The Person I Admire Most
When it comes to the person I admire the most, I can’t help thinking of Fan Jinshi who is an archaeologist and a guard of Dunhuang.
After graduating from Peking University, Fan Jinshi chose to work in Mogao Caves, Dunhuang, which lies deep in the Gobi Desert. Although the living environment was terrible, she was deeply attracted by the works of art and desired to protect them for the future generations. She and her team overcame difficulties, explored scientific concepts and built a “digital Dunhuang”, which has balanced the relationship between cultural relics protection and tourism.
Fan Jinshi is called the daughter of Dunhuang. She deserves the respect of all at home and abroad.

The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?” Lisa and I looked at each other. We couldn’t believe such a little boy would care. Though we didn’t believe it, we said “yes”. The boy put his hand in his pocket and took out some fivedollar bills. He said, “I just asked for them from my mother. I really want to help the children suffering from cancer. ”
Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. We thanked the boy, but he left soon. Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged. We wanted to try harder to raise money. So instead of just standing there, we went to people and told them about our programme. At the end of the day, we raised over three thousand dollars, a lot more than Lisa and I had expected in the beginning.
①看着:look at/see/stare at
②感谢:thank/express gratitude
③努力做:try to do/attempt to do/spare no effort to do
①高兴地:happily/joyfully/delightedly
②感动的:touched/moved
③深受鼓舞的:encouraged/inspired
1】Though we didn’t believe it, we said “yes”.
2】Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged.

Zhang Xue is a key figure in China’s motorcycle industry. He founded ZXMOTO, a Chinese motorcycle brand that made history in 2026 by winning two straight races(竞赛) at the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) . His journey is a true dark horse story.
Born in 1987 in a poor mountain village in Hunan Province, Zhang dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a repair shop apprentice (学徒). He learned engines by taking them apart with his own hands. At 19, eager to prove himself, he went after a TV crew’s car for over 100 kilometers through heavy rain on a broken motorcycle. The crew laughed at him, but his courage earned him a spot on TV. That led to a job as a rider and mechanic.
Realizing that it’s too late to become the best rider(车手), Zhang changed his goal. “If I cannot ride the fastest bike, I will build one.”, he said. In 2013, he arrived in Chongqing with only 20,000 yuan , bought parts, and built his first bike. In 2017 he co-founded Kove Moto, which grew into a major brand. But in 2024, after parting ways with Kove, he started ZXMOTO — his own company, named after his name.
Zhang’s years of devotion (专心) to motorcycle engineering has finally borne fruit. In March 2026, French rider Valentin Debise rode the ZXMOTO 820RR-RS to two straight wins at WSBK, beating Ducati and Yamaha by nearly four seconds — the first ever race wins for a Chinese manufacturer. Watching from the sidelines, Zhang was moved to tears.
Today, ZXMOTO is valued at over one billion yuan. Zhang once said, “The world had no impression of Chinese motorcycles. Now they will remember us.” His story — from a motorcycle apprentice to a pioneer of Chinese motorsports — proves that passion and persistence can move mountains.
24.What achievement has Zhang Xue made?
A.He created the most popular motorcycle. B.He became the successful rider .
C.He built the cheapest motorcycle. D.He led a Chinese brand to win WSBK races.
25.What was Zhang’s goal at first?
A.To set up a top motorbike brand. B.To build the fastest motorbike.
C.To work as a motorbike apprentice. D.To become a top motorbike rider.
26.Which can best describe Zhang Xue?
A.Courageous and determined. B.Creative and generous.
C.Cautious and careful. D.Ambitious and outgoing.
27.Which saying best matches Zhang Xue’s story?
A. Seeing is believing.
B.Practice makes perfect.
C. Failure is the mother of success.
D. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Tea has always brought comfort to people on Earth. Now, scientists are asking a new question: Could we grow tea on the Moon? A recent study by the University of Kent shows that tea plants might actually survive in lunar soil(月球土壤). This offers hope for future astronauts who will live and work on the Moon.
Working with tea experts and space groups, researchers planted young tea bushes in soil made to look like the Moon’s surface. They carefully controlled light, temperature, and water. Another group of plants grew in normal Earth soil for comparison. Surprisingly, after several weeks, the tea plants in the “moon soil” grew just as well as those on Earth. However, plants in soil made to look like Mars did not grow at all. Students measured root length, leaf health, and soil conditions, suggesting that lunar ground may be not worse than expected.
The idea began when a space scientist heard about farming research. He worked with tea farmers to provide plants for the test. While the main goal is to help space travel, the findings could also help farmers on Earth. Many places today face poor soil because of climate change and over-farming. Learning how plants survive in hard, low-nutrient (低营养的)conditions might lead to new ways to protect crops here at home.
Professor Nigel Mason explained that as humans plan to build bases on the Moon, knowing what people can eat is very important. Growing tea in lunar greenhouses could give settlers fresh food and a taste of home.
He added that the team’s next step is to learn exactly how the plants manage to grow in these extreme conditions. This knowledge could then be used to help other crops grow, both in space and back on our planet. It seems that the idea of a quiet tea break could one day be a small but important part of life on the moon.
28.What did the study by the University of Kent find?
A.Tea plants grew better in moon soil. B.Tea plants cannot grow in moon soil.
C.Mars soil is better for growing plants. D.Moon soil can support tea plant growth.
29.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. Researchers found Mars soil is totally unsuitable for all plants.
B. A controlled experiment proved tea plants can grow well in simulated lunar soil.
C. Scientists measured many plant data to improve farming on the Moon.
D. It is easy to create soil environments similar to the Moon and Mars.
30.What is the main purpose of growing tea in moon-like soil?
A.To test if tea tastes better in space. B.To compare with plants in Mars soil.
C.To help future astronauts live on the moon. D.To find new ways to grow tea plants on Earth.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Astronauts prefer tea to other drinks in space.
B.Growing food on the moon is still impossible.
C.Tea breaks will soon be common on the moon.
D.Scientists will study how plants survive in tough environment.

Blind boxes, also called mystery boxes, have become very popular in recent years, especially among online shoppers. People are interested in them because no one knows what is inside until they open the box. The surprise and excitement make blind boxes a popular fashion.
What are blind boxes exactly? They are packages with different things inside. Buyers can’t see these things before opening. You can buy them online or in stores, and they have many kinds, such as beauty products, clothes, games or food. The price of each box is fixed, but the value of the inside things is different- it’s like a game of luck. Why do people love them? It’s because surprise makes our brains produce dopamine (多巴胺),a material that makes us feel happy. Also, the fear of missing out (FOMO) is another factor that drives people to buy blind boxes, as they do not want to miss out on the chance of receiving a special or rare thing.
However, buying blind boxes has risks. First, you may get things you don’t like or don’t need. Second, some blind boxes have low-quality or fake (虚假的) products, which is a waste of money. So, before buying, you should check the seller’s information and read other buyers’ comments to make sure the box is worth the price.
If you think the risks are too big, there are better choices. One alternative is subscription (订制) boxes. They are similar to blind boxes, but you can choose the kind you like. 67.
I was a volunteer for an organisation at the beginning of this year. The organisation is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event.
Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organisation, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a bit hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset.
Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, “I don’t think we can raise much money today. ”
“Don’t worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left,” I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise much money that day.
While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading.
After a while, he asked, “What is cancer?”
I explained what cancer is. Then I said, “Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That’s why we’re collecting money for it. ”
“Do children suffer from cancer, too?” asked the boy.
“Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help. ” Lisa said and I nodded.
Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, “How much money have you collected?”
Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn’t raise much money. At last, we said, “Not much. ”
The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few onedollar and fivedollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return.
The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?”
