W: That truly sounds challenging. Looking back on your previous works, which one is your favorite?
M: I would say Voices of the Past. It tells a story about forgiveness. Another one I like is The Silent Shadows, which focuses on a woman struggling to be brave in the face of danger.
W: Lastly, what advice would you give to young filmmakers who want to follow in your footsteps?
M: Filmmaking is an art. My advice is to keep learning and experimenting. Stay true to your vision, but be open to what people say.

The upcoming winter season offers a selection of the finest, quickest, toughest and most delightful running events across the UK for those seeking adventure or community spirit.
●Bah Humbug 10K, 1 December
Do yourself a favour and bring towels and plastic bags with you, because every bit of gear you wear during this event is likely to be caked with mud by the end. Therefore, the organisers have done well to ensure there are changing rooms and showers available for all runners.
racebest. com
●Winter Solstice Strider, 8 December
Dig that head flashlight out of the messy drawer for this after-dark run or walk for a good cause. You have a 5K route, which winds through the forest at the St Ives Estate. The route is far from flat and will almost certainly be muddy in places, so make sure your batteries are well charged in case there are emergencies.
sueryder. org
●The Christmas Charity Run, 21 December
This event is run by a most environmentally conscious organiser in the country, and is therefore only open to local runners to reduce car travel. Another great feature is that £7. 50 of the £10 entry fee goes straight to a local charity that supports people with cancer, making this one of the most positive-impact events that you could possibly find.
eventrac. co. uk
●Mapledurham 10 & Half, 29 December
Mapledurham events are always well organised and, with unpleasant weather likely, you'll have to deal with some mud on the various uphills and downhills on whichever of the 10K, 10-mile or half-marathon courses you choose. The organisers have prioritised finding a good route over precise measurements, so all three races have a rather loose relationship with their stated distance.

Marion Sheppard felt sorry for herself when she began to lose her sight in her 40s. Since childhood, Sheppard had always been a keen dancer. But now she rarely left her Bronx apartment. She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?”
After several months of grief and fear, Sheppard resolved to keep moving. Hard as it was, Sheppard forced herself to go out. She attended a social event for people with visual problems, and was shocked to find that not only did no one dance, but they barely moved. “Oh no!” she told herself. “That is not the way I want to live!” She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. Sheppard continued to work at her library job at The New York Times until her vision worsened in her 50s. And she kept moving and dancing. Sheppard was 61 when she attended a summer camp for the blind in 2008, where she taught her first line dancing class.
After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. Still, she persisted, and soon convinced the administrators to let her teach line dancing on a volunteer basis. Her classes proved to be so popular that in 2012, Visions hired her to be on staff. Sheppard was excited.
She was teaching over a dozen students dance steps. But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves.
24. Why was Sheppard unwilling to leave her apartment?
A. She had a lot of housework to do.
B. She had to attend her son at home.
C. She was afraid of being looked down upon.
D. She was worried about getting involved in accidents.
25. How did Sheppard feel about her walking stick?
A. She was often greatly embarrassed by it.
B. She regarded it as a temporary necessity.
C. She treated it simply as an ordinary tool.
D. She valued it as something special.
26. Why did the community center refuse Sheppard’s request at first?
A. They didn’t have enough space for dance classes.
B. They were concerned about the students’ safety.
C. They didn’t believe Sheppard could teach well.
D. They thought dancing wasn’t suitable for blind people.
27. What did Sheppard’s students learn from her?
A. Humor and patience. B. Intelligence and honesty.
C. Imagination and creativity. D. Self-respect and self-reliance.
C 25. D 26. B 27. D
根据第一段中“She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?” (她担心自己看不见陌生人走近,会在街上被撞倒。事实上,大多数时候,她更担心自己在世人眼中的样子。她总是在想:“如果人们用不同的眼光看我,用不同的方式对待我,该怎么办呢?”)”可知,Sheppard不愿离开公寓,主要是因为担心别人用异样的眼光看待她、区别对待她,即害怕被轻视。故选C项。
25.推理判断题。根据第二段中“She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. (她买了一根拐杖,给它取名叫Tyreek,这是她一直打算如果自己有儿子的话,给儿子取的名字。)”可知,Sheppard给拐杖起了一个原本计划给儿子的名字,这体现出她将拐杖视为特殊的存在,而非普通工具。故选D项。
26.细节理解题。根据第三段中“After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. (之后,她询问了由Visions运营的曼哈顿社区中心是否可以在那里教课,但她被告知不行,因为对学生来说太危险了。)”可知,社区中心最初拒绝Sheppard的请求是因为他们担心学生的安全。故选B项。
27.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves. (但Sheppard教给她的学生们的远不止这些。通过不断的鼓励,她还让尊严和独立在学生们心中扎根。在她的课堂上,学生们可以真正做自己。)”可知,Sheppard的学生从她那里学到了自尊和自立。故选D项。

New research suggests that pandas may be at risk of extinction because they are too comfortable. Experts say too much happiness can stop the pandas from searching for new mates.
Environmentalists have long believed that human activities like road or house construction threaten pandas by fragmenting(分裂) their natural habitats. But the new research suggests that a “modest degree of discomfort and fragmentation” may actually help preserve panda populations.
The research, published in Conservation Biology, was conducted by scientists from Michigan State University. It concluded that pandas fail to wander off in search of new mates if they find their habitat too comfortable, resulting in a lack of vital genetic diversity. The ideal level of perfectly livable habitat was found to be only 80% of an area, with the remainder either too harsh or too affected by human activity.
The experts concluded that pandas should ideally “be happy enough to thrive(蓬勃发展), but not so content that they don’t want to move around and find new mates”. This “sweet spot”, described by The Guardian, is in line with the Goldilocks principle: there can be just the right amount of something. Claudio Sillero, a professor of conservation biology at Oxford University, told the newspaper that the significance of this new discovery may extend beyond panda conservation.
“Most large animals that eat meat live in increasingly fragmented landscapes”, said Sillero, who was not involved in the research. “It may well be that the messy nature of their relationship with human efforts makes more animals scatter or travel further, and might result in greater genetic connectivity and enhanced population persistence.”
The latest count of pandas found that there were more than 1,800 left in the wild, putting them among vulnerable, but not endangered, species.
28. What do we learn from the new research about pandas?
A. They are losing habitat due to the building of roads and houses.
B. They have stopped seeking new mates for reproduction.
C. They may not adapt to the fragmentation of their habitat.
D. They may stop existing as a result of enjoying too good a life.
29. What can we conclude from Michigan State University’s new research?
A. The previous belief regarding panda conservation may be incorrect.
B. Housing development near pandas’ homes may threaten their survival.
C. Pandas’ natural habitats are becoming less suitable for reproduction.
D. The increased panda population is due to the fragmentation of their habitat.
30. What is the experts’ conclusion regarding pandas?
A. It is urgent to provide an ideal habitat for them to thrive.
B. It is very important to preserve their genetic diversity.
C. Their chances of finding new mates have a lot to do with their habitat.
D. Their environment for survival has been continuously worsening.
31. What can the new findings do according to Professor Sillero?
A. Benefit pandas and help enlarge their population.
B. Help remove pandas from the list of endangered species.
C. Cast light on the conservation of most large meat-eating animals.
D. Show the complexity of interactions between humans and animals.
D 29. A 30. C 31. C
根据第一段中的“New research suggests that pandas may be at risk of extinction because they are too comfortable.(新研究表明,熊猫可能因为太过安逸而面临灭绝风险。)”以及第二段“Environmentalists have long believed that human activities like road or house construction threaten pandas by fragmenting (分裂) their natural habitats. But the new research suggests that a “modest degree of discomfort and fragmentation” may actually help preserve panda populations.(环保主义者长期以来一直认为,人类活动,如道路或房屋建设,会破坏大熊猫的自然栖息地,从而威胁到它们。但这项新的研究表明,‘适度的不适和碎片化’实际上可能有助于保护大熊猫种群。)”可知,从这项关于大熊猫的新研究可以得知,熊猫生活得太好反而可能导致灭绝。故选D。
29.推理判断题。根据第二段“Environmentalists have long believed that human activities like road or house construction threaten pandas by fragmenting (分裂) their natural habitats. But the new research suggests that a “modest degree of discomfort and fragmentation” may actually help preserve panda populations.(环保主义者长期以来一直认为,人类活动,如道路或房屋建设,会破坏大熊猫的自然栖息地,从而威胁到它们。但这项新的研究表明,‘适度的不适和碎片化’实际上可能有助于保护大熊猫种群。)”可知,新研究对之前的传统观念提出了挑战,说明之前关于保护大熊猫的那些看法可能并不正确。故选A。
根据第四段中的“The experts concluded that pandas should ideally ‘be happy enough to thrive, but not so content that they don’t want to move around and find new mates’.(专家总结说,理想情况下,熊猫应该‘快乐到能够繁衍,但又不能太满足以至于不想四处走动寻找新伴侣’。)”以及第三段中的“It concluded that pandas fail to wander off in search of new mates if they find their habitat too comfortable, resulting in a lack of vital genetic diversity. (研究得出结论:如果大熊猫的栖息地过于舒适,它们就不会外出寻找新的配偶,这会导致重要的基因多样性缺失。)”可知,研究得出结论:若熊猫发现栖息地过于舒适,它们就不会迁徙寻找新配偶,从而导致关键的遗传多样性缺失。这说明专家认为熊猫寻找新配偶的机会与栖息地舒适度密切相关。故选C。
31.推理判断题。根据第二段中“But the new research suggests that a “modest degree of discomfort and fragmentation” may actually help preserve panda populations.(但新的研究表明,“适度的不适和碎片化”实际上可能有助于保护大熊猫种群。)”、第四段中的“Claudio Sillero, a professor of conservation biology at Oxford University, told the newspaper that the significance of this new discovery may extend beyond panda conservation.(牛津大学的保护生物学教授克劳迪奥·西勒罗(Claudio Sillero)在接受该报采访时表示,这一新发现的重要意义可能不仅限于大熊猫的保护工作。)”以及第五段中““Most large animals that eat meat live in increasingly fragmented landscapes”, said Sillero, who was not involved in the research. “It may well be that the messy nature of their relationship with human efforts makes more animals scatter or travel further, and might result in greater genetic connectivity and enhanced population persistence.”(“大多数以肉食为食的大型动物都生活在日益破碎化的环境中。”没有参与这项研究的Sillero说:“或许正是由于它们与人类活动关系的复杂性,使得更多动物四处分散或迁徙更远,从而可能带来更强的基因交流以及更稳固的种群存续。”)”可知,Claudio Sillero认为这项新发现的影响范围不止在熊猫保护领域,这一发现能为生活在日益破碎化的环境中的大多数大型食肉动物的保护提供启示。故选C。
D
The term “parasocial interaction”(虚拟社交) was first used in the 1950s by the social scientists Donald Horton and R. Richard Wohl. At that time, home televisions were new, and the two researchers noticed something interesting: people were forming strong connections with actors they only saw on TV. Today, this idea has expanded. With social media, streaming platforms, and online videos, we can “meet” actors, singers, athletes, and other celebrities in more ways than ever. Building these one-sided relationships — where we feel close to someone who doesn’t know us — has never been easier.
Psychologists have studied cases where these connections go too far, leading to problems. These relationships can start as casual — like chatting about a star’s latest post — but sometimes grow into strong emotions, wild fantasies, or even harmful behaviors. For example, some fans lose touch with reality and stalk celebrities. Teens are especially at risk: when they model themselves after their “virtual friends” — copying their styles or hobbies — it might confuse them about who they really are, since teenagers are still figuring out their own identities.
In 2021, Canadian psychologists found a link between these one-sided bonds and “avoidant attachment” — a tendency to avoid close relationships in real life. People who often feel uncomfortable with others may turn to fictional characters as substitutes. This creates a loop: avoiding real connections makes them seek comfort in virtual ones, which then makes them interact less with family and friends. They spend time liking posts or watching videos of someone who doesn’t even know they exist, pushing aside real relationships that need their attention.
This doesn’t mean virtual interactions are bad. Many people enjoy following celebrities casually without any harm. But if you find yourself spending hours thinking about fictional people and neglecting real-life connections, it might be a sign to step back. Taking a break from these “one-sided friends” can help address this, letting you open up to real relationships that bring true warmth and support.
32. How has parasocial interaction changed according to Paragraph 1?
A. It has become more accessible. B. It has affected more celebrities.
C. It has lost much of its significance. D. It has turned into a two-way process.
33. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. Reasons behind celebrity following. B. Origins of dangerous relationships.
C. Different types of parasocial relationships. D. Potential harm of parasocial relationships.
34. What does the underlined word “loop” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. A perfect combination. B. A workable solution.
C. A disastrous consequence. D. A repetitive cycle.
35. What might the author suggest for those with heavy parasocial relationships?
A. Meeting fictional friends in real life. B. Hanging out more with real friends.
C. Seeking guidance from professionals. D. Creating more space for being alone.
A 33. D 34. D 35. B
根据第一段中“With social media, streaming platforms, and online videos, we can “meet” actors, singers, athletes, and other celebrities in more ways than ever. Building these one-sided relationships — where we feel close to someone who doesn’t know us — has never been easier. (有了社交媒体、流媒体平台和在线视频,我们可以以比以往更多的方式“遇到”演员、歌手、运动员和其他名人。建立这种单方面的关系——我们对不了解我们的人感到亲近——从来没有这么容易过。)”可知,虚拟社交变得更容易实现。故选A项。
根据第二段中“These relationships can start as casual — like chatting about a star’s latest post — but sometimes grow into strong emotions, wild fantasies, or even harmful behaviors. For example, some fans lose touch with reality and stalk celebrities. Teens are especially at risk: when they model themselves after their “virtual friends” — copying their styles or hobbies — it might confuse them about who they really are, since teenagers are still figuring out their own identities. (这些关系可以从随意开始——比如聊明星的最新帖子——但有时会发展成强烈的情感、疯狂的幻想,甚至有害的行为。例如,一些粉丝与现实脱节,跟踪名人。青少年尤其危险:当他们模仿他们的“虚拟朋友”——模仿他们的风格或爱好——这可能会让他们搞不清自己到底是谁,因为青少年还在寻找自己的身份。)”可知,该段聚焦虚拟关系的潜在危害。故选D项。
34.词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“avoiding real connections makes them seek comfort in virtual ones, which then makes them interact less with family and friends. They spend time liking posts or watching videos of someone who doesn’t even know they exist, pushing aside real relationships that need their attention. (避免真实的联系会让他们在虚拟世界中寻求安慰,而这又会减少他们与家人和朋友的互动。他们把时间花在点赞或观看那些甚至不知道他们存在的人的帖子或视频上,把需要他们关注的真实关系放在一边。)”可知,这部分人群逃避现实关系,寻求虚拟慰藉,又反过来进一步减少现实互动,这形成了一个反复循环的模式,画线词意为“重复的循环”。故选D项。

How to Overcome the Harmful Habit of Judging
Ah, punctuality — the art of being precisely on time. It’s a concept so deeply rooted in some cultures that even being a minute late can cause a small-scale panic attack. ____36____ Let’s examine whether punctuality is the defining feature of a superior society or merely another subjective construct.
Each part of the world has a unique relationship with time, enriching the fabric of global culture. In Japan, for example, you’re always expected to arrive on time, and preferably a few minutes early.
____37____ Tough luck, but the next one will be there precisely on the dot. In contrast, the Philippines has a more relaxed approach to time. If someone says 3 o’clock, arriving around 3:30 is common and expected. This isn’t laziness, but a cultural preference for living in the moment.
But does being punctual make a culture more advanced? The Swiss are celebrated for their precision and punctuality, often cited as a perfect example of efficiency. Their trains run on time, their watches are the gold standard. ____38____ And Switzerland is often ranked as one of the most developed and happiest countries in the world, but let’s wait a bit to conclude.
Consider the case of Brazil, where “Brazilian time” is a well-known concept. ____39____ If you attend a party at the specified time, you’ll likely find the host still in their bathrobe. Many Brazilians have a laid-back approach to life. They don’t sweat the small stuff like running five minutes late because they’re busy enjoying life. Many live by the motto, “Tudo bem,” which means “It’s all good.” Honestly, they seem to be onto something.
So, is punctuality essential? It depends on what cultures you are in. Whether you’re a stickler for punctuality or more laid-back, what truly matters is how you spend your time. ____40____ Let’s try to find that middle ground where we can respect others’ time while embracing the joy of living in the moment. Ultimately, time is just a construct, and life is too short to stress about being late.
A. Miss a train by a minute?
B. Punctuality is timeless art.
C. But is punctuality essential?
D. In this context, punctuality is flexible.
E. You could set your clock by their daily routines.
F. There, being late is not only accepted but expected.
G. Are you enjoying the journey or constantly watching the clock?
C 37. A 38. E 39. F 40. G
36.上文“It’s a concept so deeply rooted in some cultures that even being a minute late can cause a small-scale panic attack.(守时这一概念在某些文化中根深蒂固,以至于哪怕迟到一分钟都可能引发一场小规模的恐慌)”强调了守时在部分文化中的重要性。
37.上文“In Japan, for example, you’re always expected to arrive on time, and preferably a few minutes early.(例如,在日本,人们总是被要求准时到达,最好还能提前几分钟)”说明了日本对守时的严格要求。空后“Tough luck, but the next one will be there precisely on the dot.(运气不好,但下一班列车会准点到达)”提到了“下一班列车”,可推断空处与“错过列车”相关。 故选A。
38.上文“The Swiss are celebrated for their precision and punctuality, often cited as a perfect example of efficiency. Their trains run on time, their watches are the gold standard.(瑞士人以其精准和守时而闻名,常被奉为效率的完美典范。他们的列车准点运行,手表是业界标杆)”详细描述了瑞士人的守时和精准。空处需要进一步补充瑞士人守时的表现,与前文为顺接补充关系。E项“你可以根据他们的日常作息来校准时钟。”形象地体现了瑞士人作息的规律性和守时性,是对前文“精准和守时”的进一步说明,符合语境。故选E。
39.上文“Consider the case of Brazil, where “Brazilian time” is a well-known concept.(以巴西为例,“巴西时间”是一个众所周知的概念)”引出巴西的时间观念。空后“If you attend a party at the specified time, you’ll likely find the host still in their bathrobe.(如果你按指定时间参加派对,很可能会发现主人还穿着浴袍)”说明巴西人对迟到的包容。
40.上文“Whether you’re a stickler for punctuality or more laid-back, what truly matters is how you spend your time.(无论你是严守守时的人还是更随性的人,真正重要的是你如何度过时间)”强调“如何度过时间”比“是否守时”更重要。

It was early autumn when the school organized a weekend camping trip to a nearby mountain forest. The air was crisp, the leaves were turning golden, and the students were buzzing with excitement. After weeks of studying and exams, everyone welcomed the chance to enjoy nature and relax outdoors.
Among the students were four close friends: Leo, Eric, Jason, and Alice. Though their personalities were quite different, they made a great team. Alice, the only girl in the group, was smart and well-prepared. She had brought along a compass, a map, and even a first-aid kit.
After arriving at the campsite, the students pitched their tents, gathered firewood, and helped prepare a simple meal. The campsite was surrounded by tall pine trees, and in the distance, a mountain stream could be heard. The teachers reminded everyone to stay within the marked area and never go off-trail alone.
After lunch, the students were allowed to explore in small groups. Leo’s group decided to follow a trail leading up a hill. According to Alice, there was a small lookout point that offered a beautiful view of the valley.
As they walked, Jason kept running ahead, calling the others to hurry. “Let’s see what’s up there!” he shouted. Alice followed closely behind, holding the map. Leo walked at a steady pace, checking that no one fell behind. Eric lagged at the end, clearly nervous about being so deep in the forest.
The path became narrower as they climbed. Birds chirped in the trees, and dry leaves crunched under their shoes. The sunlight filtered through the branches above, casting dancing shadows on the ground. After about an hour, they reached the edge of a rocky area covered in leaves. The trail began to twist more than expected, and many landmarks they passed didn’t match what was on the map.
“I think the viewpoint is just beyond this slope (斜坡),” Jason said, pointing excitedly.
Leo looked uncertain. “Let’s be careful. It looks slippery.”
But before anyone could stop him, Jason had already climbed ahead.
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

Just as he reached the top of the slope, his foot slipped. Jason lost his balance and fell down the rocky slope, rolling over and over until he finally came to a stop at the bottom. The others gasped in horror. Alice quickly rushed down to him, checking for injuries. “Jason, are you okay?” she asked, her voice trembling. Leo and Eric followed closely behind, their faces pale with worry. Fortunately, Jason seemed to have only suffered a few scrapes and bruises, but he was clearly in pain and couldn’t stand up on his own.
With the first aid finished, they realized a new challenge: how to get back. The slope was too steep and slippery for Jason to climb up alone. “We need to find a safer way,” Leo said, looking around. They noticed a narrow path that seemed to lead back to the main trail, which was a relief. Eric volunteered to stay with Jason while Alice and Leo went ahead to explore the path. “Don’t worry,” Alice reassured Jason, “we’ll come back for you soon.” After what seemed like ages, they returned and guided everyone safely back to the campsite, where the teachers were waiting anxiously.

21. Which website offers information for night run participants?
A. sueryder. org B. racebest. com
C. eventrac. co. uk D. mstevents. co. uk

注意:
Just as he reached the top of the slope, his foot slipped.

A. sueryder. org B. racebest. com
C. eventrac. co. uk D. mstevents. co. uk
