What do you know about Mozi?
Activity 1
Know who Mozi was
3a Read an online post. Who does the writer admire? Why?
To me, one of the most inspiring people in Chinese history is Mozi (about 468-376 BCE). It is said that Mozi was a soldier, good at woodwork, and was the inventor of the kite. But in fact, above all, he was a great thinker.
Mozi lived during the Warring States Period. Back then, many kingdoms were fighting against each other. In these wars, the common people were always hurt. To Mozi, this had to stop, so he spent his life trying to bring peace.
His idea of love was one reason that Mozi wanted peace. It was important to him that everyone should show the same kindness and care to everyone else, whether they were family, friends, or strangers. He also believed states should avoid attacking one another.
Though Mozi lived more than 2,000 years ago, his ideas live on. I think he is still a great inspiration to many people. Now, more than ever, people around the world need to hear the message of peace and love, and work together to build a community of a shared future for mankind.

He believed in showing equal kindness and care to everyone—family, friends, or strangers.
He thought states should avoid attacking each other.
His ideas of peace and love remain inspiring today, especially for building a shared future for mankind.

3c Research a person in this unit or any other person that you find inspiring.
Make notes in a chart like the one above.
3d Use your notes to write a post about the person you find inspiring.
Sample
To me, one of the most inspiring people in Chinese history is Yue Fei (1103–1142). It is said that Yue Fei was a skilled general, a brave soldier, and a loyal patriot. But in fact, above all, he was a symbol of selfless devotion to one's country.
Yue Fei lived during the Southern Song Dynasty. Back then, northern invaders were constantly attacking and occupying Chinese lands. In these wars, countless innocent people were killed or displaced. To Yue Fei, this had to stop, so he spent his life fighting to recover lost territories and protect his people.
His idea of loyalty was one reason that Yue Fei fought so bravely. It was important to him that everyone should put the nation's interest above their own, whether in times of war or peace. He also believed that soldiers should never harm ordinary people and should always serve with honor and integrity.
Though Yue Fei died more than 900 years ago, his spirit lives on. I think he is still a great inspiration to many people. Now, more than ever, people around the world need to learn from his loyalty and dedication, and work together to protect peace and justice for all nations.
Activity 3
Make a wall of inspiration
4a
Brainstorm inspiring people you know of. Then do some research on each one and write down a simple introduction.
Here are some examples.
He Zehui
◎A brilliant physicist known as China’s Madame Curie
◎Dedicated her life to science and teaching young researchers
Mao Yisheng
◎A famous engineer known as "the father of modern bridges in China"
◎Shared his knowledge by teaching at universities and writing books
Galileo
◎An Italian mathematician, philosopher, and astronomer
◎Discovered that Earth moves around the sun
Huang Wenxiu
◎A young village leader who worked to fight poverty in the countryside
◎Believed that serving the people was the most important for a party member
4b Discuss what these inspiring people have in common.
List the qualities you all agree on.
Dedication to their work – Each devoted their life to their field (science, engineering, public service).
Service to others – They shared knowledge, taught young researchers, fought poverty, or sought truth that benefits humanity.
Selflessness – None worked merely for personal fame or wealth; they focused on a greater good.
Passion for learning/teaching – Mao Yisheng taught at universities and wrote books; He Zehui taught young researchers; Galileo pursued truth; Huang Wenxiu served villagers.
Courage to pursue their beliefs – Galileo stuck to the truth (Earth moves around the sun) despite opposition; Huang Wenxiu believed serving the people was most important.
Leaving a lasting legacy – They are still remembered and admired today as role models.
4c Work in your groups to choose a person you admire and make a poster.
4d Present your poster to the class. Put it on the wall of inspiration in your class or school hallway.
Tips
Introduce the topic – Briefly explain what your poster is about.
Highlight key points – Point out the main ideas, images, or data.
Explain your design choices – Why did you choose certain colors, layout, or headings?
Share what inspired you – Connect it to personal experiences, lessons, or research.
Invite questions – Encourage classmates to ask or share their thoughts.
