Dear William,
I'm Li Hua,an exchange student from China.I'm writing to apply to be a volunteer
interpreter for your upcoming exhibition of Chinese cultural relics.
I believe I'm well suited to this role.First,I have previous volunteer experience and am quite
familiar with Chinese history and cultural relics. In addition,I'm outgoing and optimistic, which
helps me communicate easily with different people. Most importantly,I speak fluent English,so I
can introduce the background and stories of the exhibits clearly to visitors.
I would be grateful if you could consider my application.I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
七、读后续写(共25分)
Paragraph 1:
Neither of us expected to see that little boy again.Yet,several minutes later,to our surprise,
he returned. The boy came running back to us with a big smile on his face.He showed us a small
piggy bank in his hands."Here,"he said breathlessly,"I want to give all my money to help the
children with cancer."Lisa and I couldn't utter a single word when the boy poured out all the
coins into our donation box.It was then that we realized this little boy,who was probably not
much older than the children we were trying to help, had given up all his savings for this cause.
Paragraph 2:
Watching the boy walk away,Lisa and I were deeply touched. We knew that what he had
done would inspire others to do the same.As we continued our fundraising efforts,we shared the
boy's story with everyone who stopped by,hoping to spread the message of kindness and
generosity. It turned out that more and more people joined us to offer help.Small though it was,
the boy's selfless act was a powerful reminder that even the youngest among us can make a
difference in the world, which is what truly matters.

In 2025,Liu Jiakun,a world-famous architect, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize,
the highest honor in the field of architecture, becoming the second Chinese to win such recognition.
Liu's road to architecture was not smooth. He grew up in a family of doctors, but he was
always interested in art.He spent his childhood drawing and reading, which laid a solid foundation
for his later career. Before entering college in 1978,he had worked as an"educated youth"in the
countryside for five years. This period of tough work and close observation of farmers'life gave
him a deep understanding of the needs of ordinary people. He learned to see beauty in simplicity
and to value the connection between humans and the environment-lessons that would become the

Liu's works are famous for combining tradition with modernity and respecting the local
environment. He advocates the "low-tech strategy",using local and cheap materials to create

bricks",which are used in many reconstruction projects. His well-known works include West

architecture should show the inner beauty of a place and connect people with their homes. His
works not only bring comfort to people's life, but also pass on Chinese culture to the world."My

The thing about space is that it's huge.It took three days for Apollo(阿波罗号)to get to the
moon.It takes between five months and a year to get to Mars and around five years to get to Jupiter.
Of course, that's still in our neighborhood. The nearest star outside the Solar System is Proxima
Centauri(比邻星),which would take the Voy ager spacecraft80,O00 years to get to.
We're not really built for space travel. We don't live very long, relatively speaking. Our body
needs gravity.We need oxygen,warmth,water and food,but space doesn't have any of these.In
other words, space exploration is an incredibly dangerous venture.
When I was a kid, exploring space was a big deal. The last Apollo mission to the moon was in
高一英语试题第5页(共12页)
1972,but I was too young to know anything about it.The first space mission I actually
remember was Viking II,which landed on Mars.Honestly,I was expecting it to find alien life. Not
intelligent life, maybe, but life.Back then I thought that we were not alone in the universe. It was
only a matter of time before we'd pick up radio signals from an alien civilization. And when the
Space Shuttle program was first announced,I was sure that humans were going to explore the
universe, meet aliens, live on other worlds, and have adventures. And it was all going to happen in
my lifetime.Of course, not all my imagination has happened. But we need to go on exploring
Exploration,knowledge,wonder,imagination-these are the best of what it means to be human.
On January 28,1986,I sat in the cafeteria of my Catholic Memorial High School and watched
the Space Shuttle Challenger take off.The teachers at my school had set up TVs so that we could
get inspired.Instead,we all watched in horror as the space shuttle blew up again and again and
again.Seven astronauts died. However,no one thought that we should give up the Space Shuttle
program.If anything,we wanted more.We still do.
28.The first two paragraphs mainly talk about_
A.the difficulties of space travel
B.the main characteristics of space
C.the limitations of the human body
D.the location of Earth in the universe
29.According to the article, what did the author expect space exploration to produce when he was a
kid?
Devidence of alien life
2adventures in outer space
3knowledge about the origin of life
4communication with alien civilization
A.①②③
B.①②④
C.①③④
D.②③④
30.According to the author, why do we need to continue space exploration?
A.Because it involves the best things that make us human.
B.Because it is a worthwhile investment with huge profits.
C.Because we're still in the primary stage of learning about space.
D.Because no major progress has been made in space exploration for decades.
31.What message does the author intend to convey through the last paragraph?
A.Mankind's journey to space is a long one.
B.We need to encourage more students to explore outer space.
C.No difficulties should stop us from exploring the universe.
D.More efforts should be made to ensure the safety of astronauts.

The next time you find yourself in a car, driving along a winding road, you can tum on a
cheerful song.It might help you recover from car sickness.A team of researchers led by
neuroscientist Yilun Li at China's Henan Institute of Science and Technology has found music may
高一英语试题第6页(共12页)
be a surprisingly effective way to reduce travel-related discomfort.
In the experiments,30 volunteers used a machine that imitated (car driving,in which
they were made to feel carsick while wearing an electroencephalograph (EEG)device. This allowed
researchers to"read'the volunteers'brain activity in real time,as it changed from a stable state to
one of carsickness, and gradually back again.Volunteers were divided into six groups.Four groups
listened to a minute of music after the sick-making drive;one group listened to no music after the
drive, and instead spend one minute meditating ()that is,staying calm and focusing on their
breathing;and one group ended the drive right before volunteers were expected to feel discomfort.
The researchers found that joyful music reduced symptoms of carsickness by 14%compared to
the group that meditated.Soft music was the next best type.It reduced symptoms by 13.4%
compared to the meditation controls. It's difficult to confirm how significant these changes are,as
the experiments were carried out in a small group of people with limited sample size.Even so,the
results have found music can be powerful-changing the way we feel, for better or worse.
Previous studies have also shown that a favorite music can improve mood and make us feel
good. However,it's possible that in some situations,it can also have the opposite effect.Sad music
may worsen discomfort through emotional connection, the authors suggest. In contrast, cheerful or
relaxing music may help volunteers keep a good physical state, thus improving their comfort.
32.What is the author's purpose in mentioning turning on a cheerful song while in a driving car?
A.To give practical advice to drivers.
B.To introduce a research discovery.
C.To explain a new scientific theory.
D.To question an old common belief.
33.How did the researchers measure the volunteers'brain activity?
A.By testing in a moving car.
B.By playing different songs.
C.By observing their behavior.
D.By using a special device.
34.Why it is hard to confirm the significance of the changes?
A.Because of lack of devices.
B.Because of limited music types.
C.Because of short experiment time.
D.Because of limited sample size.
35.What is implied about music's effect in the last paragraph?
A.Music's effect depends on personal taste in music.
B.All music helps people keep a good physical state.
C.Not all types of music can produce positive results.
D.Music can make people feel good and improve people's mood.

How to communicate Well with People from Other Cultures
To build good relationships with people from other cultures,it is essential to learn how to
communicate with them. You can make things easier by learning about their culture and practicing
tolerance.Armed with the knowledge of how to communicate effectively, you can learn from
people from other cultures and share yours with them.
Learn about the culture beforehand.36 If you have time before starting a trip or
meeting with someone from another culture, try to take time to learn the basic"do's and don'ts"of
that culture. You can find information on this from internet sources such as those provided by the
National Center for Cultural Competence.
Expect differences.Different cultures will speak at different volumes,be more or less direct in
showing emotion, may or may not expect to engage in"small talk,"and exhibit other dissimilarities
in communication.37
38 Keep your feet on the floor, sit up straight, don't use your ars too much, and
otherwise keep your posture more or less conservative ()39 For example,
showing your foot in some cultures is seen as a gesture that shows a lack of respect,so you would
not want to cross your legs in a way that your sole sticks out.If it becomes clear that a less formal
posture is acceptable, you can follow suit.
Speak clearly and slowly,if necessary.Avoid shouting unnecessarily or treat others as though
they do not understand.Raising your voice won't make yourself easily understood.40
So even with communication difficulties, don't raise your voice improperly.
A.Do as the Romans do.
B.Keep a formal body language.
C.A little knowledge can go a long way.
D.Instead,it can be seen as ill-mannered sometimes.
E.It's better to ignore small cultural differences to avoid overthinking.
F.This is because certain body language can be seen as impolite to others.
G.When communicating across cultures,be prepared for such differences-even unexpected ones.

battling cancer ()One particular day,Lisa-my fellow volunteer-and I were appointed to raise
funds for cancer research at a public event.Though many people paused to glance at our poster or
ask a few questions, very few actually donated. As the minutes dragged on,both Lisa and I grew
increasingly upset.
About half an hour,Lisa sighed (in frustration,"I don't think we're going to raise much
today."I tried to sound optimistic,"The event isn't over yet-we still have time,"though deep
down,I shared her doubts.
Just as we were losing hope,a little boy,no more than eight years old, approached slowly.
Stopping in front of our poster,he frowned slightly, carefully reading the words. After a moment of
quiet concentration,he looked up with large, curious eyes and asked softly,"What is cancer?
I knelt down to his level and did my best to explain it in simple words, describing how the
illness affects people and why we need more research to help them. With his expression growing
more serious with each word,he asked,"Do children get cancer too?""Yes,"Lisa replied gently
with sadness."Many children do.Some of them don't get better. They really need someone to
help.”
Hearing this, his shoulders dropped slightly, and a shadow of sadness crossed his young face.
After a brief silence,he asked in a small voice,"How much money have you collected so far?'Lisa
and I exchanged an uneasy glance, both feeling embarrassed about revealing (how little we
