.Objective. C.Certain. D.Indifferent.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.How to Choose Fitness Apps B.Social Media vs Fitness Apps
C.Fitness Apps: Unexpected Harms D.MyFitnessPal: A Perfect Fitness App
D
Muscle strength is crucial for physical health, especially for ageing populations. Muscle mass declines naturally with age, which in turn leads to a drop in muscle strength. As human lifespan extends, medical professionals pay growing attention to sarcopenia, a disorder marked by progressive weakness of muscle function. The condition typically grows more severe after 60, raising the odds of falls and bone injuries.
Skeletal muscle fibers, the basic unit that makes up the muscles of our body, fall into the category of voluntary muscle, regulated by conscious nerves, and cannot undergo cell (细胞) division. Therefore, they gain volume through combination, but will waste away considerably without regular exercise. Starting at age 30, individuals lose roughly 0.8 percent of muscle tissue annually, mainly resulting from inactivity and metabolic (新陈代谢的) variations.
While doctors use walking assessments and blood tests to check muscle health, you yourself can also watch out for warning signs. For example, if you spend more than 15 seconds sitting down and standing up from a chair five times, it may mean your muscle strength is declining, an early sign requiring your attention.
The good news is that strength training works well in improving muscle function and you can build muscle strength at any age, and even in your 80s and 90s. Strength training doesn’t necessarily require a costly gym membership; simple moves work well, such as “bridge” exercises — lying on your back and lifting your lower body, and push-ups for the upper body. Experts recommend committing 15 to 30 minutes most days, adding that mixing up exercises is key to sticking with it. As one doctor puts it, if you are awake for 16 hours, 30 minutes of exercise amounts to just 3% of your waking hours — a small investment for maintaining muscle strength.
32.What is sarcopenia?
A.An injury of the muscle mass. B.A condition of muscle decline.
C.A disorder of physical balance. D.A disease of the elders over 60.
33.What may be a reason behind the muscle loss according to the text?
A.Poor nervous regulation. B.Excessive strength training.
C.Insufficient physical activity. D.Regular muscle fiber division.
34.What does the example in Paragraph 3 imply?
A.Strength loss can be readily detected.
B.Doing regular sit-ups is beneficial.
C.People are likely to get weak over time.
D.Doctors judge health via routine motions.
35.What do the experts advise readers to do for muscle training?
A.Stick to one fixed style of workouts.
B.Take lengthy sessions in pricey gyms.
C.Perform basic postures during rest days.
D.Try combined brief fitness drills often.

Swimming is a great sport that builds up fitness and relieves daily stress. When it comes to competitive swimming races, excellent skills and good race strategies matter a lot. If you dream of swimming faster and winning matches, here are some practical suggestions.
36 Scientific breathing training runs through the whole preparation process. Proper breathing skills can help swimmers save physical energy in the water and avoid feeling out of breath easily. Stable breath control offers steady power support during long-distance swimming. 37
Apart from mastering breathing rules, standard stroke practice cannot be ignored. You need to correct your arm and leg movements repeatedly in daily training. 38 Gradually you will form good muscle memory and reduce unnecessary physical consumption. Standard moves also make your swimming posture more smooth and effective.
Getting familiar with the competition pool environment is also necessary. Different from ordinary leisure pools, competition pools have standard depth, fixed lane settings and special water flow. 39 Thus, you can adjust your swimming state and rhythm ahead of time.
In addition, you should learn to arrange physical strength reasonably in the race. Do not use up all your energy at the very beginning. Try to keep a steady speed and speed up properly in the final stage. Never be affected by the pace of other competitors easily. 40 Extreme tiredness will prevent you performing well and getting ideal rankings.
A.Mastering correct breathing skills comes first.
B.Most swimmers only focus on daily eating habits.
C.Practise standard strokes again and again in the pool.
D.This skill also helps you keep calm in fierce competitions.
E.More competitors will surely make you feel more nervous.
F.It is helpful to adapt to the pool environment before matches.
G.Making full use of rest time is also important for swimmers.

The highlight of the day, the 100-meter dash, had children in brilliant-colored T-shirts lining up, buzzing with enthusiasm. Among them was 10-year-old Victor, a thin and competitive boy, whose only aim was to win, at any cost.
However, Victor wasn’t the quickest runner in his class. Grace, a cheerful, kind-hearted and popular girl with lightning-fast legs had that title. Still, Victor remained determined. He had practiced hard for weeks, picturing the applause of the audience as he passed the finish line first. It would be his day today, he told himself.
The whistle blew, and the youngsters ran off like wild horses. As Victor ran, he caught sight of Grace pulling several steps ahead from the corner of his eye. His heart pounded with fear. He couldn’t miss. NOT AGAIN! Then Victor decided in a single second to do something he would soon regret. He turned suddenly and slightly to Grace’s side as they approached the last curve, which isolated (隔离) Grace. Grace tripped and fell.
Finally, Victor became the first to cross the finish line, and he got the applause he had been longing for.
However, Victor stayed awake that evening, unable to fall asleep. Grace’s tearful eyes kept playing in his head. He turned over, the medal shining on his bedside table in the moonlight. It felt more like a reminder of what he had done than like a prize now. The school was having a sportsmanship award ceremony the following day. Both Victor and Grace were invited to give a speech. He understood he didn’t deserve (值得) it. He was too guilty and scared to expect what would follow.
Then came the day. Mrs. White, the P.E. teacher, looked around and began her speech in a gentle but powerful voice, “Competition is not about who is strongest or fastest, but it’s about who exhibits the most sportsmanship...” Unexpectedly, Victor’s secret was not exposed. However, he didn’t feel relieved.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.D 27.C
根据第二段中的“Coleman and her classmates founded the “Green Grant (拨款)” club, researched energy-saving options, and presented a detailed proposal to the Portland Public Schools board.(科尔曼和她的同学们创立了“绿色拨款”社团,调研各类节能方案,并向波特兰公立学校董事会提交了一份详尽的提案。)”
根据第三段中的“We’re not just saving money — we’re teaching the school community about sustainability.(我们不只是在省钱——我们还向全校师生普及可持续发展相关知识。)”
根据最后一段中的“My students are more engaged when they’re learning about something that’s happening right outside their classroom.(当学生们学习就发生在教室门外的真实事件时,他们课堂参与积极性更高。)”
通读全文,尤其是首段中的“Teenagers, fed up with inaction on climate change, are leading a movement to retrofit (翻新) schools with eco-friendly upgrades.(受够了气候变化问题上的不作为的青少年,正引领一场运动,用环保升级改造翻新学校。)”
C
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.C
根据第三段中“At first glance, MyFitnessPal seems to offer everything you need to stay on top of your fitness and diet. It allows users to track calorie intake, monitor proteins, and set personalized goals. You can simply import recipes or scan bar codes (条形码) from food packages — the app will do the rest, offering you guidance on what and when to eat.(乍一看,MyFitnessPal似乎能全方位满足你健身与饮食管理的需求。它可以帮助用户记录卡路里摄入量、监测蛋白质摄入并制定个性化目标。你只需导入食谱或扫描食品包装上的条形码,剩余工作皆由软件完成,为你提供饮食种类和进食时间的指导。)”可知,这款APP提供多样、全面的健身饮食支持。
29.词句猜测题。根据第四段中“However, many people are not so gratified about it. Senior author Dr. Paulina Bondaronek explained, “In these posts, we found a lot of blame and shame, with people feeling they were not doing as well as they should be. These emotional effects may end up harming people’s motivation and health.”(然而,许多用户对此不gratified 。该研究资深作者保利娜・邦达罗内克博士解释道:“我们在这些评论中发现了大量自责与愧疚的情绪,用户普遍认为自己做得不够理想。这些负面情绪最终可能会削弱人们的自律动力,损害身心健康。”)”可知,人们对这款APP并不满意。gratified 意为“满意的”。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“It’s important to note the study only analyzed negative posts, so there’s no scientifically proven data on fitness apps’ benefits.(值得注意的是,该研究仅分析负面评论,暂无科学数据证实健身APP的益处。)”
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“New research from scientists at University College London (UCL) suggests that fitness apps can actually become major demotivators.(伦敦大学的新研究表明,健身APP实则会大幅打击人们的积极性。)”

【答案】32.B 33.C 34.A 35.D
根据第一段中“As human lifespan extends, medical professionals pay growing attention to sarcopenia, a disorder marked by progressive weakness of muscle function.(随着人类寿命的延长,医疗从业者正日益关注肌少症 —— 一种以肌肉功能进行性衰弱为特征的疾病)”可知,肌少症是一种肌肉衰退的病症。
根据第二段中“Starting at age 30, individuals lose roughly 0.8 percent of muscle tissue annually, mainly resulting from inactivity and metabolic (新陈代谢的) variations.(从30岁开始,个体每年约流失0.8%的肌肉组织,主要由缺乏活动和代谢变化导致)”可知,肌肉流失的一个原因是身体活动不足。
根据第三段中“For example, if you spend more than 15 seconds sitting down and standing up from a chair five times, it may mean your muscle strength is declining, an early sign requiring your attention.(例如,如果你连续五次从椅子上坐下站起耗时超过15秒,可能意味着肌肉力量正在下降,这是需要关注的早期信号)”可知,该例子暗示肌力衰退可通过简单动作被及时发现。
根据最后一段中“Experts recommend committing 15 to 30 minutes most days, adding that mixing up exercises is key to sticking with it.(专家建议大多数日子投入15至30分钟锻炼,并补充说混合多种运动方式是坚持锻炼的关键)”可知,专家提倡经常尝试组合式的短时健身练习。
【答案】36.A 37.D 38.C 39.F 40.G
后文“Scientific breathing training runs through the whole preparation process. Proper breathing skills can help swimmers save physical energy in the water and avoid feeling out of breath easily. Stable breath control offers steady power support during long-distance swimming.( 科学的呼吸训练贯穿整个准备过程。正确的呼吸技巧可以帮助游泳者在水中节省体力,避免容易感到气短。稳定的呼吸控制能在长距离游泳时提供稳定的动力支持。)”全程围绕“科学的呼吸训练”展开,介绍正确呼吸技巧的作用。A 项“Mastering correct breathing skills comes first.(掌握正确的呼吸技巧是首要的。)”
37.前文“Proper breathing skills can help swimmers save physical energy in the water and avoid feeling out of breath easily. Stable breath control offers steady power support during long-distance swimming.( 正确的呼吸技巧可以帮助游泳者在水中节省体力,避免容易感到气短。稳定的呼吸控制能在长距离游泳时提供持续的动力支持。)”分别介绍了呼吸技巧的两个作用:节省体力、为长距离游泳提供稳定动力。本空位于段尾,应继续补充呼吸技巧的益处。D项 “This skill also helps you keep calm in fierce competitions.(这项技能也能帮助你在激烈的比赛中保持冷静。)”
38.本段主题是标准划水练习,上文“You need to correct your arm and leg movements repeatedly in daily training.( 你需要在日常训练中反复纠正手臂和腿部的动作。)”指出日常训练中要反复纠正手臂、腿部动作,下文“Gradually you will form good muscle memory and reduce unnecessary physical consumption.( 渐渐地,你会形成良好的肌肉记忆,减少不必要的体力消耗。)” C 项“Practise standard strokes again and again in the pool.(在泳池里反复练习标准划水动作。)”
39.本段主题是熟悉比赛泳池环境,上文“Different from ordinary leisure pools, competition pools have standard depth, fixed lane settings and special water flow.( 与普通休闲泳池不同,竞技泳池具有标准的深度、固定的泳道布局以及特殊的水流设置。)”说明比赛泳池与休闲泳池的差异,下文“Thus, you can adjust your swimming state and rhythm ahead of time.( 因此,你可以提前调整自己的游泳状态和节奏。)” F项“It is helpful to adapt to the pool environment before matches.(赛前适应泳池环境是很有帮助的。)”
40.本段核心是比赛中合理分配体力,前文“Try to keep a steady speed and speed up properly in the final stage. Never be affected by the pace of other competitors easily.( 尽量保持稳定的速度,并在最后阶段适时加快。切忌轻易受其他选手节奏的影响。)”已经给出“不猛冲、保匀速、不被他人带节奏”等比赛中的体力管理建议,下文“Extreme tiredness will prevent you performing well and getting ideal rankings.( 过度疲劳会阻碍你的发挥,影响取得理想排名。)” G 项“Making full use of rest time is also important for swimmers.(充分利用休息时间对游泳者来说也很重要。)”

Make Our Breaks Active and Fun
Dear editors,
I’m Li Hua, writing to talk about our school’s long break activities. At present, the activities are limited to simple running, which makes most students lose interest and stay in classrooms instead of taking exercise. Low participation fails to relax us or build up our bodies.

Maplewood Elementary’s monthly Field Day was bright as the sun hung high overhead.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Now it was Victor’s turn and he decided to do what was right.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the ceremony, Grace found Victor and offered to train with him.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Now it was Victor’s turn and he decided to do what was right. Taking a deep breath, Victor gathered his courage and stepped onto the stage, trembling slightly. Hanging his head low to avoid the audience’s eyes, he honestly admitted what he had done to Grace. “I don’t deserve this.” Guilty tears welling up in his eyes, Victor took off his medal, held it out respectfully, and apologized sincerely to Grace for his unfair and unsportsmanlike behavior. There was a moment of dead silence. Then the whole room burst into applause. Half shocked and half disbelieving, Victor raised his head, and was greeted by everyone’s encouraging smile, including Grace. Grace smiled gently, and refused to take the medal, “Keep it as a reminder.”
After the ceremony, Grace found Victor and offered to train with him. Victor never expected Grace would make such an offer. He froze, unable to utter a word. Grace smiled warmly, “Maybe we can make progress together.” Deeply touched by her extraordinary generosity, Victor nodded his head repeatedly. From that day on, the two trained together every afternoon. Grace coached Victor on timing himself, and Victor coached Grace on how to maintain her balance. The following Field Day arrived. Victor made great progress, second to Grace. However, this time, he felt proud, because he finally understood true competition meant cooperation and mutual progress, and only by learning from each other could both sides achieve win-win growth.

Maplewood Elementary’s monthly Field Day was bright as the sun hung high overhead.

Now it was Victor’s turn and he decided to do what was right.
