Kevin loves reading mystery books. He likes trying to solve the mystery himself before he gets to the end. He also enjoys solving problems in his life.
One day, Kevin’s mom was busy looking for her glasses. She couldn’t drive without them. She needed to take Kevin to his friend’s house. For Kevin, this was a perfect mystery, and he really wanted to solve it.
Kevin sat down with her and asked, “Where did you last remember seeing your glasses?”
“I had them on while watching the news this morning,” she said.
“Where were you watching?” Kevin asked.
His mom thought and said she’d been in the family room, sitting in her favorite chair. She remembered taking off her glasses when the news ended and putting them on the table, but they weren’t there.
“Are you sure you didn’t put them on again later?” Kevin asked.
“Maybe I did,” his mom replied.
“Let’s walk through your day, Mom,” said Kevin.
He had her describe everything she’d done so far: watching the news, making breakfast, folding laundry, working in her home office, then gardening. It was after gardening that she started looking for her glasses.
Kevin went back the way his mother came, checking under the chair cushion, the kitchen, laundry basket, office, and garden, but no luck.
Kevin didn’t give up easily. He looked in each place again, even harder. He checked the kitchen again. This time, he found the glasses in the drawer with the silverware (餐具). “Thank you, Kevin,” she said. “I wouldn’t be able to see anything without you.”

Do you know Labubu? It is a funny-looking monster with big eyes, sharp teeth and messy hair. It always wants to help but often accidentally achieves the opposite.
Inspired (启发) by fairy tales and children’s wild imagination, artist Kasing Lung from Hong Kong, China, created such an elf-like (像精灵的) character in his book series The Monsters in 2015, bringing other monster characters to life as dolls.
Labubu became popular around the world in late 2024 and early 2025. Now it is not only a fictional character but also refers to the whole series, including different characters from its planet, such as Zimomo, Tycoco, and Mokoko. Some of these dolls look similar and are hard to tell apart, but collectors know the difference. The dolls are mainly sold in blind boxes, so you won’t know which one you’ll get, making it a surprise.
Both kids and adults have fallen in love with Labubu. In Tokyo, its creative designs inspire young artists. In Bangkok, it has become a symbol of cultural exchange. Across the ocean in New York, fans share their collections and artworks online actively. “Labubu reminds me of childhood creativity,” says one of the Labubu fans. “Now my friends and I even design our own monster characters!”
Labubu’s success shows how creativity connects people worldwide. Though the fun of opening blind boxes brings delight, it’s important to enjoy them wisely and avoid overspending or compulsive (强迫性的) collecting. After all, the real value lies in admiring the art, not just collecting.
32. What is the inspiration behind Labubu?
A. Modern art. B. Historical events.
C. Kids’ imagination. D. Science fiction movies.
33. Why is buying a Labubu doll described as “a surprise”?
A. Because the dolls are really well-made. B. Because the boxes of the dolls are different.
C. Because all dolls from the series are beautiful. D. Because buyers don’t know which doll is inside the box.
34. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A. The popularity of Labubu dolls. B. What Labubu looks like.
C. The challenges of getting a Labubu doll. D. The influence of Labubu on different cultures.
35. What does the underlined word “delight” mean in English?
A. Big trouble. B. Great pleasure. C. Careful planning. D. Quick buying.
D
“Museum fever” swept across China during the National Day holiday in 2025. More than 120 million people visited museums and cultural places. 35% of them were teens. AI and digital (数字的) tools have turned museums into interactive (互动式的) playgrounds. Here, young visitors can touch history and feel new ideas.
At Xi’an Museum, a digital art show called West Expo Treasures welcomed 82,000 young visitors in just 7 days. By waving a hand, they could make ancient bells ring and see a golden dragon “fly” out of the exhibits (展览) into their hands. Here, teens stayed for 47 minutes—twice as long as at normal exhibits. “It’s like time travel. Now I really understand why Tang Dynasty culture was so great,” said Li Jiawei, 15.
Learning through play is popular in many museums. At Shanghai Museum’s “Archaeology (考古) Palace”, 56,000 teens tried digging for fossils (化石) and used microscopes (显微镜) to look at old objects. Normally, each teen completed 3 VR repair tasks. 92% said they learned more than in history class. Yu Ruoxuan, a French-Chinese teen, said, “Fixing virtual vases makes history feel real which is different from the learning in books.”
In Hangzhou’s Huatan Village, college students helped build a VR museum. There, 28 local teens used AI to design 120 exhibits in Song Dynasty style. The museum got 3,000 visits in 5 days. “We used tech to share our village’s history with everyone!” said Chen Yu, a 16-year-old local boy.
This National Day showed that “museum fever” is a cultural awakening. Technology showed teens more than exhibits—it showed them a deep sense of cultural belonging and pride. Powered by these immersive (沉浸式的) experiences, Chinese youth are now ready to carry their culture into the future.
36. Why do museums become “interactive playgrounds” for teens?
A. They offer more exhibits. B. They use high-tech tools.
C. They put in more money. D. They provide more tasks.
37. What can we know from the underlined sentence?
A. Interactive exhibits are great fun for teens. B. Normal exhibits are not popular.
C. Teens really enjoy the time-travel exhibit. D. Teens want to fly the golden dragon.
38. If Li Hua is a history fan and likes hands-on activities, which museum can he go to?
A. Xi’an Museum B. Shanghai Museum
C. Huatan VR Museum D. A Digital Art Museum
39. How do the teens’ roles differ in Paragraphs 2-4?
A. learners→inventors→sharers B. listener→players→leaders
C. watchers→helpers→planners D. visitors→doers→designers
40. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Museum Fever on Holidays B. Tech Shapes Future Culture
C. Digital Museums Win Teens D. Teens Like Museums More
第二节 阅读表达 (共5题;每题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面文本,简略回答问题。
Notice from Sunshine Middle School
Dear students and teachers,
To make our lessons more fun, we’re going to start a new class about traditional art. We need your ideas! Do you agree to start the new class? If you do, please tell us which kinds of traditional art you’d like to learn in this class.
Please share your thoughts with your class teachers by Friday, November 8th.
Thank you for your cooperation.
This notice has started a lively discussion among students and teachers. Four of them shared their ideas:
Li Mei, a student
Wang Hao, a student
I think it’s a great idea to start a new class about traditional art and I’m really interested in Beijing Opera. Every time I watch a Beijing Opera performance, it feels like I’m going back to the old times. It’s a window into China’s rich history and culture.
My favorite traditional art form is shadow puppetry (皮影戏) . I think it would be a great choice for the new class because it can inspire (激发) our creativity and imagination. We can even learn to make our own shadow puppets and perform our own shows.
Chen Yu, a student
Mrs. Wei, a teacher
I’m not sure if a new traditional art class is a good idea. We already have lots of classes every day. I want to spend my free time doing what I love to do, such as dancing or reading books. Adding a new class would take that time away. I don’t want to feel more stressed with extra lessons.
Learning about traditional art is a great way for students to connect with our culture. Some students may worry about time, but we can make the class relaxing. Maybe we can have short, fun activities, like trying simple Beijing Opera movements (动作) or making easy shadow puppets, so it won’t feel like extra work.
41. When should students share their thoughts with their class teachers according to the notice?
_________________________
42. Who thinks differently from the others about the new class?
_________________________
43. Why does Wang Hao think shadow puppetry is a good choice for the new class?
_________________________
44. According to Mrs. Wei, how can the school make the new class relaxing?
_________________________
45. What do you think of the new class? Why do you think so?
