Going green makes a big difference in our life. I’m Jessica Wong. Today I’ll tell you what my family does every day to save the earth. It’s reported that a common family produces more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of the waste takes hundreds of years to decay (腐烂). Also, it costs much money to buy new things to take the place of the things we throw away.
In order to protect the environment and save money, my family has recycled everything. We collect used things every day, such as paper, bottles and boxes, and put them into different bins. Then they are sent to a recycling center. Finally, they are treated and can be used again. Recycling will help reduce a lot of waste. Also, we use old clothes to make different kinds of bags. I especially like to use old jeans to make bags. These cute and useful bags are popular with young people. As a result, I open a small shop and set up a website to sell them online.
What’s more, my parents and my brother often go to work by bike. If it rains, they’ll take the bus. We’re also going to grow our own vegetables, raise cows and keep hens and ducks. Soon, we’ll be able to have eggs and milk for meals.

China is home to tea. As time goes by, the tea culture has developed greatly.
In the Tang Dynasty, people not only drank tea, but also ate tea leaves. That was why tasting tea was called “tea-eating”. In the Song Dynasty, the way people drank tea became romantic and was full of art. In the Ming Dynasty, tasting tea returned to its true nature of “drinking tea”. People put dry tea leaves in the cup and then poured boiled water into it before drinking. And in the Qing Dynasty, the tea culture finally came into common families. There were more tea houses.
Nowadays, making tea around a stove (围炉煮茶) has become popular among young people. Many young people like to choose a quiet and comfortable environment to make tea. Away from their busy work and life, they feel calm and peaceful in mind.
In fact, people began to make tea around a stove in ancient times. Traditionally, about the art of making tea, the most important part is the types of tea, water quality, the control of fire, the choices of tea tools, and the skills of brewing (沏茶).

In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts (主人) and the worst guests in the world. And Western hosts sometimes look impolite in the eyes of Chinese guests. It is because the guest-host relationship in China is quite different from that in some Western countries.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese friend’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the West, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to the host’s way of doing things is a usual behavior for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually, I want to stop them directly, but I realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not let me do that.
In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At least, you should ask, “Is it OK if I smoke?” But don’t be astonished if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.” In my culture, if you smoke in their house, you are a bad guest, but if they don’t allow you to smoke in their house, they are not impolite hosts.
In a word, no matter where you are, the best way to be a good guest is to adapt to (适应) the habits of your hosts.
66. How do Chinese hosts usually treat their guests?
A. They ask guests to follow their house rules.
B. They prepare fruit and drinks for guests.
C. They let guests help with housework.
D. They refuse guests’ requests directly.
67. What will the writer probably say if a guest wants to smoke in his house?
A. Let’s smoke together.
B. Sorry, you can’t smoke here.
C. Smoking is a bad habit.
D. It’s OK if you smoke here.
68. What does the underlined word “astonished” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Popular. B. Important. C. Surprised. D. Happy.
69. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. When a guest smokes, the writer’s wife feels unhappy.
B. The hosts are impolite if they don’t allow people to smoke in their house.
C. All over the world, guests are just like gods to the hosts.
D. Guests should act according to the host’s way of doing things in the West.
70. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Best Hosts and the Best Guests
B. Smoking Habits in China and America
C. The Secret to Being a Perfect Host
D. Different Guest-Host Relationships in Different Cultures

A new and exciting invention now allows deaf people to see conversations in real time. Using augmented reality (AR) glasses and a smartphone, deaf and hearing-impaired (听力受损的) people are also able to join in everyday conversations.
The AR glasses were developed by Scarfe after he had a big dinner with his family. The man saw his 97-year-old hearing-impaired grandfather sitting alone in silence while the rest of the family were talking excitedly. His grandfather always watched TV shows with subtitles (字幕). He suddenly realized that maybe the AR glasses could help.
Scarfe got to work with Nreal, an AR glasses maker. Six months later, a new pair of AR glasses came out.
The glasses have a thing that receives the audio (音频) from the environment and sends it to a connected smartphone. The phone then creates subtitles for that audio. By special programs, these subtitles then appear on the user’s glasses’ screen.
The company tested the glasses in the UK. The UK was chosen as a testing ground as over 12million adults in Britain have hearing problems. However, when the product goes to the whole world, it could change the lives of about 430 million people.

Dear friends,
The environmental problems are getting more and more serious nowadays. As students, we should do something to protect the environment.
First, it’s very important to save electricity. Don’t forget to turn off lights when we leave rooms. Second, we are supposed to reuse plastic bags and not to litter. Third, we’d better walk, ride a bike or take a bus when we go out. Last but not least, we need to plant more trees and flowers to make the environment more beautiful.
If we keep doing these things, I believe the environment will be better and better.
