Pauline grew up in Mombo,Tanzania, with wonderful memories of the local forest."Back in 2004,
I visited the forest with my grandfather often,"he recalled."It was fresh, with many birds, eagles and
flowing water sources."He left for studies and retured to find a totally different scenegreyer trees,
fewer animals and scarce water.Life for locals became much harder, especially for families depending on
the forest for fuel and food.
The problem was clear:the forest was dying, and people struggled without enough water."Women
now walk 9km just to get water,"Pauline said.He found the main causes:climate change, overgrazing
(过度放牧),deforestation and overuse of forest resources..Fires from nearby farms also destroyed large
forest areas, breaking the natural balance and making water patterns changeable.
To fix this,Pauline's organization"Social Community Forum"took action.They mixed reforestation
with community support:planting native trees like Albizia to restore water cycles, and growing mangoes,
avocados and vegetables to meet food needs and make money. They also taught locals about
environmental protection in schools and village meetings. We need to reduce dependence on the
forest,"Pauline explained.Women's groups managed nurseries,and students joined tree-planting
activities eagerly.
Nowadays, rare (birds like sunbirds and eagles are returning as the forest recovers, and
some water sources are flowing again-women now spend less time collecting water."When I see young
trees growing,I see life for the community,"Pauline smiled. His work not only saves the forest but also
rebuilds the relationship between people and nature, ensuring future generations of Mombo can enjoy the
same rich forest he once knew.

As I walked around the large green sculpture ()watching how shade and light changed as I
moved,I felt my stress drop quickly.Reclining Mother and Child by Henry Moore carries a strong sense
of peace.I could imagine the mother and child enjoying the beautiful gardens where they sat, just as I
was enjoying the quiet moment.!
The sculpture is one of 30 of Moore's works shown at Kew Gardens in London for the show Henry

A new study finds that bumblebees (can use things around them to work out difficult
problems they've never met before. This shows that even with small brains, these bees can think in more
17t元111t1
difficult ways than people usually think.
A famous 1913 experiment with chimpanzees(大s猩猩)gave scientists the idea..The animals
stacked()boxes to reach a banana that was too high. This ability to use objects to solve new
problems is called "insight",and few animals are known to have it.
(代之5处燕1许二
Researchers in Finland designed a similar test for bumblebees. They built a low round space (ony
3.2 centimeters tall)where bees couldn't yor reach the top from the floorensuring the only way to
succeed was using the foam (ball.First, the bees spent several days getting familiar with the
setup:they learned that a blue dot on the floor had sweet food as a reward, and they often touched and
pushed the foam ball out of curiosity before realizing it could roll.
Inthe al tet the blue dot mved to the top of the space.Hole werede in the oorand
one was right under the dot.The bees needed torol the ball into that holeto stand on it and reach the
reward, with many trying a few gentle pushes before getting the ball in the right spot.
About 73%of young bees solved the puzzle, even though they'd never seen anything like it.To
make sure it wasn't luck, scientists hid the dot behind a small wall. The bees still found the right way,
showing their solution was deliberate(深思熟虑的).
The study proves that bumblebees have9 insight,(认知能力).and can come up with clever sotion
to new challenges, despite their small brains. This finding helps scientists better understand how small-
brained creatures develop problem-solving abilitiesoffering new clues about animal intelligence.
32.What does the new study mainly tell us about bumblebees?
A.They prefer sweet food from blue dots..
B.They can fly higher,than any.of the other,bees
C.They have better problem-solving skills than thought.
D.They can remember places with food for a long time.
33.Why did scientists mention the 1913 chimpanzee experiment?
A.To prove animals love solving puzzles.
B.To explain how the bee test was designed.
C.To show chimpanzees are smarter than bees.
D.To introduce a new way of doing experiments.
34.What did scientists do to ensure the bees used the foam ball?
A.They made the blue dot hard to find.B.They trained bees to stack objects first.
C.They hid the sweet reward under the floor.D.They built a low space where bees couldn't fly.

35.What can welinfer from the experiment results?)

America's milk industry is facing an unusualproblem:arecord amount of cheese in storage.
According to recent data, milk producers are storing about 1.4 billion pounds of cheese, the highest level
in nearly 100 years of tracking.
115C2144
The main reason lies in the imbalance between supply and demand.36 This allows cows
to produce more milk than ever before. At the same time,Americans are drinking much less milk than
they did decades ao choosing plant-based drinks like soy or amond milk instead. In 1975,the average
person drank around29 gallons(加仑)of milk a year..
37

To deal with the extra milk, dairy companies tur it into cheese.
Unlike fresh milk,
cheese can be stored for months without going bad, giving companies more time to find buyers. However,
changing consumer tastes have made this task harder.Cheddar used to be America's favorite cheese, but
since 2010,Mozzarella has become more popular, especially for pizza.Americans are also trying new
kinds of cheese from Europe and Asia, and many of these new choices are brought in from other
countries.
39Back in 2016,a similar situation happened, and the government bought 11 million
pounds of extra cheese and gave it to people who needed help. But this time, the extra amount is much
larger-enough to make a cheese wheel the size of a famous landmark.
The surplus ()has greatly affected dairy farmers. For farmers, low milk prices result in
reduced income.0 Finding a solution to this surplus will require balancing production with
changing consumer habits.
A.Some have even had to close their farms..(化I能,代飞I圆小每;腰水0f共】#二
B.By2017,that number had dropped to17 gallons..i世f个I人t坡白,炎时才i
C.Cheese production is more profitable than selling fresh milk.
D.This method seems practical because of cheese's long shelf life.
E.Plant-based milk products are healthier than traditional dairy milk.
F.This is not the first time that the US has faced a lot of extra cheese.

agi infront of me tripped and fell. Her books and papers spread across the smooth oor like fallen leaves.
A lined notebook-with little star drawings on its coverslid far away and stopped near my feet.
I knew she was Lily, the new student who'd joined our class three days before. She hardly said a
word in class, always sitting alone at the back. Her head was often down,as if she wanted to hide
against the wall. Now,her face turned bright red.She knelt()down quickly, trying to pick up her
things in a hurry. Many students walked past, some stepping over her papers without even looking.I saw
fear in her eyes-she would be late for class, and she looked like she might cry.
Without thinking,I got down to help."Here,"I said, giving her the star notebook."Let's get
these together fast."She looked up,surprised. Then she whispered aquietthank you."We worked
quickly, piling her textbooks and pushing loose papers into her folder. When we stood up,the class bell
rang-loud and sharp-but I smiled."Math is in Room 302,right?I'll go with you.
As we walked fast down the hallway,Lily started to talk softly. She told me she'd gotten lost twice
that morning."I'm really bad with finding my way,"she laughed, playing with her schoolbag belt
nervously. When we got to the classroom door, she tured to me.Her eyes looked warm and kind. You
