Some people find their purpose by chance, while others grow into it. For Alyssa Rae Tootle, the owner and creative mind behind A. R. T Photography, her passion for capturing life’s rawest, most unfiltered (未加滤镜的) moments was planted early and bloomed naturally into the career for which she was meant.
Born and raised in Statesboro, Alyssa developed her love for photography at home. Her mother was rarely seen without a camera in hand. At just 12, Alyssa was gifted her first camera. Her world shifted, and suddenly everything became an adventure worth documenting. As she grew older, her natural curiosity and love for people were woven into her art. Photography became the perfect marriage between her adventurous spirit and her gift of making others feel seen, and what once was a passion project gradually turned into something much bigger: a career rooted in storytelling and service.
The name A. R. T Photography is more than just her initials; it’s her philosophy. Every session is a chance to add artistry to real life, to capture a brief moment and turn it into something timeless. Alyssa describes her style in three words: raw, real moments. She leans into spontaneity (率真) and encourages her customers to do the same, promising to create an atmosphere where they can be their truest selves.
Still, no journey is without challenges. For Alyssa, the hardest part of becoming a photographer wasn’t the art itself but combining artistic work with business demands. “There are days when you just have to weigh the pros and cons of a situation and go with the flow,” she said.
Looking ahead, Alyssa has a goal: To build A. R. T Photography into a more established and trusted local brand in Statesboro and beyond. But more than anything, she wants her work to continue to inspire others to slow down and notice the small beauties in their own lives, passions and paths — those hidden gems (宝石) that are so often overlooked.
4. What made Alyssa fall in love with photography at first?
A. Love for raw unfiltered moments. B. Family photographic influence.
C. Passion for telling stories via photos. D. Desire to create timeless pictures.
5. Why did Alyssa name her studio A. R. T Photography?
A. To follow popular styles of local photo shops.
B. To attract more young customers worldwide.
C. To show her unique creative idea of shooting.
D. To use the short form of her mother’s full name.
6. What was Alyssa’s biggest difficulty in her career?
A. Mixing artistic creation with business work.
B. Mastering complicated photo editing skills.
C. Finding enough customers in her hometown.
D. Competing with other local photographers.
7. Which of the following best describes Alyssa?
A. Silent and hesitant. B. Thoughtful and motivated.
C. Strict and competitive. D. Easy-going and humorous.

A new island to support wildlife is being created in the UK. The National Trust, a conservation organization, recently sank three large boats into the Blackwater Estuary (河口) in Essex, England, to form the base of the island. Birds can rest there, and the structure will protect the area’s salt marsh (盐沼) habitats, where many plant and animal species live.
An estuary is where a river widens and flows into the sea. The Blackwater Estuary is home to some of the UK’s most threatened seabirds. Experts hope the man-made island will be a safe place for these birds.
To make the man-made island, the team cut holes in the bottom of the boats and poured mud into them to weigh them down. It took about 282,000 cubic feet of mud to fill and surround the boats — enough to fill more than three Olympic swimming pools. More mud will be piled on top, and then a layer of gravel (砾石) will be added. Once the work is complete, the island will be slightly larger than a football field. It will be a place for the birds to rest, even when the tide is at its highest and nearby shores are largely underwater.
Along with creating a new home for birds, the team hopes the island will slow the erosion of the salt marsh inside the estuary. Erosion can happen when flooding and waves pull soil and rocks into the sea. The new island should act as a defense, sheltering the salt marsh from waves to protect the habitat.
Katy Gilchrist, coastal project manager for the National Trust, said the program was a form of “marine recycling” because it transformed retired boats into a reserve for wildlife. “We’re basically turning history into habitat,” she added. “And as far as we know, no one has attempted anything quite like this before.”
8. Why is the Blackwater Estuary specially valued by experts?
A. It shelters endangered seabirds. B. It holds vast amounts of thick mud.
C. It resists serious coastal erosion. D. It works for marine recycling projects.
9. How do workers make the boats stay steadily underwater?
A. Cover the boats mostly with thick gravel. B. Dig pools around the boat structures.
C. Cut extra holes in the boat side surfaces. D. Fill the boats with heavy mud inside.
10. What additional benefit does the man-made island bring?
A. It prevents soil loss in the salt marsh. B. It creates new boat recycling factories.
C. It improves water quality in the river. D. It attracts more tourists to the seaside.
11. How does Katy Gilchrist find this project?
A. Costly. B. Demanding. C. Creative. D. Unrealistic.
【答案】8. A 9. D 10. A 11. C

In the wave of agricultural automation (自动化), fruit picking has long been a technical challenge.
Traditional human harvesting is inefficient and costly, while fully automated robots often struggle with inaccurate positioning and inflexible operation in complex environments.
A research team led by Associate Professor Wang Pei from China’s Southwest University has addressed this problem with an innovative study. They developed a human-robot cooperative harvesting robot that can precisely locate and pick fruit with a simple wave.
Researchers found that humans excel at identifying fruit locations and determining picking paths, while robotic arms perform better in repetitive motions and force control. Based on this insight, they designed a motion-sensing interaction system; the operator uses a Leap Motion sensor to detect hand movements in real time, directing the robotic arm to the target position, and then launches (启动) the automated picking process with a double-tap gesture. This design combines human “eyes” with machine “arms”, maintaining human flexibility while capitalizing on mechanical (机械的) stability.
To make the robotic arm move accurately, the team solved several technical problems. For example, when the computer calculates how the arm should move, it often finds many different ways to reach the same fruit. This can make the arm shake or suddenly stop. To fix this, researchers created a “four-step screening method”: checking if the arm might hit itself, making sure the movement is correct, checking if the action is natural, and making the movement path as smooth as possible. Tests showed that the modified arm moved along a shorter path and turned its joints less, making the whole picking process much smoother.
This technology lowers the technical barrier through a “human-robot cooperation” model — removing reliance on expensive vision systems and enabling farmers to operate it with minimal training. The modular (组合式的) design of the robotic arm allows for flexible replacement of joint motors, further enhancing maintainability. Tests confirm the system excels in complex environments, adapting well to challenges like blocked vision from leaves and uneven lighting.
12. What is the main trouble in fruit picking automation?
A. Robots work too flexibly outdoors. B. Robots misjudge fruit positions often.
C. Machine production costs keep falling. D. Fruit types limit robot popularization.
13. What can be concluded about the new picking robot?
A. It picks fruit through completely fixed paths.
B. It recognizes fruit via pre-set vision systems.
C. It gets controlled through specific hand gestures.
D. It relies on the three-step screening method to work.
14. What does the underlined word “modified” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Improved. B. Powered. C. Afforded. D. Discovered.
15. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. The Rising Cost of Agricultural Labor B. A New Chapter of Fully Automated Farms
C. Challenges in Designing Robotic Arms D. Human-Robot Teamwork in Fruit Harvesting
【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. D

【答案】【答案1】
Dear fellow students,
When it comes to the two themes for our class meeting, I am firmly in favor of Balancing Short Videos and Academic Studies.
Nowadays, many of us spend too much time on short videos, which affects our focus and study efficiency. Discussing this topic can help us realize the problem and find practical ways to manage screen time better. It is also very relevant to our daily life, so everyone will have something to share.
I believe this topic will make our class meeting both meaningful and helpful.
Thank you for listening!
小作文【答案2】
Dear fellow students,
When choosing between the two themes, I strongly recommend the Digital Detox Challenge.
Nowadays, many of us are addicted to phones and online apps, which leaves us little time for face-to-face communication or deep thinking. This challenge can help us take a break from the digital world, reconnect with real life, and focus more on our studies and offline hobbies. It is both practical and meaningful for all of us.
I believe this topic will be warmly received by everyone.
Thank you for listening!

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My grandma had always been the warmest person in my life. Every winter, she would knit a thick scarf (围巾) for me, with soft wool and neat stitches (缝合) that wrapped around my neck like her gentle hug. But when I entered senior high school, I thought her scarves were outdated and boring. I started hiding them in the corner of my closet, never wearing them, even on the coldest days. I even lied to her, saying, “Grandma, the scarves are too warm. I don’t need them any more.”
Grandma’s eyes became less bright when she heard that, but she never complained. She just smiled and said with concern, “It’s okay, dear. As long as you’re warm.” From then on, she stopped knitting scarves for me. Instead, she spent every afternoon sitting by the window, holding her old knitting needles, staring at the empty yarn (纱线) basket, lost in deep thought. I felt a little guilty, but I never apologized — pride prevented me from admitting that I was wrong.
One day, I came home late from school, feeling tired and cold. I accidentally knocked over the closet, and all my clothes fell out, including the hidden scarves. Among them, I found a new scarf, half-knit, with my favorite blue wool. Beside it was a small note, written in Grandma’s shaky handwriting, “For my dear grandchild, I know you don’t like the old scarves, so I tried a new color. I hope it can keep you warm this winter.”
Tears filled my eyes instantly. I rushed to Grandma’s room, only to find her lying in bed, weak and pale. My mom told me that Grandma had been badly ill for a month, but she insisted on knitting the scarf for me, saying it was her last wish to ensure I stayed warm. She was too weak to finish it, but she never quit trying. I held the half-knit scarf tightly, feeling the warmth of the wool and the deep love hidden in every stitch.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I put on the half-knit scarf immediately, even though it was not finished.

A week later, Grandma passed away.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I put on the half-knit scarf immediately, even though it was not finished. It was the warmest and best scarf that I had ever worn. That night, I sat by Grandma’s bed, holding her hand, and apologized sincerely to her for my foolishness and selfishness, “Grandma! I have let you down. I’m terribly sorry for this.” Hearing this, Grandma simply smiled at me and gently petted my hair, saying lovingly, “I know all along that you love me, dear. That’s enough!”
A week later, Grandma passed away. I was heartbroken for quite a while. I kept the half-knit scarf with me every day, and I finished knitting it with her old needles. Whenever I wear it, I can feel her love around me. I eventually realized that the most precious things in life are not the fancy and fashionable ones, but the simple and sincere love from our family. Love is never outdated and it’ll always warm our hearts, even when our loved one is gone. Sometimes, we are too busy chasing what we think is perfect, but we forget to treasure the love that has been around us all along.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I put on the half-knit scarf immediately, even though it was not finished.
