On a summer morning in 2023, we went for a hike on the Bright Angel Trail (小径), one of the most popular trails in Grand Canyon National Park. As scholars of tourism, we found ourselves discussing a common question: Are the national parks overcrowded? Most people say yes, but we believe that answer is too simplistic. Although some specific locations within parks can get overcrowded, these people often wrongly assume that having other people around prevents them from enjoying the beauty of nature.
Hiking on the busy trail that morning, we noticed something uplifting. Two families, one hiking up, the other hiking down, were chatting and sharing insights at a bend. A young hiker shared her binoculars (双筒望远镜) with an elderly man, focusing them on a distant, rare desert bighorn sheep. Another hiker pointed out a California condor sailing above and others joined him in admiring the large bird.
Despite the number of people on the trail, we didn’t feel crowded. Rather, we felt a natural sense of community and togetherness — what anthropologist Victor Turner called “communitas.” Other researchers have also noted the value of experiencing national parks in the presence of others. Visitor surveys conducted in the Cleveland National Forest in summer 2025 show that the more people experience communitas, the less likely they’re to feel crowded.
Actually, each person has the power to shift how they react to the number of people around them in parks. For instance, when people see visitors as different from themselves, they’re more likely to feel crowded. But by recognizing that tendency and reframing the interaction, people are more likely to find communitas.
This summer, we urge you to enter America’s national parks with a different perspective. Experience the awe of watching Old Faithful erupt with hundreds of travelers in Yellowstone National Park. Find wonderment in sharing a sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park or sunset from Olmsted Point in Yosemite National Park. Most importantly, be the person who gives a neighboring camper that extra hot dog or takes photos for another family.
24. What do most people often think of traveling with others around?
A. Rewarding. B. Unpleasant. C. Avoidable. D. Simplistic.
25. What did the author notice that morning?
A. The popular trail was less busy. B. Most hikers preferred to travel alone.
C. All travelers were being helpful. D. Hikers interacted harmoniously.
26. How does the author support his own viewpoint in paragraph 3?
A. By quoting professional evidence. B. By sharing fellow travelers’ opinions.
C. By evaluating his tiring experiences. D. By arguing against Victor Turner’s insight.
27. What is the author’s advice in the last paragraph?
A. Enjoy adventures fully. B. Skip overcrowded trails.
C. Seek communitas in parks. D. Shift perspectives frequently.
【答案】24. B 25. D 26. A 27. C
【解析】

细节理解题。根据文章第一段中“Most people say yes, but we believe that answer is too simplistic. Although some specific locations within parks can get overcrowded, these people often wrongly assume that having other people around prevents them from enjoying the beauty of nature. (大多数人说是的,但我们认为这个答案过于简单化了。虽然公园内的一些特定地点可能会人满为患,但这些人常常错误地认为周围有人会妨碍他们欣赏自然之美)”可知,大多数人认为周围有人会妨碍欣赏自然之美,也就是觉得和别人一起旅行是不愉快的。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段中“Hiking on the busy trail that morning, we noticed something uplifting. Two families, one hiking up, the other hiking down, were chatting and sharing insights at a bend. Scientists have long known that microplastics are present in the atmosphere worldwide. These particles (颗粒) originate from direct sources such as tyre abrasion and textile fibers, as well as from previously polluted land and ocean surfaces that release particles back into the air. Earlier research often pointed to the ocean as the main contributor, but the findings of a new study from the University of Vienna challenge that assumption.
To better understand the problem, researchers Ioanna Evangelou, Silvia Bucci and Andreas Stohl collected 2,782 individual measurements of atmospheric microplastics from studies conducted around the world. They then compared these real-world observations with results from a transport model that combined three different published emission estimates.
The comparison revealed a major issue. The model consistently predicted far more microplastic particles in the air and deposited (沉积) on the Earth’s surface than were actually observed. This gap allowed the researchers to adjust the model and refine emission estimates separately for land and ocean sources, producing more accurate results.
After readjusting the data, the team found that emissions from land had been significantly overestimated in the earlier model, but even after correction, land remained the biggest contributor. Ocean emissions were also revised downward.
When asked where most airborne microplastics originate, Andreas Stohl explained, “The emission estimates show that over 20 times more microplastic particles are emitted on land than from the ocean.” At the same time, Ioanna Evangelou noted an important detail: The emitted mass was actually higher over the ocean than over land, which was due to the larger average size of oceanic particles.
“However, the data situation is still not satisfactory, and there are still major uncertainties. More measurements are needed so that we know how much microplastic comes from traffic and how much from other sources. The size distribution (分布) of the particles is also highly uncertain, and thus the total amount of plastic transported in the atmosphere,” summarized Andreas Stohl.
28. How did the researchers conduct the new study?
A. By interviewing publishers. B. By inventing various models.
C. By completing field trips. D. By making comparisons.
29. What is a finding of the new study?
A. The average size of oceanic particles is smaller.
B. Land is the dominant source of airborne microplastics.
C. The model perfectly matched real-world observations.
D. Plastic emissions from oceans prove insignificant.
30. What did Andreas Stohl mainly indicate about the new study in the end?
A. It turns out useless. B. It holds great value. C. It is far from perfect. D. It is very misleading.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Where Are Atmospheric Microplastics From? B. New Models Have Solved a Pollution Mystery
C. Is the Ocean the Main Source of Land Plastics? D. It’s Complex to Measure Microplastics in the Air
【答案】28. D 29. B 30. C 31. A

On 1 December last year, Oxford University Press announced “rage bait” as the Word of the Year for 2025. Public voting revealed a sharp rise in its usage, referring to provocative (煽动性的) online content including videos, posts, images and headlines designed to purposefully lead to anger and division in order to boost clicks and engagement. The primary goal is to use strong emotional reactions to drive interaction (clicks, comments, shares, views), a behaviour often rewarded by social media algorithms (算法) with greater visibility.
In an era when anyone can become an online star, content creators increasingly use extreme strategies like “rage bait” to capture attention. We’re constantly flooded with posts and videos on social media, which makes it harder to focus and think deeply. That’s why anger-driven content is so “effective” — it takes advantage of both human psychology and algorithmic logic.
Such content leads to the brain’s fight-or-flight response, pushing individuals into emotional reactions rather than careful thinking. Intense negative emotions like anger are highly engaging, causing users to comment and share impulsively. Meanwhile, platform algorithms boost this reactive engagement, prioritizing emotional responses over reflective thought. Content creators benefit from increased views, followers and even financial rewards.
However, repeated exposure to provocative content has serious mental health consequences, including chronic stress responses, emotional tiredness, and heightened anxiety and depression. For individuals already under psychological stress, the harm is greater. The shift from Oxford’s 2024 Word of the Year, “brain rot”, to 2025’s “rage bait” signals a systemic crisis driven by digital misuse.
Digital literacy and AI skills are essential for learning and employment today and in the future. However, effective technology use must be clearly distinguished from social media and gaming addiction. Moreover, technological advancement cannot replace the unique reflective benefits of deep reading.
So it’s necessary to intentionally slow down, pick up a book, practise mindful and disciplined technology use, and rediscover the ability to focus, reflect and find inner calm through deep reading and meaningful human connection. May future Oxford Words of the Year reflect not the disadvantages of digital excess (过度), but a revival of humanistic values and deep thinking.
32. Why is “rage bait” preferred by online content creators?
A. It prevents emotional responses. B. It promotes critical thinking.
C. It leads to higher exposure. D. It escapes detection by algorithms.
33. What does the underlined word “impulsively” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Involuntarily. B. Intentionally. C. Carefully. D. Occasionally.
34. What does paragraph 4 focus on?
A. Signs of digital addiction. B. Hidden causes of digital excess.
C. Consequences of reacting emotionally. D. Negative impacts caused by digital misuse.
35. Which of the following does the author agree with?
A. Avoiding playing popular games. B. Building lasting online relationships.
C. Replacing reading with practical skills. D. Developing the ability to think deeply.
【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍2025牛津年度词汇“rage bait”,阐述该类煽动性网络内容的运作逻辑、身心危害,呼吁人们理性使用网络、坚持深度思考。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The primary goal is to use strong emotional reactions to drive interaction (clicks, comments, shares, views), a behaviour often rewarded by social media algorithms (算法) with greater visibility.(其主要目的是利用强烈的情绪反应带动互动量(点击、评论、转发、浏览量),社交媒体算法通常会给予这类内容更高曝光度作为回馈。)”以及第二段中的“In an era when anyone can become an online star, content creators increasingly use extreme strategies like “rage bait” to capture attention.(在任何人都能成为网络明星的时代,内容创作者越来越多地使用诸如“rage bait”的极端策略来抓取注意力。)”可知,网络内容创作者偏爱rage bait是因为它会带来更高的曝光率。
【33题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“Such content leads to the brain’s fight-or-flight response, pushing individuals into emotional reactions rather than careful thinking. Intense negative emotions like anger are highly engaging, causing users to comment and share impulsively.(这类内容会触发大脑的应激反应,让人产生情绪化反应而非审慎思考。愤怒这类强烈负面情绪极具感染力,会让用户impulsively评论、转发。)”可知,煽动性内容使人丧失理性思考,下意识做出互动举动,由此可推出,impulsively冲动地、不由自主地,与“Involuntarily”意义相近。
【34题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段中的“However, repeated exposure to provocative content has serious mental health consequences, including chronic stress responses, emotional tiredness, and heightened anxiety and depression.(然而,反复接触煽动性内容会带来严重的心理健康后果,包括长期应激反应、情绪耗竭,以及加剧的焦虑与抑郁。)”以及“The shift from Oxford’s 2024 Word of the Year, “brain rot”, to 2025’s “rage bait” signals a systemic crisis driven by digital misuse.(从牛津词典2024年度词汇“brain rot”转向2025年度词汇“rage bait”,这一变化预示着由数字媒介滥用引发的系统性危机。)”可知,本段集中介绍滥用数字媒介带来的各类负面影响。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“So it’s necessary to intentionally slow down, pick up a book, practise mindful and disciplined technology use, and rediscover the ability to focus, reflect and find inner calm through deep reading and meaningful human connection.(因此我们要有意识放慢节奏、读书、自律使用电子产品,重新找回专注、反思的能力,通过深度阅读与真诚人际交往获得内心平静。)”

charm与the complex role为并列宾语,应使用并列连词and连接。故填and。

Sarah had always dreamed of climbing mountains, but living in the flat countryside, she had never had the opportunity. When her college announced a two-day mountain hiking trip during the weekend, she immediately signed up, despite having no experience.
The group of twelve students, led by their experienced guide Mike, set off early on a cold March morning. With professional outdoor equipment on him, including a small positioning device on his backpack, Mike led the way as they hiked through beautiful forests and crossed clear streams. Sarah felt confident and excited, taking countless photos of the stunning scenery.
On the second day, however, the weather took a sudden change. Dark clouds gathered quickly, and a heavy snowstorm hit with fierce winds, while the low temperature turned the wet ground into smooth ice everywhere. The visibility dropped to almost zero, and Mike made the difficult decision to find shelter and wait for the storm to pass.
They found a small cave where they stayed close together for warmth. Mike kept encouraging everyone to stay calm and strong, reminding them that they would overcome the difficulty as a team. The students cheered each other on, trying their best to stay hopeful. As hours passed, their food supplies ran low, and some students began to panic. Sarah noticed that Mike looked increasingly worried, constantly checking his GPS device and emergency radio.
Late in the afternoon, the storm finally began to die down. Mike gathered everyone and explained that they needed to go down the mountain immediately as another storm was approaching. However, the usual trail was now covered with deep snow and fallen trees, making it impassable.
“We’ll have to take the alternative route,” Mike announced, his voice tense. “It’s longer and more challenging, but it’s our only option. I’ve already sent a message to the base camp via the emergency radio to inform them of our situation and our new route, just in case we run into more trouble.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Starting down the unfamiliar path, Sarah found it much harder than expected.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just when Sarah thought she couldn’t go any further, she heard the sound of a helicopter overhead.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Starting down the unfamiliar path, Sarah found it much harder than expected. The cold wind blew hard against her face, making it hard for her to breathe, and her shoes slipped on the ice from time to time. The path was steep and slippery, covered with loose rocks and patches of ice. Her legs trembled with each step, and her backpack felt heavier than ever. Several times, she nearly lost her footing, grabbing onto branches and rocks to steady herself. The other students were struggling, too, and daylight was fading fast.
Just when Sarah thought she couldn’t go any further, she heard the sound of a helicopter overhead. Through the clearing clouds, she saw the rescue aircraft circling above them. Mike immediately turned on the emergency tool, and within minutes, the helicopter located their position. One by one, they were lifted to safety. As Sarah sat in the warm cabin, wrapped in a blanket, she reflected on the experience. Though terrifying, it taught her about her own resilience and the importance of teamwork. She knew this mountain adventure would forever change her perspective on challenges and her own capabilities.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
