Lena, a 62-year-old woman living in a quiet Canadian town, found an old guitar in the attic (阁楼) last week. She was sorting old photos and childhood toys when her hand touched the cool wood, and the familiar shape brought a big smile. The guitar’s wooden body was grey, and its strings (弦) were broken, but it brought back a flood of warm old stories.
When Lena was 7, her father often taught her to play the guitar by their lakeside house. One summer evening, he asked her to play Happy Birthday for her little brother Max. Max laughed and cheered even when she messed up notes. “Music makes every moment special,” Dad would say, smiling as Lena struggled with the music notes. Neighbors passed by to listen and sang along, while her dog Buddy moved his tail happily and touched her hand softly. That year, her father gave her the guitar as a New Year gift, telling her to record moments with the family by using music.
Now, so many years later, Lena softly cleaned the guitar. She replaced the strings and tried to play the old song — her fingers hurt a little, but the song felt like a hug from the past. Though her fingers were not as quick as before and her voice was a bit shaky, the same happiness filled her heart. Looking in the mirror, she saw grey hair, but her eyes shone just like they did by the lake.
“Some things never change,” Lena said softly, touching the guitar’s old neck. She missed her father, but the guitar made her feel close. The guitar looks old, but in her mind, she was still that 7-year-old girl, laughing under the sunset with her family. Age may make us look older, but the music in our hearts remains as young as ever.
4. What made Lena think of the old stories?
A. Her dog Buddy. B. The old photos.
C. The lakeside house. D. The discovered guitar.
5. Why did Lena’s father teach her to play the guitar?
A. To value family time. B. To gift her on New Year.
C. To celebrate Max’s birthday. D. To spread music to neighbors.
6. How did Lena feel when playing the old song years later?
A. Sad. B. Proud. C. Regretful. D. Joyful.
7. What does the text want to tell us?
A. Old things need care. B. Practice makes perfect.
C. Music comes from daily life. D. Music keeps us young at heart.

Recently, a video made by a foreign video maker has been widely spread across the Internet, winning thousands of likes. The video centers on a specially designed bus service in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Known as Route 252, this “farmer-friendly bus” has brought great convenience to local vegetable farmers.
In the past, farmers living in the countryside faced many difficulties when selling their fresh produce (农产品) in the city. They had to set off very early and take expensive private transport, which added a lot to their cost. Besides, the early morning trips on the narrow country roads were not only tiring but also full of safety risks. To improve the situation, the local government provided this special bus service in June 2024.
The bus provides two direct morning rides from rural areas to the city market, avoiding unnecessary stops along the way. As a result, the whole journey takes only about 40 minutes. What’s more, the charge is quite low:2 yuan for each passenger and no more than 7 yuan for vegetable baskets per trip.
Some seats on the bus have been removed and replaced with foldable (可折叠的) shelves to hold produce, creating more space for farmers’ vegetables. Drivers are often ready to give a hand to elderly farmers with heavy baskets. Over 2,200 farmers now take this bus to sell their products directly to city shoppers.
The foreign video maker expresses great admiration for the service in his video. He thinks it is simple yet extremely practical and caring, adding that such warm public services are rarely seen in many other countries. For the local farmers, this bus is more than a way of transport. It connects their farm work to a better life.
8. What trouble did farmers have before the bus service appeared?
A. They were too old to carry heavy vegetable baskets.
B. They had no place to sell their vegetables in the city.
C. They failed to get enough money from growing vegetables.
D. They had great difficulty getting their vegetables to the market.
9. What can we infer from paragraph 3-4?
A. The bus has helped farmers open new business.
B. Farmers need to pay for every basket of vegetables.
C. The bus has made it easier for farmers to sell their produce.
D. The government plans to open more bus lines in the countryside.
10. What is the foreign video maker’s comment on the bus service?
A. Helpful and full of human warmth.
B. It can solve most countryside problems.
C. Helpful but not easy to continue for long.
D. It should be widely spread in his own country.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To show the importance of public transport for farmers.
B. To encourage readers to learn from the foreign video maker.
C. To advise local governments to care about common people’s life.
D. To introduce a warm and practical bus service for vegetable growers.

An IT company from Finland has developed a new font (字体) which uses machine learning to rewrite bad language into kinder words.
More than a third of bullying (欺凌) takes place online, and the numbers are on the rise, according to a report by the United Nations’ educational organization UNESCO. TietoEVRY developed the Polite Type font as a new tool to deal with online bullying among kids, pointing out harmful language and causing users to pick kinder words.
As users try to write hurtful English words, the font will directly replace them.
Writing “I hate you” would, for example, result in the milder “I disagree with you” when Polite Type is used on the computer. Sentences such as “you are ugly” is changed into “you are not traditionally beautiful” while hurtful words are covered completely. The company says it is the first example where a cover has been used as a symbol in a font package. Racial slurs (种族歧视语) are replaced with the racial group they refer to, rather than covering the word entirely.
The vocabulary of the font was co-created with teenagers from Finland. The font’s library of words was chosen to include language from different origins, religions, and world views, and will make changes as more people and businesses use it. In the future, TietoEVRY suggests that machine learning could be used to teach the font to understand how language is used. Polite Type can be now downloaded and used for free.
“We want bullies to rethink the words they use and the actual meaning behind them,” said Kia Haring, global head of communication at TietoEVRY. “I hope that our cause acts as a wake-up call for all audiences to consider how bullying could be solved.”
12. What does the underlined word “milder” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Shorter. B. Less rude. C. Clearer. D. More interesting.
13. What can we expect of the Polite Type font in the future?
A. It will be updated.
B. More racial groups will use it.
C. It will have more words covered.
D. Users will be charged with using it.
14. What does Kia Haring think of creating the Polite Type font?
A. Imperfect. B. Unsuccessful. C. Attracting. D. Inspiring.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Font Avoids Racial Slurs
B. Polite Type: The Self-Developing Font
C. A Font Designed to Fight Online Bullying
D. Show Others Kindness by Using A New Font

Ever since I entered senior high school, I had been buried in endless homework and school projects, and I hardly had time to stay with my family. My mom, a gentle and patient woman, always tried to get close to me, but I often pushed her away coldly, buried in my own busy schedule.
She loved baking sweet cookies in her free time, a family hobby she had kept since I was a little kid. She would set a plate of warm cookies on my desk every evening, hoping to share a few quiet minutes with me, but I would only nod without looking up from my books, or even tell her to leave me alone in a sharp voice. I could see the sadness in her eyes, but I was too caught up in my stress to care.
Last Saturday afternoon, I stayed in my room reviewing for a big exam, feeling stressed and upset. The whole house was quiet, except for the soft sound of baking from the kitchen. I planned to ignore it as usual, but I suddenly found my math notebook missing. I rushed to the kitchen to look for it, and what I saw stopped me.
Mom was standing by the oven, her hands covered in flour (面粉) and there was an unfinished cookie jar (罐子) on the table. The jar was painted with little stars and my name, half-done. Beside it lay a small note, written in her warm handwriting, “For my dearest kid, no matter how busy you are, I’m always here.” She looked up at me, a little surprised and shy, without saying a word. My throat tightened immediately, and a wave of guilt (愧疚) washed over me. I realized that I only thought about myself all the time. I didn’t notice how much my mom loved and cared for me. I stood there, not knowing what to say, my eyes filled with tears.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I breathed deeply and walked to mom, filled with regrets.

【答案】12. B 13. A 14. D 15. C

词句猜测题。根据第四段“Writing “I hate you” would, for example, result in the milder “I disagree with you” when Polite Type is used on the computer.(例如,在电脑上使用礼貌字体时,输入“我恨你”会转换成milder的句子“我不认同你的观点”。)”可知,原文将伤人语句替换为温和礼貌的表达,由此可知milder意思是“不那么粗鲁的”,对应Less rude。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“The font’s library of words was chosen to include language from different origins, religions, and world views, and will make changes as more people and businesses use it.(这款字体的词库收录不同出身、宗教、世界观相关用语,随着更多个人和企业使用,词库会持续更新调整。)”以及“In the future, TietoEVRY suggests that machine learning could be used to teach the font to understand how language is used.(未来,TietoEVRY认为可运用机器学习来教会这款字体理解语言的使用方式。)”可知,这款字体未来会持续更新升级。

【答案】
A Plan for My Future
Hello everyone!
Today I’d like to share my clear future plan. I plan to keep improving my English and become a volunteer for international communication in the future.
I have this plan for two main reasons. First, English is a global language, which enables us to connect with the whole world. By mastering it well, I can broaden my horizons and learn more advanced knowledge and different cultures. Second, I hope to use my English skills to help others. I want to serve as a volunteer to introduce Chinese culture to foreign friends and spread the beauty of our motherland.
I will stick to daily practice to make my dream come true step by step.
Thanks for listening!

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I breathed deeply and walked to mom, filled with regrets.

【答案】
I breathed deeply and walked to mom, filled with regrets. Gently wiping the flour off her cheek, I whispered, “I’m sorry for pushing you away.” She paused, her eyes softening, and pulled me into a warm hug. Together, we finished painting the cookie jar, adding golden stars around my name. As the sweet smell filled the kitchen, I shared my exam stress with her, and she listened patiently, stroking my hair. For the first time in months, I felt the heavy weight lift off my chest, replaced by a comforting warmth I had almost forgotten.
From then on, I made a big change in my attitude towards my mom and family time. I began setting aside thirty minutes each evening to chat with her over her freshly baked cookies, no longer burying myself in books. During weekends, we even baked together, laughing as we shaped dough into stars and moons. I realized that family moments, though brief, were the anchor grounding me amid academic storms. Now, whenever I see the star-painted cookie jar on my desk, it reminds me that love waits quietly — and it’s always worth pausing to embrace it.
