Are you full of emotions? Do you often have strong feelings? How do you deal with bad feelings?
We feel angry or unhappy about the mistakes we made or the things we didn’t achieve, about the things we cannot have, and many other things. It seems that everyone carries their own bad feelings. But neither unhappiness nor anger can help us. Over time, they can be heavy weights on our shoulders.
These bad feelings don’t do anything good for us at all. So you might ask yourself — is it possible to deal with them and give yourself a break? It is quite possible.
Start by learning about your feelings. How do they get inside of us? Why do we carry them for so long instead of putting them down? Can we live without them? By thinking about our bad feelings, we can find healthy ways to deal with them. There are many useful ways and forgiveness is one of them.
Forgiveness is a powerful tool. We should forgive ourselves first. We shouldn’t keep bad feelings inside. We must also forgive others who make us unhappy or angry. This is not always easy. But when we learn to forgive ourselves first, it will become easier to forgive others for sure.
There is nothing good about carrying years of emotional burdens (负担). By forgiving ourselves and others, we can put down our burdens and feel better about ourselves. When you do this, you will start to feel much lighter. Years of heaviness will magically disappear! You’ll start to feel like you have more energy and you’ll be much happier with your life.

When my children were younger, we used to walk a small path (小径) around the lake near our home.
One spring day, my daughter and I noticed just how much trash was lying along the path. So the next day we brought a big trash bag and two pairs of gloves with us and started to slowly, step by step, pick up the trash along the way. There were pop cans, plasticbottles, empty chip bags, pieces of broken fishing line and even an old shoe. We stopped and picked up each one and even fished a few pieces of trash out of the lake.
When we walked all the way around the lake, the trashbag was nearly full. We felt much too tired, but we also experienced a sense of achievement. After putting the bag in an empty trash bin, we stopped before we went back home and took one last look at the lake. The sun was setting and it looked more beautiful than ever.
I understand that the world’s problems can sometimes feel too big and you wonder what you can do to make a difference. But the truth is, everything you do makes a difference!
Picking up even one piece of trash helps the world. Sharing a smile brightens someone’s day. Saying kind words spreads happiness and kindness. Thinking kindly is powerful. Giving a hug can bring comfort and warmth. Planting a flower adds beauty. Saving an animal shows care.
No matter how small your actions are, they can make the world a better place.

Wonder is a touching novel written by R.J. Palacio, who was born in New York, the US. This is her first book and it has been popular with readers around the world.
It is about an unusual boy called Auggie. Born with a deformed (畸形的) face, he wears a special head cover every day so that people won’t see his face. When Auggie is 10 years old, his parents send him to school. On his first day, he shows his face to others for the first time. Kids laugh at and stay away from him, but he doesn’t let it set him back. Instead of being upset, Auggie becomes braver and studies harder. Finally he wins respect and shows people his determination (决心) and courage.
The book uses different characters’ views to tell the story, making it warm and lively. Its simple language and true feelings make it suitable for teenagers. It not only tells them that beauty is from inside, not from looks but also encourages them to be kind, respect differences and face life with courage.
“Wonder” is a title with a double meaning. One means “to feel curious about something”. The other has a similar meaning to “miracle (奇迹)”.

“What does it mean, Mom?” he asked.
“It means people can donate wigs (假发) to people who get sick. Those people may lose their hair because of taking the medicine.”
“Then I decide to grow out hair and donate it to those in need,” Christian said.
It surprised his mother a lot. But she knew he would hardly change his mind once he made a decision and he would really follow it. With his mom’s OK, Christian started growing out his blond hair.
However, as his hair grew longer, he looked different. Sometimes his classmates would laugh at him. “You look like a girl,” they said. His mother was used to hearing “Your daughter is so pretty” when she was out with Christian. At first, these words made Christian upset but his mother always tried to cheer him up. He knew his long hair meant something important, so he didn’t let those mean words trouble him too much.
After two and a half years, the big haircut day finally came. With his mother’s help, Christian cut his hair. And they sent it to the charity.
