At a summer camp, while you may have a long list of things to do during the day, you also need some evening activities.
Night Hikes
Night hikes are a fun evening activity for summer campers, especially older ones. Take a guided night hike, allowing yourself to experience nature in a different setting. Make sure that you wear appropriate clothes and always follow appointed paths. Plan the hike to ensure that you can return safely before it gets too late in the evening.
Movie Nights
Set up a screen and projector outdoors, and have a movie night under the stars. Prepare blankets, popcorn, and a comfortable spot for yourself to spread out and get comfortable. You should also consider other forms of seating, including chairs and picnic tables. It's also a good idea to check the forecast. If there is rain, have alternative indoor summer camp activities.
Campfire Stories
Gather around a campfire for storytelling. The goal is to entertain and help campers bond. Select stories that suit the age and interests of your audience. You can also share experiences and horror stories. However, speaking aloud around the campfire is sometimes a struggle. Prepare some familiar stories in advance.
Campfire Rhythms
Instead of stories, you may prefer campfire rhythms. Bring out the guitars, drums, and other instruments for a beautiful evening. You can perform traditional camp songs or learn something new for the evening. The easiest option is to select a variety of songs that cater to all ages and musical tastes.

My husband made a little twostory house that mirrored our own in color and design for our Little Free Library, while I carefully selected books from our shelves. The idea resonated (引起共鸣) with us immediately-instead of selling the books we didn't want to read, we could simply walk them to the roadside.
Fifteen or so years later, it's safe to say that thousands of books, as well as the occasional DVDs, CDs and jigsaw puzzles have been shared through our little library. Situated on a busy street just a few blocks from a subway station, our little library sees dozens, perhaps hundreds, of passersby each day.
Many of those who use our library do not hesitate to share their love of this neighborhood resource. One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby retirement home. At other times, we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and even a personalized drawing from a local artist.
Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go reflect the broad diversity of our city. Books in Arabic, French, and Russian are commonly found alongside the dominant (占主导地位的) English language books. I've even collected favorite books of mine in languages I don't understand, simply for the joy of adding another edition to my collection. Surprisingly, our library hasn't dealt with our book storage problem-if anything, we now have more books than ever before.
I have heard some complaints that Little Free Libraries do not always serve the purpose of building community and may compete with our public_libraries and independent bookstores. This has not been our experience. We continue to buy more books than we need and we are fiercely loyal users of the public system. Our Little Free Library has raised our love of reading and has connected us to a community of book lovers in the heart of our busy neighborhood.
4.Why did the author and her husband create the Little Free Library?
A.To make friends with book lovers.
B.To deal with their unwanted books.

A.The various resources of the library.
B.People's contributions to the library.
C.People's love for the library.
D.The author's devotion to the neighborhood.
6.What can we learn about the library according to paragraph 4?
A.It reflects the city diversity.
B.It has advantages over public libraries.
C.It only has books of dominant languages.
D.It has solved the problem of book storage.
7.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Comfortable Reading Corner: Promoting Reading
B.The Whispering Pages: Tales from a Shared Library
C.The Little Free Library: Contributing to Closer Connection
D.The Magic Bookshelf: Account of Neighborhood Harmony

Growing up, Maitri Wadher, a lefthander, has struggled to cope in a world made for righthanded people. From school desks to spiral notebooks that stop the natural flow of writing, Maitri has faced tough challenges from a young age. “My mother used to tie my left hand and make me eat with my right until a doctor warned that this could significantly affect my growth and confidence,” Maitri says.
This childhood experience had gnawed (折磨) at the back of her mind, pushing her to do something to ease the lives of fellow lefthanders. In September 2018, she started The Left Out Store, which makes everyday products ranging from lefthanded writing tools and scissors to kitchen tools for lefthanded people.
Starting The Left Out Store wasn't in the cards for Maitri for a very long time. The idea for The Left Out Store came to Maitri in just 20 minutes during a festival at St. Joseph's Institute of Management, where she was a postgraduate student. She presented the rough idea to judges who later became sponsors, and they enthusiastically supported it. This encouragement gave her the push to make it a market research project to test the waters and explore the potential market.
Initially, Maitri faced a few hiccups. It took her quite some time to find vendors (小贩) and make them understand how to make the products. With everything in place, Maitri went through a tough time reaching customers. The first time she made a proper sale was at an exhibition at Lalit Ashok. “People were surprised at first, but gradually more lefthanded people began approaching me, and said they relate to my struggles.” Since then, she has been regularly marketing her products at exhibitions, and keeps The Left Out Store active on social media.
8.What challenge did Maitri face as a lefthander while growing up?
A.Unfair judgement.
B.Lack of parents' love.
C.Limited access to education.
D.Struggle with school tools.
9.How did Maitri turn her idea into a reality?
A.By seeking student sponsors.
B.By conducting market research.
C.By expanding the potential market.
D.By carrying out her longthought plan.
10.What does the underlined word “hiccups” probably mean?
A.Barriers. B.Threats.
C.Complaints. D.Oppositions.
11.What might be a suitable title for the passage?
A.A LeftHander's Struggles
B.Maitri's Marketing Strategies
C.Maitri: A Social Media Celebrity
D.The Left Out Store: Maitri's Journey

8.D [细节理解题。根据第一段“From school desks to spiral notebooks that stop the natural flow of writing, Maitri has faced tough challenges from a young age.(从学校的课桌到阻止书写自然流畅的螺旋笔记本,Maitri从小就面临着严峻的挑战。)”可知,作为一名左撇子,Maitri在成长过程中遇到的挑战是与学校工具作斗争。]
9.B [细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“This encouragement gave her the push to make it a market research project to test the waters and explore the potential market.(这种鼓励促使她把它变成一个市场研究项目,以尝试和探索潜在市场。)”可知,Maitri通过开展市场研究项目把她的想法变成现实。]
10.A [词义猜测题。根据划线词后文“It took her quite some time to find vendors (小贩) and make them understand how to make the products.(她花了很长时间才找到供应商,并让他们了解如何制作产品。)”可知,她花了很长时间才找到供应商,并让他们了解如何制作产品,说明一开始遇到了障碍。故划线词的意思是“障碍”。]
11.D [主旨大意题。根据第二段“This childhood experience had gnawed (折磨) at the back of her mind, pushing her to do something to ease the lives of fellow lefthanders. In September 2018, she started The Left Out Store, which makes everyday products ranging from lefthanded writing tools and scissors to kitchen tools for lefthanded people.(这段童年经历一直在她的脑海里挥之不去,促使她做些事情来缓解其他左撇子的生活。2018年9月,她创办了‘左手商店’,生产从左撇子书写工具、剪刀到左撇子厨房工具等日常用品。)”结合文章主要讲述了Maitri因为是左撇子,从小在学校遇到了很多困难。于是后来她萌生了创办“左手商店”的想法,并通过努力付诸实践。可知,D选项“左手商店:Maitri的旅程”最符合文章标题。]

Kishiki Noriyo pulls up outside a house in Akashi, a city in western Japan in a truck with a heart logo and the slogan: “Diaper delivery: we also deliver kindness.” She steps out with two bags of diapers (尿布). Higuchi Miki, a young mother appears at the front door with a baby. Ms Kishiki is on the front line of a tenyear push by Akashi to encourage its residents to have children. It includes delivering free baby food and diapers, free medical care and school lunches. The effort seems to be paying off. Akashi's population has increased for ten years in a row, to more than 300,000.
This makes the town exceptional. Japan's birth rate was below the replacement level of 2.1 children per woman in the mid1970s and has been steadily declining ever since. Many barriers to young Japanese forming families, from high education costs to inflexible family laws can only be tackled with national policies. But Akashi shows how local communities can make a difference. That starts with improving access to nurseries and day care, and smaller projects such as Ms Kishiki's, also help.
Kato Hisakazu of Meiji University thinks Japan “needs to foster a culture that is generous to children”. Efforts to build more childcare facilities are often blocked by locals who worry about increased noise. Tanaka Yumi, a mother of two, says young Japanese parents are used to receiving a “cold look” from their unsympathetic neighbors. But the abundance of young families in the town and the supportive policies of its local administration provide comfort.
Akashi's prochild efforts are intended to drive the same cultural change. Morioka Kazumi of the town's childcare department says the diaper deliveries are more about “reducing loneliness” than the goods themselves. Ms Higuchi, the young mother, appreciates that. “It's nice when someone checks on me,” she says. “It makes me feel I'm on the right track.”
12.What can be inferred about Kishiki Noriyo?
A.She delivers paid medical care.
B.She assists families with children.
C.She sees no prospect of her hard work.
D.She struggles with work as a young mother.
13.What do Akashi's efforts suggest?
A.Young couples are still hesitant about having babies.
B.National policies are inadequate in improving low birth rate.
C.The town becomes worldfamous for the increasing population.
D.Local communities can contribute a lot in encouraging baby births.
14.What can we learn from Paragraph 3?
A.Japanese parents suffer from loneliness.
B.Japanese are not tolerant enough of children.
C.Childcare facilities are in great need in Akashi.
D.More and more young families have moved to Akashi.
15.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Diaper Delivery Reduces Mums' Stress
B.Japan Makes Plans to Increase Baby Births
C.Akashi Turns the Low Birth Rate for Higher
D.The Young Face Barriers in Forming Families

15.C [主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“Ms Kishiki is on the front line of a tenyear push by Akashi to encourage...in a row, to more than 300,000.”、第二段“Many barriers to young Japanese forming families, from...can make a difference.(从高昂的教育成本到不灵活的家庭法律,日本年轻人组建家庭面临诸多障碍,这些只能通过国家政策来解决。但明石市表明,当地社区可以发挥作用。)”以及最后一段“Ms Higuchi, the young mother, appreciates that. ‘It's nice when someone checks on me,’ she says. ‘It makes me feel I'm on the right track.’”可知,文章主要讲述了明石市通过一系列举措成功提高了生育率。]
