When Wang Qingjie first came to Guangzhou in 2015, he was amazed first by the city’s beautiful trees. In 2016, he joined a tree climbing workshop. Since then, he has become a professional tree climber. He is now certified (认证的) by the International Society of Arboriculture.
“A tree climber’s main jobs are pruning (修剪) and removing branches,” said Wang, who is 38 years old and comes from Henan province. “But many people don’t know that climbers are also responsible for the natural conditions and living space for trees and the animals living in them. For example, they may climb up to see birds building nests or laying eggs,” he added.
Trees that live in cities grow many dead branches every year. If people do not cut them, strong winds can break them off and hurt people walking below. Pruning also helps keep the tree’s shape nice and beautiful. With professional tools, Wang can climb up quickly to the treetop and move around freely among the branches. Wang explained, “In one year, we should not prune more than a quarter of a tree’s leaves. If we prune too much, the tree cannot make enough energy.”
In cities, space is limited. A falling branch can be dangerous to nearby buildings or people. To control how branches come down, they use ropes and pulleys (滑轮) to lower branches exactly onto a safe place. “Tree pruning needs strong teamwork, which is key to pruning work,” Wang said. “A pruning team has at least three to five workers. One climber cuts the branches up in the tree, and the other people on the ground help lower the branches to a safe spot.”
As a tree lover, Wang believes that every tree has its own life. Trees give us oxygen, carry the memories of city residents, and are very important for city life. In 2017, he started his own company, aiming to offer tree pruning services and tree climbing training. “By running training courses, I hope more people will learn about the tree climbing industry. This industry is still very new in China,” he said.
4. What first impressed Wang in Guangzhou?
A. The diverse cultures. B. The job of pruning trees.
C. The city’s attractive greenery. D. The tree climbing workshop.
5. What is a less-known duty of tree climbers?
A. Cutting dead branches. B. Watching the tree environment.
C. Keeping trees in shape. D. Removing falling branches safely.
6. What matters most in tree pruning according to Wang?
A. Strong team effort. B. Professional tools.
C. Daily practice. D. Special cutting methods.
7. What is Wang’s purpose of setting up his own company?
A. To offer jobs to city residents. B. To increase personal income.
C. To train more bird protectors. D. To promote the tree climbing industry.
C 5. B 6. A 7. D

Since the Middle Ages, classical music has developed from oral traditions to written scores. Great works like Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 have lasted forever. But a modern question — born with AI that creates new things (GenAI) — is: will the 21st century bring a musical creator that touches human emotions without being human?
Musicians and scientists at the University of California, San Diego, are exploring this area. Led by Professor Shlomo Dubnov, the team wants to find out what makes music meaningful. They teach AI not just to copy styles but to create original works. Early AI tools could copy music types or finish incomplete pieces. Today’s models like Suno produce complete songs from text instructions in seconds, mixing singing, instruments, and harmonies.
AI’s influence on music has two sides. On one hand, it makes creation available to more people. A teenager with no training can write a pop song; a filmmaker can make movie music in hours. It helps professionals too: composers use AI to create music, while producers improve tracks with AI tools. This opens music to millions who once faced big difficulties.
On the other hand, critics (评论家) worry. Some say AI weakens art’s true value — can a machine really feel emotions, or just copy them? Copyright (版权) problems are common: who owns an AI-written song trained on copyrighted works? Many musicians fear losing jobs as studios turn to low-cost AI content.
A 2025 study found AI helps most users, especially beginners, become more creative. But experts warn against over-dependence. “AI is a tool, not a replacement,” says Dubnov. “The best music still comes from human stories.”
As AI develops, the music industry must choose: accept it as a partner or fight it as a threat. AI has already changed music’s rules, and the next great work may come from a team of humans and AI.
8. What can Suno do according to paragraph 2?
A. Create songs quickly from text instructions.
B. Teach beginners to play instruments.
C. Write works as great as Beethoven’s.
D. Solve copyright problems in music.
9. Why do some musicians worry about AI’s influence?
A. AI makes music less creative. B. All AI music sounds the same.
C. AI cannot feel human emotions. D. AI could threaten their jobs.
10. Which of the following would Professor Dubnov most likely agree with?
A. AI will replace human musicians.
B. AI should be a helper in music creation.
C. Beginners need AI to create music.
D. Technology matters more than human stories.
11. What is the main idea of the text?
A. The development of AI music tools.
B. How AI helps young music makers.
C. Two-sided effects of AI on music and its future.
D. Why copyright problems appear in AI music.
A 9. D 10. B 11. C
根据第二段“Today’s models like Suno produce complete songs from text instructions in seconds, mixing singing, instruments, and harmonies.(如今像Suno这样的模型,能在几秒内根据文字指令生成完整的歌曲,融合演唱、乐器和和声。)”
根据倒数第三段“Many musicians fear losing jobs as studios turn to low-cost AI content.(许多音乐人担心会失去工作,因为录音室正转向低成本的人工智能内容。)”
根据倒数第二段“But experts warn against over-dependence. “AI is a tool, not a replacement,” says Dubnov. “The best music still comes from human stories.”(但专家警告不要过度依赖。“人工智能是一种工具,而非替代品,”Dubnov表示,“最优秀的音乐仍然来自人类的故事。”)”可知,Professor Dubnov可能会认同人工智能应作为音乐创作的辅助工具。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“As AI develops, the music industry must choose: accept it as a partner or fight it as a threat. AI has already changed music’s rules, and the next great work may come from a team of humans and AI.(随着人工智能的发展,音乐产业必须做出选择:是将其视为合作伙伴,还是视作威胁。人工智能已经改变了音乐的规则,而下一个伟大的作品或许将来自人类与人工智能的协作团队。)”可知,本文主要介绍生成式 AI 音乐技术的发展,辩证分析 AI 给音乐带来的利弊:它降低创作门槛、助力大众与专业人士创作,但也引发艺术价值、版权、就业等争议;专家认为 AI 仅是辅助工具,未来音乐创作会走向人机协作的新模式,因此本文的主旨是人工智能对音乐及其未来的双向影响。

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover (探测器) has made an important new discovery: a rock sample (样本) that may contain signs of ancient tiny life forms. The sample, taken from Jezero Crater’s old riverbed, could give the first clear evidence of life outside Earth.
The rock, named “Cheyava Falls”, was found in an area that scientists believe was once a fast-moving river plain billions of years ago. Such places are thought to be very good for preserving signs of life — shapes or materials that show life once existed. The sample has unusual natural particles (微粒) and special rock formations that are very similar to those made by tiny living things on Earth.
“These findings are very promising,” said Dr. David Parker, NASA’s top expert on space life. “This is the strongest sign we have ever found for possible life on Mars. We are not making any certain statements yet, but this sample has all the features we look for.”
Perseverance, which landed on Mars in 2021, has been carefully collecting samples from rock pieces and keeping them to bring back to Earth in the future. The “Sapphire Canyon” sample (collected from the rock “Cheyava Falls”) will be one of the first to be brought back by a joint NASA-ESA project planned for the late 2030s. After being studied in Earth’s labs, scientists hope to find out whether these formations are truly from living things.
This discovery matches more and more evidence that old Mars was much more suitable for life than we used to think. Recent studies have shown long-lasting lakes, sediments (沉淀物) rich in natural materials, and a thicker atmosphere that could have supported early life.
However, scientists are not rushing to conclusions (结论). Processes not related to life can sometimes make similar formations. “We must eliminate all other ideas before saying life existed,” Dr. Parker stressed. Bringing the sample back to Earth will be a long and difficult task, but it may finally answer one of humanity’s oldest questions: Are we alone in the universe?
12. What do we know about “Cheyava Falls”?
A. It was formed by Mars life.
B. It’s the first sample to return.
C. It has already been tested on Earth.
D. It was discovered in an ancient river area.
13. What can be inferred from Dr. David Parker’s words in paragraph 3?
A. Life on Mars has been proven.
B. The sample’s origin remains unclear.
C. Non-life processes cannot form such rocks.
D. The sample will be studied at once.
14. What does the underlined word “eliminate” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
A. Write down. B. Depend on. C. Clear away. D. Put forward.
15. What is the scientists’ attitude toward the Martian sample discovery?
A. Hopeful but careful. B. Excited but doubtful.
C. Proud and confident. D. Cold and unconcerned.
D 13. B 14. C 15. A

根据第二段“The rock, named “Cheyava Falls”, was found in an area that scientists believe was once a fast-moving river plain billions of years ago.(这块名为“切亚瓦瀑布”的岩石,是在科学家认为数十亿年前曾是一片快速流动的河流平原的区域发现的)”可知,“Cheyava Falls”是在一片古老的河流区域被发现的。
根据第三段“This is the strongest sign we have ever found for possible life on Mars. We are not making any certain statements yet, but this sample has all the features we look for.(这是我们迄今为止发现的关于火星上可能存在生命最强有力的证据。我们目前尚未做出任何肯定性声明,但这一样本具备了我们所寻找的所有特征)”可知,从Dr. David Parker的话中我们可以推断出样本的来源仍不清楚。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据最后一段“However, scientists are not rushing to conclusions (结论). Processes not related to life can sometimes make similar formations.(然而,科学家们并不急于下结论。一些与生命无关的过程有时也会形成类似的结构)”可知,科学家不急于下结论,说明他们要在宣称生命存在之前排除所有其他可能性,eliminate的意思是“排除,去除”,和clear away意思相近。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““These findings are very promising,” said Dr. David Parker, NASA’s top expert on space life. “This is the strongest sign we have ever found for possible life on Mars. We are not making any certain statements yet, but this sample has all the features we look for.”(“这些发现极具前景,”美国国家航空航天局(NASA)顶尖太空生命专家大卫·帕克博士表示,“这是我们迄今为止在火星上发现的可能存在生命的最有力迹象。我们目前还不能给出任何定论,但这份样本具备我们所探寻的全部特征。”)”可知,科学家对火星样本发现的态度是满怀希望但谨慎。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
People often say my play looks effortless, and they mean it as a compliment (恭维). But it hurts me when they say, “Is he even trying?” ____16____. The truth is, I worked very hard to make it look easy. Later, I learned to stay calm.
Early in my professional life, a competitor told me, “Roger will be the favourite for the first two hours, and then I’ll be the favourite after that.” ____17____. Then I understood: everyone can play well for two hours — you’re fit, fast, and clear-headed. But after two hours, your legs weaken, your mind cannot stay focused, and you lose concentration. That realization made me see how much work I still had to do. So I started to train much harder, especially when no one was watching.
____18____. They saw my casual (随意的) warm-ups and thought I depended purely on talent. But I had already done the hard work before the competition — alone, early in the morning, or after everyone else had left. “Effortless” is a myth (神话). ____19____. Instead, I succeeded by working harder than my competitors. Self-belief was earned.
By 2003, that self-belief had grown. At the ATP finals, I beat top players by aiming at their strengths — something I would never have done before. In the past, if a player had a strong forehand, I would avoid it and hit to his backhand. Now I went right after his forehand. I tried to beat baseliners from the baseline, attackers by attacking, and net rushers from the net. Why? To build various strengths. If one approach fails, you have others. ____20____.
A. I was puzzled at first
B. I did not succeed on talent alone
C. I became grateful because they made me work harder
D. I used to get angry and say bad words when hearing that
E. When your game works like that, winning becomes easy
F. They seem to get A after A without trying, while you study all night
G. Many people simply fail to see my endless hard work behind the scenes
D 17. A 18. G 19. B 20. E
前文“But it hurts me when they say, “Is he even trying?”(但当他们说“他真的在努力吗?”时,我却感到受伤。)”提到旁人说“他有在认真打吗?”的评价让自己很受伤,后文“Later, I learned to stay calm.(后来,我学会了保持冷静。)”说明作者后来学会了冷静,D选项“I used to get angry and say bad words when hearing that(过去听到这些话时,我会生气,还会说脏话 )”精准对应“过去听到这类评价会生气失态”的过往状态,和后文的心态转变形成顺承对比,逻辑完全衔接。
【17题详解】
前文“Roger will be the favourite for the first two hours, and then I’ll be the favourite after that.(罗杰在前两个小时是最被看好的获胜者,之后我就会是更有希望赢的那个。)”是对手说“前两小时罗杰占优,之后优势会转到我这边”的陌生论断,后文“Then I understood: everyone can play well for two hours — you’re fit, fast, and clear-headed.(然后我明白了:每个人在两小时内都能表现得不错——你身体素质好,反应快,头脑清晰。)”
后文“They saw my casual (随意的) warm-ups and thought I depended purely on talent.(他们看了我随意的热身动作,以为我完全靠天赋。)”
点明“毫不费力只是一个神话”,后文“Instead, I succeeded by working harder than my competitors.
前文“I tried to beat baseliners from the baseline, attackers by attacking, and net rushers from the net. Why? To build various strengths. If one approach fails, you have others.(我尝试在底线击败底线型选手,用进攻击败进攻型选手,在网前击败上网型选手。为什么?为了建立不同的优势。如果一种方法失败,你就有其他方法可用。)”介绍作者刻意打磨多元打法,即便一种战术失效也有其他方案兜底,E选项“When your game works like that, winning becomes easy(当你的比赛如此运作时,胜利便变得容易 )”顺承说明“当你的球技体系达到这种状态时,赢球自然会变得轻松”,收束本段关于多元战术优势的论述,逻辑闭环完整。

【答案】范文
Should Students Play Online Games?
Recently, a survey on whether students should play online games during vacations was conducted in our school. The results show that 55% of the students are in favor, while 45% are against the idea.
Those who support online games believe they can improve reaction skills, enhance teamwork, and enrich leisure time. On the other hand, opponents argue that online games may lead to addiction, which harms health, takes up too much time, and brings online security risks.
In my opinion, online games are not simply good or bad. The key lies in self-control. If we play them properly without losing focus on our studies, we can enjoy their benefits and avoid the disadvantages.

The sun was shining brightly over the neighbourhood on a lazy Sunday afternoon. A gentle wind carried the smell of freshly cut grass from nearby gardens. Linda stood by the window, looking at her own lawn (草坪). The grass had grown wild and messy over the past week. She sighed.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
“Linda! Come out! It’s time for football!” shouted Grace excitedly. Daisy stood beside her, holding a colorful ball under her arm.
“We’ve been waiting all week for today!” Daisy added with a big smile. “The park is going to be perfect. Everyone else will be there soon!”
Linda bit her lip. Her heart jumped at the thought of running on the green field with her friends. But then she looked back at the long grass in her garden. Her stomach felt heavy.
“I... I can’t go,” she said quietly.
“What? Why not?” Grace’s smile disappeared. “We had a promise!”
Linda took a deep breath. “My mom is away on a business trip. She asked me to take care of the lawn. I promised her I would do it.”
Daisy looked at the overgrown grass. “But that’s a lot of work! It will take you hours. By then, the sun will be down.”
“I know,” Linda said, her eyes becoming watery. “I really want to play with you. But I can’t break my promise to my mom. She’s working hard, and I need to be responsible.”
Linda stood there, torn between the laughter of the park and the duty in her yard.
“You two go ahead,” Linda said with a weak smile. “I’ll stay and work.”
Daisy was quiet for a few seconds.

Then Daisy’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Wait a minute!” she said. “We can do it together. I can also call Tom, Ben, and Sara! With more people, the work will be done in no time. Then we can still go to the park!” Linda’s eyes widened. “Really? You would do that for me?” “Of course!” Grace laughed. “That’s what friends are for. Let’s do it together.” Daisy called all their best friends and told them what was going on. All the friends were happy to help.
Within fifteen minutes, three more friends arrived, carrying tools. They laughed as they pulled out weeds and picked up fallen leaves. Daisy started singing, and soon everyone joined in. The sun painted the sky gold and orange as they worked. Soon the lawn looked neat and fresh. Linda hugged each of them, her heart filled with warmth. “Thank you,” she whispered. “You saved my day.” “Then let’s go and save the ball game!” shouted Daisy, and everyone ran toward the park, their shadows long in the setting sun. That day, Linda learned that true friendship is not just about sharing joy, but about carrying burdens together.
