An Olympic Swimmer Who Nearly Drowned
You may have never heard of Eric Moussambani, the first Olympic swimmer from Equatorial Guinea. Eric swam in the 100-metre freestyle at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. However, he had only begun swimming six months before the Games! The only pool he could use was a hotel pool about 13 metres long, and he could only use it for an hour every morning. His coach was not even a real swimming coach—he just read about swimming in books.
When Eric arrived in Sydney, he had never seen a 50-metre pool before. In the first round, Eric swam alone because the other two swimmers were disqualified for false starts. The whole crowd watched him. At first, Eric swam well, but in the second half of the race, he was clearly struggling. He almost stopped. But the crowd began cheering loudly. Neither the pain nor the fear stopped him. He kept going and finally finished in 1 minute 52.72 seconds—the slowest time in Olympic history.
Eric did not win a medal, but he won the hearts of people around the world. His story tells us something important: the Olympic spirit is not just about winning. It is about having the courage to try, the strength to keep going, and the pride of finishing what you started.

答案:11. came — 一般过去时(after World War II 提示过去)

The Games + in 1960 → were held
答案:15. has grown — 现在完成时:Since then 提示
答案:17. has — each of them → 单数 has。each of 陷阱!
答案:18. but — 盲填·转折连词:visually impaired(视力障碍) + won gold medals → but
答案:21. are — both...and → 复数 + 一般现在 → are
答案:22. is — motto(单) → is
答案:23. shows — 一般现在时:It(单) → shows
not just about winning
短文填空 Q13/Q18/Q19 为盲填(and/but/nor),对标河北中考盲填部分。Q17 each of them→has 是本单元最高频陷阱,和第1题呼应——如果学生还错,each of 这个点就是没吃透。Q20 neither...nor 后谓语用 stopped(过去时统一),不考单复数最近原则因为doubts(复)和disability(单)对过去时不敏感,重点在语意。

A: Hi, Li Hua! Did you watch the school sports meet yesterday?
B: Yes, I did! 26.________________________________
