Passage1
(2025·江苏常州·中考真题)It was difficult not to see the 8-year-old boy run in and out of his house repeatedly. His repeated actions caused the curiosity of his neighbor, William Dunn.

That “something” was fishing, a hobby that Dunn’s father had once shared with him. He did it at once. After fishing together several times, Dunn saw encouraging changes in the boy’s behavior.
That was 16 years ago. Since then, Dunn has taken groups of fatherless kids fishing almost every weekend, teaching them how to set up a fishing line and bring in a big catch.

Jayden, now 23, has become a fisherman and thanks Dunn for helping him grow up. He proudly mentions catching a shark with Dunn’s help, “I hope he knows that I mean it when I say thank you.”
Another girl, 21-year-old Bella Smith, who is in a foster (抚养) program for young adults, notes that Dunn pays special attention to self-respect and spiritual strength. “When I’m fishing, I can forget about the past and enjoy something fun,” says Bella Smith. “Fishing has taught me that I can have a better life than what I had. For example, if a child is sad, a parent may hug him or her to give comfort. Grown-ups may hug to show each other love. Friends may hug to show friendship. Members of a team may hug after winning a game to show happiness and encourage other team members.

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·江苏常州·期中)Every Saturday evening growing up, my family and I gathered around my grandmother’s long dining table for delicious homemade food. There were loud conversations and games with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I loved these nights.
It was always special to spend the night at my grandmother’s house after one of these gatherings. I would stay there alone, without any of my three cousins. My grandmother would pay no attention to the mess. She set up a bed for me on the floor of her bedroom. Both of us read until our eyes wouldn’t stay open any longer.
The next morning, we woke up, ate bread, and got to work. She would spend the morning cleaning after each family party the night before. Some of my earliest memories include her rolling out the big vacuum cleaner (吸尘器) down the long hall. She’d do the dishes while I got to clean the table. And we’d flatten the cans together.
As I’ve entered my thirties and begun hosting friends of my own, I have adopted my grandmother’s cleaning method. I’ll never clean the night of the party. My mind deeply refuses it—only allowing a pile of dirty dishes to sit next to the sink (洗涤槽) after I’ve said goodbye to my guests and locked the gate. Then I go to bed with my partner and our cats, and we lose ourselves in the night of nice talks, close moments, and joy. On Sunday mornings, I roll out the vacuum cleaner, do the dishes, and play some music. It’s relaxing.
This is the type of cleaning that’s just for me—the kind meant to settle and absorb (吸收) the conversations and events of the night. I’m confident it strengthens the memories of the good times, too. A little more partying first and cleaning later. I advise you to try it sometime.

A.It is often done with her guests’ help.
B.It makes her feel stressed about the mess.
C.It takes her much longer than her grandmother’s.
D.It helps her think of the happy time from the party.
4.Which of the following best shows the main idea of the passage?
A.Childhood memories with family are the most valuable treasures in one’s life.
B.Cleaning the day after a party is more relaxing than cleaning on party night.
C.Hosting friends at home can create happy moments and strengthen relationships.

Perhaps your parents had the same problem when they were your age long ago. Why does it seem that some parents are not so friendly in their children’s eyes?
One of the biggest things is when someone becomes a parent, he or she likes worrying about things.
They worry about everything about you, from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get and so on. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.
So how can you make things easier on yourself? It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Get them to know your friends. Phone if you stay somewhere else. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Take responsibility for what you have done. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you. Some day, when you become a parent, they may be able to help you learn how to get on well with your children.

Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·安徽宿州·期中)
How Can Teenagers Make a Change?
Change is a necessary part of growing up. For many teenagers, changes can be challenging, such as overcoming a fear of public speaking, changing a bad habit like procrastination (拖延), or developing a new hobby. How can we successfully make a positive change? Here is some advice based on the experiences of successful teenagers.
1. Start Small and Be Specific
Don’t say “I want to be good at English.” It’s too vague. Instead, set a clear and achievable goal, like “I will learn 10 new English words every day” or “I will read one short English story each week.” When Leo decided to overcome his shyness, he didn’t start by giving a big speech. He began by raising his hand to answer one question in class. Small wins build confidence.
2. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Growth happens when you challenge yourself. If you are afraid of singing, try joining a school choir. If you want to change your habit of spending too much time on video games, try turning off your phone for an hour and going for a run instead. Maria used to be afraid of water. She finally decided to face her fear by taking swimming lessons. It was uncomfortable at first, but after a few weeks, she not only overcame her fear but also found a new passion.
3. Learn from Your Mistakes
Nobody gets it right the first time. You might forget some words during your speech, or you might not be able to finish your run. That’s perfectly okay! The key is not to give up. See every mistake as a step towards improvement. Thomas Edison once said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” This mindset is crucial for changing habits.
4. Be Patient and Kind to Yourself
Change takes time. Your brain and body need time to adapt to new ways of thinking and acting. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t see immediate results. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small it is. Remember, it’s a journey, not a race.
1.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To list all the fears teenagers have. B.To explain why change is so difficult.
C.To state that change is a necessary part of growing up. D.To share a story about a successful teenager.
2.What does Maria’s example show us?
A.Swimming is the best sport for everyone. B.Facing fears can help us discover new interests.
C.It’s easy to overcome a fear of water. D.Everyone should join a school club.
3.What is the writer’s advice about mistakes?
A.We should avoid making any mistakes.
B.Mistakes are failures and we should feel bad about them.
C.Mistakes are not important for learning.
D.We should see mistakes as chances to learn and improve.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D

Passage 5
(2026·福建厦门·模拟预测)
Long long ago, a boy lived in a village. One day, he found a small bamboo plant in the forest. He took it home and planted it behind his house. Every day, he watered it and waited for it to grow. But week after week, the bamboo stayed small. The boy felt sad. “Is it dead?” he wondered.
Several months later, the bamboo still looked the same. The boy almost threw it away. But one morning in spring, he saw a tiny green bamboo pushing up from the ground. Then, day by day, it grew taller and taller! In just a few weeks, it became a tall, strong bamboo tree. When the boy saw it, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
His grandpa explained, “The bamboo was busy growing under the soil (土壤) all those months. This made the bamboo strong. Then it grew very fast!”
This story tells us something important. In our daily life, we work hard but may not see results quickly. Like the bamboo, we are growing inside even when we can’t see it. Studying, practicing, and not giving up—these things help us get stronger.
Don’t worry if success takes time. Just keep trying! One day, you will grow tall like the bamboo.

Passage 6
(25-26九年级下·北京·期中)Although growing up in a poor family in post-war 1950s, Gloria Stewart remembers her poor but kindhearted parents always had an extra setting at their table, especially at Christmas.
The warmth of her mum and dad’s welcome for poor guests at the coldest time of the year inspired the 69-year-old grandmother to spread her own seasonal joy. “Mum and dad hadn’t even got a penny,” recalls Gloria. “But it didn’t matter. They’d never turn down any homeless one who knocked on the door.”
“When I became a mum, I tried to make the festive season as special as possible. However, I once met an old lady who was spending Christmas alone in bed. It broke my heart.”
In December 2007, Gloria hosted the first Home Alone lunch after advertising to the public and receiving donations. It took a special person with a big heart and an even bigger table to invite 87 lonely old people for Christmas. Her Home Alone event has lasted up to now.
Every Christmas, Gloria wears her most sparkly dress to serve the traditional roast to every table of her smiling, grateful guests, making time to speak to as many of them as possible. After her first lunch, Gloria was nicknamed Mrs. Christmas. And now she has written a book about her extraordinary life helping bring joy to the elderly who would normally spend Christmas alone.
She wrote in her book, “When I was a child, I had few friends and I was laughed at for being so poor. So I was determined no one else should bear the loneliness and hardship I had suffered.” Having battled cancer three times, Gloria became even more determined to make sure Christmas was not clouded by sadness.
Now the Home Alone event has grown to serving turkey lunch to over 500 happy guests. The kind lady received an award from Sheffield City Council for her efforts and was praised by former Prime Minister David Cameron.

(25-26九年级上·广西崇左·期中)Growing up is a journey with both challenges and discoveries. For Tony, his first year in high school was a period of great change. He was always one of the shortest boys in his class and felt a bit insecure (缺乏信心的), especially when his classmates talked about their latest growth spurts (生长突增).
In the first term, Tony tried out for the school basketball team but was not accepted. He was very disappointed. However, his P. E. teacher, Mr. Wang, noticed his passion (热情) and suggested he join the table tennis team instead. Mr. Wang said, “Success doesn’t only come from height; it comes from practice and a strong heart.”
Tony took his teacher’s advice. He started to practice table tennis every day after school. At first, it was difficult, and he lost many games. But he didn’t give up. He learned from his mistakes and watched videos to improve his skills.
By the time the second term came, Tony had become one of the best players on the team. He even won a medal in a city-wide competition. How to Develop a Better Relationship with Your Parents
As students, developing a good relationship with your parents is very important. But most of the time, there are all kinds of problems between you and your parents. If you are looking for ways to solve these problems, you are not alone. The following suggestions may be helpful.
First, express thanks to your parents. Consider all your parents have done for you; all the ways that they have helped you; all the ways they have influenced how you think. You may find yourself feeling thankful for your parents and more willing to improve the relationship. Then express your thanks with your actions. Get them a nice gift or do some extra housework without being asked. They will likely be happy with you for this.
Second, think about problems from their perspective (角度). It’s necessary to do so because everyone is different. You should also accept that your parents are different. They grow up in different times with different ways of thinking. If you have a poor relationship with your parents just because you finish your homework with the help of the Internet, talk with them about your opinion patiently. They will understand you.
Last, be open and honest. One way to improve your relationship is to be more willing to discuss uncomfortable topics with your parents. You should have an in-depth (深入的) talk with your parents once a week. This will help to build trust in your relationship with them, which will improve your relationship with them. If you listen to your parents, they will be more likely to listen to you.

Sometimes, kids don’t think their parents are fair to them. When you want to dress in a modern way, your mum won’t allow you to wear a mini-skirt. How can you change such a situation?

You can also keep a diary to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings. It’s necessary to show your parents you are growing up. Wash your own clothes and help around the house. Your parents will feel you are no longer a child. If you follow these steps, you will be able to break down the walls between you and your parents. Your home will be a happier place.

(2024·海南·中考真题)A hug (拥抱) is a form of human touch that happens when two or more people hold each other closely. People hug for many different reasons in their lives.

D.It helps her think of the happy time from the party.
4.Which of the following best shows the main idea of the passage?
A.Childhood memories with family are the most valuable treasures in one’s life.

Passage 3
(25-26九年级下·新疆乌鲁木齐·期中)“I don’t like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry, ” said Zhang Hua, a middle school student in Zhengzhou. Do you have the same problem?

Passage 10
(24-25九年级上·辽宁沈阳·期中)阅读文本,然后根据内容回答问题。
Sometimes, kids don’t think their parents are fair to them. When you want to dress in a modern way, your mum won’t allow you to wear a mini-skirt. When you are making a phone call, they will ask who you’re speaking to. Those make teenagers unhappy, even less patient. Sometimes it seems that you’re not as close to your parents as you used to be. How can you change such a situation?
Both parents and children have needs. They need to feel they are important and loved. You should tell your parents your needs, and find out what their needs are. Maybe you can think of a way to make all of you happy.
When you think “my parents don’t want me to have any fun”, it usually means your parents want you to be safe. You can make time to talk. To get your parents to know what you’re doing and what you want to do, you could talk about your school life now and your dreams for the future. It helps your parents know more about you.
1.How do kids feel when their parents aren’t fair to them sometimes?
2.Who have needs to feel they are important and loved?
3.What can you do to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings?
