A
Scientists believe that more than 80% of life has not yet been discovered on earth. To show how surprising nature can be, we collected three of the strangest animals recently found.
The whitemargin stargazer (白边瞻星鱼) is a fish that likes to hang out on reef flats (礁石) and coastal bottoms. It is very rarely found because it stays buried under the sand with only its eyes showing. If it sounds creepy, that’s because it is. This hiding behavior is used to surprise small fish, which are quickly caught and eaten.
The coatimundi (长鼻浣熊) lives in the rainforest of Central and South America. It looks cute and soft, but don’t be fooled. It eats fruits, eggs, small animals like mice, and even trash from your garbage bin. While it may seem friendly, the coatimundi can become very aggressive if it feels scared. When that happens, it uses its sharp claws (爪子) and teeth to fight.
Babirusas (鹿豚), living in a very limited area that includes swamps and forests on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, are certainly not your ordinary pig. They are famous for their tusks, which begin growing inside the mouth and then pierce through the skin of the face. This unusual growth is thought to be caused by genes (基因) passed down over time.
6. Why does the whitemargin stargazer stay under the sand?
A. To look for beautiful stones.
B. To sleep and stay warm.
C. To surprise and catch small fish.
7. What do these three animals have in common?
A. How dangerous wild animals can be.
B. Some of the most surprising animals in nature.
C. The living habits of different animals in the wild.
8. Which picture most likely explains “aggressive”?
A. B. C.

Dear Haoyu,

Now that it is summer, how about treating yourself to some ice cream?
Many people think ice cream is modern Western food. In fact, it can date from the Tang Dynasty in China. Back then, it was not called ice cream; it was known as “Su Shan”.
“Su Shan” was made from milk, just like cream or butter. It was not only tasty but also healthy. It’s recorded that nomads (游牧民) from the north introduced it to central China.
According to some records, women often made “Su Shan”. They would heat “Su Shan” until it melted (融化) and then carefully pour it onto a plate, shaping it into the form of a mountain. Then they would put it in an icebox. Sometimes, they added sugar on top. They might also decorate the food with some flowers and leaves to make it look more beautiful.
The Tang poet Wang Lingran described how people enjoyed “Su Shan”. “It isn’t ice or water.” He wrote. “It disappears (消失) as soon as it touches your teeth.” In the painting Court Ladies, two ladies are holding “Su Shan”. At first, people thought they were holding potted plants (盆栽). When watching closely, they found it was something more like today’s ice cream, with flowers on top.
“Su Shan” was a popular dish during the Tang and Song Dynasties. However, only rich people and royalty (皇族) could pay for large iceboxes to prepare this summer treat.
Luckily, today, we can all enjoy ice cream whenever we want!
13. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Su Shan. B. Milk. C. Cream.
14. Which of the following lines may be from Wang Lingran?
15. What can we learn about “Su Shan” from the article?
A. It was tasty but not healthy.
B. Men usually made it at home.
C. People needed an icebox to make it.
16. Why does the writer mention “Su Shan” in the passage?
A. To show that ancient people had no interest in cold foods.
B. To introduce an early form of “ice cream” in ancient China.
C. To explain why ice cream is not popular in modern China.

Lisa wrote a blog post about her volunteering experience.
Last summer, I volunteered at Sunshine Nursing Home. At first, I felt nervous because I didn’t know how to talk to the elderly residents. Mrs. Chen, the activity director, taught me to be patient and listen carefully.
My favorite part was helping with the weekly music class. Many residents loved singing old songs, and their faces lit up when they recognized the melodies. Mr. Wang, a 90-year-old man, always requested the same folk song from his hometown. Though he couldn’t remember recent events, he remembered every word of that song!
This experience taught me the value of companionship. The residents didn’t need fancy gifts—they just wanted someone to spend time with them. Now I visit every month, and it has become the most rewarding part of my life.

13. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Su Shan. B. Milk. C. Cream.
14. Which of the following lines may be from Wang Lingran?
15. What can we learn about “Su Shan” from the article?

B. Men usually made it at home.
C. People needed an icebox to make it.
16. Why does the writer mention “Su Shan” in the passage?
A. To show that ancient people had no interest in cold foods.

A 14. C 15. C 16. B
原文第三段:“‘Su Shan’ was made from milk, just like cream or butter. It was not only tasty but also healthy.”,前句的主语是“Su Shan”,因此“it”指代“Su Shan”,而非牛奶或奶油。
原文第五段引用王泠然描写“酥山”的诗句:“It isn’t ice or water.”和“It disappears as soon as it touches your teeth.”,其触齿即化的特点。

17. Where did Lisa volunteer last summer?

18. What was Lisa’s favorite activity at the nursing home?

根据后文“drew the things outside”可知,她是“看”窗外,look out of the window为固定搭配。walked(走)、jumped(跳)均不符合“观察”的动作。
后文第五段提到“her little cat lying beside the flowers”,说明Billy是一只猫,故选A。rabbit(兔子)、dog(狗)均无依据。
singing(唱歌)、dancing(跳舞)均不符合主题。
sad(悲伤)和angry(生气)均不符合期待比赛的积极情绪。
Unlike(不像)是介词,此处需要副词,修饰整个句子;Unhappily(不高兴地)侧重情绪而非事件性质,均排除。
good(好)与语境相反;dry(干燥)不符合“水洒”的结果。
flower(花)和bag(包)均与绘画工具无关。
mum’s(妈妈的)和dad’s(爸爸的)均无上下文支持。
sun(太阳)、moon(月亮)均不符合前文提及的绘画内容。
his(他的)和it(它)指代错误。
with(和……一起)、from(来自)均不构成此搭配。
slowly(缓慢)和quietly(安静)均与紧张心跳不符。

touch(触摸)和find(发现)均不搭配。

until(直到)和but(但是)均不符合逻辑。
