A Great Time with my Family
Last Saturday, my family went to the countryside for a picnic.
Dad drove us there early. Mom prepared sandwiches and fruit. I helped lay out the blanket on the grass. We shared the food, chatted about our week, and played football. I ran around with my little brother, and we tried to follow a butterfly. When the sun went down, we took a walk by the small river.
That day, I felt so relaxed and happy. Being with my family is always the best part of my life.

文章第一段提到“Although they can buy snacks from stores”,此处是在对比过去,当时人们不常去“买”现成的食品。
learning about“了解”、putting down“放下”和taking on“承担”不符合此处略带惋惜的句意。
the whole life意为“一生,一辈子”,life“生活,生命”符合语境。
根据前置状语“although Berto had never made pancakes before”以及后文的“this time”可知,他受到奶奶故事的感染,亲手“尝试”去做。
文章开篇第一句即为“Every Sunday is a special time…”,因此一家人共度的这顿饭也是“特殊的”。

Last Sunday was gray and cold. I walked into the kitchen and saw Mum standing by the wall, hand on her head. “I have a cold (感冒),” she said. I held (握住) her hand. “Don’t worry, I’ll do everything today!”
First, I cut the pumpkin (南瓜) and put it in a pot with rice to make Mum’s favourite pumpkin porridge. When it was ready, I took it to my mum. “It tastes like love,” Mum said. My face felt warm.
After breakfast, I found the living room was messy—toys everywhere, Dad’s newspapers on the sofa and litter under the table. I put toys in a basket. Then I mopped the floor. Mopping the floor made my arms tired, but I danced to my song, moving the mop back and forth.
By noon, my legs were heavy, but the house smelled nice, and sunlight filled tidy rooms. I washed the breakfast dishes, singing happily.
Dad came home in the evening. He praised (表扬) me, “Our little superhero!” Mum, sitting up, touched my red face. “You really did a great job.”
That night, as I set the table—a new habit now—I knew housework isn’t just housework. It’s like glue that holds our family close. Every tidy table, clean floor and warm bowl of porridge says, “I love you.” That’s the best work of all.

Do you like doing chores? What do you think of doing chores? A new study shows that it can make you smarter.
The study was done by a team at a university in Australia. More than 200 parents and kids aged between 5 and 13 joined in it. Parents answered how many chores their kids did each day and if the kids actually finished each job.
Tepper led the study. It showed that doing chores like cooking or cleaning was especially helpful to young people. “Kids who often cook meals or do the cleaning can do other things well, like problem-solving,” said Tepper. It also showed that self-care chores and family-care chores could greatly improve kids’ ability to think before acting. According to the study, 70% of the girls made their own beds compared to 50% of the boys. However, 66% of the boys took out the rubbish and only 43% of the girls did.
Tepper and her team were happy with what they had learned. “We were really excited,” she said. At the same time, Tepper pointed out (指出) that chores sometimes seemed boring to kids, so parents should pick those that their kids enjoyed.
