三、阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,共30分)
A
Can you imagine a world without fire, where food can’t be cooked and there is no way to stay warm in winter? In ancient times, our ancestors lived under such conditions.
Back then, people didn’t know that there was fire, let alone how to use it. When night fell, it was as black as a hole, and the cries of wild animals could be heard in the air. People had to stay close together, cold and scared. Without fire, they had to eat raw (生的) food, which often made them ill, leading to early deaths.
This is the point in the story when Suiren appears. Ancient texts show that there was once a place called Suiming, where people didn’t know about the change of seasons or the difference between day and night. In that land, a huge tree called the Sui Wood grew widely.
Much later, a wise man visited the land and rested under the tree. Suddenly, a large bird pecked at the tree, and bright fires broke out. After seeing what the bird did, the man took a small branch (树枝) and drilled it to make fire. From then on, he was known as Suiren.
Suiren became the first person to create fire in ancient China, teaching people to cook food, ending the age of eating raw meat. This made humans different from animals and he is honored as the “Fire Ancestor”. Every year, different kinds of events related to fire culture are held to honor the great man. Most people think fast delivery (快递) is new, but it’s actually very old. As early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties (商周时期), governments already had a way to send orders and news. This way was called yizhan. It was most developed in the Tang dynasty and continued to be used for hundreds of years.
The yizhan was built to help pass documents far and fast. Riders would stop at these places to change horses or rest. Sometimes, they passed the messages to the next rider. Because of this, news, food, and even money for the emperors could travel quickly across the land.
The yizhan was also built in a very ingenious way. These places were about 30 kilometers from each other. That was just right for a horse to go without stopping. Each place usually had houses for horses, rooms to keep things, kitchens, and beds for riders. Bigger places could hold many people and even had offices. Some had tall towers or flags so people could see them easily.
Later, the yizhan took on more new roles. When the Mongols (蒙古人) ruled, it also helped foreign officers and official visitors who came for work. This way helped the government, business, and the sharing of culture. Even the famous traveler Marco Polo said it worked very well.
Today, our post offices and ways to communicate still learn from this old idea. Keeping people in touch helped ancient China develop and it still helps us now.

On December 15th, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced some exciting news. Two new car models, developed by Chinese companies and equipped with Level 3 (L3) autonomous (自动驾驶的) driving technology, have been approved for road use. This is a key step for China’s smart car industry. It pushes the country closer to the era of practical self-driving travel.
What is L3 autonomous driving? It is also called “conditional automation”. This means the car can complete most driving tasks in specific situations. On highways or fast city roads, the car can drive by itself. It can handle steering (转向), speeding up, slowing down, and even avoiding small obstacles (障碍物). The driver does not need to watch the road all the time. However, he or she must stay ready to take over. For example, if an animal suddenly crosses the road, the car will warn the driver. The driver then has 10 seconds to take back control. This approval is a significant milestone (里程碑) for the commercial (商业的) use of autonomous driving technology in China. Before this, most smart cars on the market had Level 2 (L2) driving assistance systems. These systems could only provide basic help. For instance, they can warn the driver if the car drifts out of its lane, or automatically brake (刹车) to avoid collisions (碰撞). But the driver still needed to control the car at all times. Now, L3 cars can take full control in specific areas. This means China has officially entered the stage of “conditional self-driving” commercial trials (试验). It also shows that China’s smart car technology is now among the world’s leading levels.
Experts say L3 technology can make driving safer, since most car accidents are caused by human mistakes. But we should remember that L3 is not “full self-driving”. The driver must always be ready to take control! As the technology improves, self-driving cars may one day make our trips more convenient and safe, changing the way people travel in the future.
( ) 31. Which of the following driving tasks can a Level 3 (L3) car NOT perform by itself?
A. Accelerating and slowing down on a highway.
B. Steering to stay in the correct lane.
C. Avoiding a small rock on a fast city road.
D. Completing all tasks in specific situations.
( ) 32. What does the underlined phrase “take over” in Paragraph 2 most likely mean in the context?
A. To buy the car.
B. To repair the car.
C. To stop the car completely.
D. To start driving the car manually (手动地).
( ) 33. What is the writer’s attitude towards the self-driving cars in the future?
A. Doubtful. B. Worried. C. Supportive. D. Surprised.
( ) 34. How is L3 different from L2 according to the passage?
A. L2 systems can avoid obstacles automatically.
B. L3 cars require the driver to control the car all the time.
C. L3 can take full control in specific situations.
D. L2 is a type of full self-driving technology.
( ) 35. Which is the best title for this passage?
A. The History of Self-Driving Cars in China
B. New Stage with Approved L3 Autonomous Cars
C. Ways to Drive a Level 3 Autonomous Vehicle
D. Difference between Autonomous Driving and Human Driving
