For some of us, going to the dentist for routine check-ups is a thing of the ordinary. But for many people around the world, especially those in poverty-stricken areas, having dental improvement and their teeth checked simply isn’t possible. A Brazilian dentist named Felipe has devoted himself to helping change that situation.
Growing up in the USA, Felipe had just obtained the Bachelor of Medicine Degree and was about to start a master’s degree in Pediatric Dentistry (儿童口腔学) when a journey to his father’s home changed his initial plan. “All locals didn’t have access to dental care, and consequently, many of them suffered deformed teeth or even loss of teeth, leading to many people not daring to laugh with mouth open,” Felipe recalled. “A desire was planted in my heart. That is, to use my skills to bring healthy smiles to people suffering from dental problems.”
With the support of his parents, Felipe formed an NGO called Porsorriso to give free oral treatments to individuals with low incomes who require cleaning, fillings, restoration work and more. His team is composed of approximately 30 registered volunteers who go with him to poor towns and villages in Brazil.
Sponsorship is generally provided by two private companies. Individuals may also make donations through the “Smile Solidarity” program, where they can choose monthly amounts to contribute.
As noble as its objective is, Felipe admits that Porsorriso is “struggling to survive” because of the huge cost of providing dental work and the constant fundraising events they have to hold to keep the NGO in normal functioning. “Challenging as it is, it did bring healthy teeth as well as renewed confidence to the locals. We will continue this act whatever difficulties we will face,” Felipe said with a strong will.
24. How does the author begin the text?
A. By making an appeal. B. By presenting a contrast.
C. By reporting an event. D. By assuming a situation.
25. What led Felipe to offer dental treatments to Brazilians?
A. The support from his parents.
B. The strong passion for dental health.
C. The professional skills from college.
D. The sight of locals’ lacking dental care.

In Portugal, near the town of Alqueva, lies Europe’s largest artificial lake, home to an innovative floating solar-power plant developed by EDP, a leading renewable energy company. Despite initial doubt about the high costs and potential issues of floating solar technology, this project represents the sector’s maturation and readiness for expansion.
In this first phase of the project at Alqueva, engineers have stationed some 12,000 PV modules (光伏组件) on floating platforms made from partially recycled plastic and locally sourced soft wood. These are connected to an energy-storage system combining batteries and are integrated with the hydroelectric dam’s power station.
Floating solar projects do face plenty of challenges. The kit has to be water-resistant, which adds complexity and cost. The fish in lakes attract plenty of birds, whose droppings can block the sun. To deal with this, engineers for the project at Alqueva have developed remote-controlled cleaning robots and are working on autonomous ones.
Yet floating solar projects also enjoy several advantages. When located at existing hydroelectric dams they do not require any additional land and can be connected to the grid (电网) without the multi-year wait common for solar projects. The cooling effect of being on water boosts the efficiency of the modules, with studies suggesting gains of between 5% and 15% over land-based PV, while the shade they produce slows the water loss of the lake.
EDP views floating solar as a cornerstone of its renewable energy strategy. The initial 5 MW (兆瓦) capacity at Alqueva may seem modest, but it’s just the beginning. The company is planning a second phase, which will see an additional 70 MW capacity. According to Wood Mackenzie, a leading consultancy, floating solar technology could deliver up to 60,000 MW of renewable energy globally by 2031. “This may pale in comparison to the 1,600,000 MW of solar capacity as of last year. But every bit counts,” he added.
28. Which of the following best describes the EDP project?
A. It is well-received.
B. It can be expensive but eco-friendly.
C. It has already expanded.
D. It is disconnected from power station.
29. What can be learned about floating solar projects?
A. Engineers have developed auto cleaning robots.
B. The PV modules decrease the water level of the lake.
C. Floating solar projects demand less time for grid access.
D. Land-based PV modules are more productive than floating ones.
30. What might EDP agree with according to the last paragraph?
A. The project at Alqueva is an instant success.
B. 70 MW capacity will be added on a yearly basis.
C. The floating solar technology has a promising future.
D. The project produces the majority of global renewable power.
31. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Solar Power Vital for the World B. Floating Solar Ready to Shine
C. The Future of Renewable Energy D. A Look into Global Solar Farms
【答案】28. B 29. C 30. C 31. B

In designing the robots of tomorrow, engineers have gained many of their inspirations from the kingdom of creatures, with machines that mimic the way plants and animals move and sense their environment.
In a recent study, researchers at Cornell University have found that mycelia, the underground parts of mushrooms, have the ability to sense chemical and biological signals and respond to multiple inputs. By using the natural electrical signals of mycelia, the researchers found a new way to control biohybrid (生物混合) robots, which can react to their surroundings better than traditional man-made robots. With great efforts, two biohybrid robots were built: a soft robot shaped like a spider and a wheeled robot. The robots responded to mycelia’s signals by walking and rolling. They also changed their position in response to light, demonstrating the mycelia’s ability to react to outer influences.
However, finding a way to integrate mushrooms and robots requires more than just gardening and technical skills. “You have to have a background in mechanical engineering, electronics, some neurobiology (神经生物学), and even some kind of signal processing. All these fields come together to build this kind of system,” said Shepherd, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.
“Living systems respond to touch, light, heat and even some unknowns, like signals. This is why we believe that if we want to build future robots, they must be able to work in unexpected environments,” said Mishra, a research associate in the Organic Robotics Lab of Cornell University. “By growing mycelia into the electronics of a robot, we were able to allow the biohybrid machine to sense and respond to the environment. In this case we used light as the input, but in the future it will be chemical. The potential for future robots could be to sense soil chemistry in row crops and decide when to add more fertilizer,” said Shepherd.
32. What does the underlined word “mimic” mean in the first paragraph?
A. Copy. B. Decide. C. Change. D. Control.
33. Why are mycelia used in robot design?
A. For their mushroom shape.
B. For their biological influences.
C. For their chemical properties.
D. For their detection and response abilities.
34. What does Shepherd emphasize about the process in paragraph 3?
A. Technical abilities. B. Subject integration.
C. Creative application. D. Scientific approaches.
35. Which can be the potential application for future biohybrid robots?
A. Replacing human roles. B. Designing electronic systems.
C. Monitoring soil condition. D. Strengthening unknown signals.
【答案】32. A 33. D 34. B 35. C

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Hard work has been part of every winner’s journey towards the Nobel Prize. There are many examples. Françoise Barré-Sinoussi spent time in the lab on the morning of her wedding. After Michael Brown’s first daughter was born, he went straight back to discuss the next day’s experiments. Early-career scientists often ask winners about work-life balance. ____36____
Spend time with your family and friends. Many winners stress the value of maintaining personal relationships. Doctor Brian Kobilka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. ____37____ However, despite a heavy workload, he also made time for his family. As Brian Kobilka explains, family provides essential support.
Have a good night’s sleep. ____38____ It seems therefore to be appealing to finish work before these health-promoting activities. However, this is a trap Oliver Smithies advises against. Not only is sleep needed to stay fit, but your brain needs sleep to function at full capacity, so you can generate ideas and solve problems.
____39____ Family, work and sleep are all important to a scientist’s success. But they don’t all have to be a constant focus. Sometimes it will be important to avoid maintaining everything at a high level. Don’t be scared by the idea that you have to do everything perfectly at once; you can have a different focus at different times.
Don’t work too hard. Ultimately, working too hard won’t be beneficial. Not only do you risk burning yourself out, but you are also restricted in your thinking. Taking time away from work can allow you to approach problems in a new way. ____40____ Winners often point out that working long hours doesn’t always lead to efficiency.

根据后文“However, despite a heavy workload, he also made time for his family. As Brian Kobilka explains, family provides essential support.(然而,尽管工作繁忙,他仍抽出时间陪伴家人。正如布莱恩·科比尔卡所解释的那样,家庭提供了至关重要的支持。)”可知,该空前后围绕化学家Brian Kobilka的经历展开,F选项“He would moonlight in an emergency room as well as work in the lab.(他既要在实验室工作,还要在急诊室兼职。)”补充了他的繁重工作状态,和后文“尽管工作量大仍留出时间陪家人”形成转折呼应。

Don’t be scared by the idea that you have to do everything perfectly at once; you can have a different focus at different times.(有时,避免将所有事情都维持在高水准是很重要的。不要被“你必须一次性把所有事都做到完美”的想法吓到;你可以在不同时段有不同的侧重点。)”提到“不同时段可以有不同的侧重,不必同时把所有事做到完美”,C选项“Focus on different aspects of your life.(关注生活的不同方面。)”精准概括了段落核心内容,可作为主旨句。
【40题详解】
前文“Taking time away from work can allow you to approach problems in a new way.(暂时离开工作,能让你以全新的方式面对问题。)”提到从工作中抽离能让你用新方式处理问题,G选项“A walk, for instance, allows you to step back and gain new perspectives.(比如散步能让你抽身事外,获得新视角。)”通过举例进一步佐证了前文的观点,因此符合语境。

My Views on Skipping Breakfast
Good morning, everyone. Today, I want to talk about the issue of some students skipping breakfast. Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day, as it provides essential energy and nutrients needed for our minds and bodies to function well. Skipping breakfast can lead to difficulties in concentrating in class and may even affect our overall health. Therefore, I encourage all students to make time for breakfast.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A few years ago, if you asked me about exercise, I would laugh. My gym routine involved awkwardly using machines I didn’t understand, followed by quick escapes to avoid breaking a sweat. I even convinced trainers to cut sessions short for coffee breaks! Exercise felt like a burden until life threw an unexpected challenge my way.
Feeling stressed and needing a way to relax, I decided to give fitness another go. Science says exercise releases “feel-good” chemicals, right? But I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I needed a friend or coach to push me. That’s how I met Adria, the owner of a local training studio.
Adria didn’t accept excuses. If I skipped class, she’d text: “What’s your plan this week?” Her insistence kept me committed. Over time, I noticed changes not just physically, but in my confidence and mood. The gym turned from a place of fear to one of joy.
Then came a surprising turn. One day, exhausted from running her gym on her own, Adria joked, “I wish YOU could take over sometimes!” Me? A trainer? Impossible! I hadn’t studied in years, and my job centered around reading, not fitness. But her trust planted a seed.
Curiosity led me to research qualifications. I learned it would take three to six months of reading texts, analyzing charts, and watching videos, as well as online activities and listening to the provided podcasts. I sat with it for weeks and then went online and signed up for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) course.
At first, I didn’t tell anyone about this, but about two months in, I told my family what I had been doing during the evenings when I was home alone. l am so grateful to my son; every time I came up with excuses for why I couldn’t do it and why I thought I wouldn’t pass, he reminded me of the hours I spent quizzing him with flashcards for his medical exam. I was his biggest cheerleader on his way to becoming a doctor, and now here he was quizzing me with flashcards, cheering me on and keeping me positive.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The final exam was incredibly intense.

The first time I taught a class alone, my hands were shaking.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The final exam was incredibly intense. The moment I sat down, my mind suddenly went blank and I felt a wave of panic. As I worked through the questions, I kept reminding myself of the support I had received from my son and Adria. Their encouragement kept coming back to me, giving me the strength to push through. After what seemed ages, I submitted my answers. When the result was announced, I was overjoyed to see that I had passed. All the hard work had paid off.
The first time I taught a class alone, my hands were shaking. Despite my preparation beforehand, leading a class was totally different. As I patiently explained the exercises, I noticed the trust in my students’ eyes, the same trust Adria had shown me before. Taking a deep breath, I calmed down and focused on sharing what I had learned. Gradually, my confidence grew. By the end of the class, I experienced a newfound sense of accomplishment and realized I had become a source of inspiration to others, just like Adria had been to me.

At least by the end of the day, I know i'm good at something which makes me feel Better about myself. So do they boost yourself confidence? No, it's not about that. It's more about the feeling of being good at something. Plus, studies have shown that some games can be educational or help develop skills. Interestingly, doctors who play video games are actually Better at using modern Operation tools than those who don't HMM. That's interesting. Maybe i'll check if my doctor is a gamer before I book that surgery. 听第十段材料,回答第17至20题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。Text ten um finding a flat can be time consuming and frustrating, but with some preparation and most importantly, a lot of patients, you will eventually find the right start by making time in your schedule.
26. Which of the following best describes Felipe?
A. Charitable and committed. B. Faithful and ambitious.
C. Hopeful and hardworking. D. Intelligent and creative.
27. What do we learn about Porsorriso?
A. It offers dental care lectures regularly.
B. It gives free treatments to people in need.
C. It is funded by corporations and individuals.
D. It is cooperated by Felipe and the local authority.

A. Their answers can be inspirational.
B. My solutions might be of some help.
C. Focus on different aspects of your life.
D. Never hesitate to rise to challenge that life throws at you.
E. Sleep, exercise and eating well can conflict with working long.
F. He would moonlight in an emergency room as well as work in the lab.
G. A walk, for instance, allows you to step back and gain new perspectives.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
