第一节(满分15分)【参考范文】
Nowadays, safety is very important for us. How can we keep safe? In the English class, we had a discussion in groups. Here is the result of my group. First, we should obey the traffic rules. Second, we should eat healthy food and we’d better note at any junk food. Third, we mustn’t go swimming in the rivers without an adult, although we are good at swimming. Fourth, we shouldn’t hang out alone at night and we should go back home as early as possible. And finally, we are not allowed to chat with strangers online.
All in all, we can never be too careful when it comes to safety. Without safety, we can do nothing. Let’s stay safe at any time.

A dad from Texas didn't miss a beat when it came to supporting his daughter recently.Cecelia
Simmons shared a video of her husband,Andre Simmons, dancing in the stands while their daughter
Jazlyn and her Temple High School cheer team performed. In the video,as the cheer team members
raise the small balls and go through their routine,Andre Simmons follows right along, nailing the
moves right alongside them.
The post shared on social media has obtained over 312,000 views. With tens of thousands of
overwhelmingly positive comments on his post, people online quickly shared their reactions. They
recommended Andre Simmons as "Cheer Dad of the Year"or applauded his energy and spot-on
moves.Simmons himself was quick to say he's not the best dancer and it took him a few days to
learn the routine."Once I got it down pat,I just jumped up there when I heard the band finally bring
the song up and I got up there and did it with her,"he said.
But the father of five said he persisted because he wanted to create a lifelong memory with
his girl Jazlyn, mostly because he was constantly away for work, thereby affording limited
opportunities to be in the company of her."Since she made the cheer team, that was my way of
supporting her and kind of relieving the guilt of the lost time. She thought I was doing things that
she loved and surprising her with joining her in the cheer during the football game,"Simmons said.
Simmons said Jazlyn and her cheer team friends were surprised and "absolutely loved"that
he could join in on the fun.The proud dad said it meant"the world"to him to be able to be there for
his daughter too."I love to try to be a super dad when I'm here and create those lifelong memories
and it's something for us to look back on and enjoy together,"he said and planned on cheering some
more and making more memories with Jazlyn.

A new attempt to predict earthquakes with the aid of artificial intelligence (AI)has raised
hopes that the technology could one day be used to limit earthquakes'impact on lives and
economies.Developed by researchers at The University of Texas at Austin, the AI algorithm
correctly predicted 70%of earthquakes a week before they happened during a seven-month trial in
China.
The AI was trained to find unusual patterns in real-time seismic data that researchers had
paired with the data of previous earthquakes. The outcome was a weekly forecast in which the AI
successfully predicted 14 earthquakes within about 200 miles of where it estimated they would
happen and at almost exactly the calculated strength. It missed one earthquake and gave eight false
warnings.
It's not yet known if the same approach will work at other locations, but the effort is a
significant achievement in research for AI-driven earthquake forecasting
"Predicting earthquakes is the ultimate goal,"said a professor, who is a member of the
research team."We're not yet close to making predictions for anywhere in the world, but what we
achieved tells us that what we thought was an impossible problem is solvable in principle."
The researchers said that their method had succeeded by following a relatively simple
machine learning approach. The AI was given a set of statistical features based on the team's
knowledge of earthquake physics, then told to train itself on a five-year database of seismic
recordings.Once trained, the AI gave its forecast by listening for signs of incoming earthquakes
among the background rumblings in the Earth.
"Our future goal is to combine both physics and data-driven methods to create a generalized
system that we can apply anywhere in the world,"said the AI's lead developer."The new research is
an important step towards achieving that goal."
28.What do we say about AI predicting earthquakes?
A.The rate of accuracy is high.
B.It has got proven worldwide.
C.The prediction is completely random.
D.Earthquakes can be controlled by scientists.

Literature makes us better thinkers. It moves us to see the multi-sidedness of situations and
therefore expands the width of our own visions, moving us towards dreams and solutions we might
not otherwise have imagined.
-Judith Langer,Envisioning Literature.
When students study Literature, they learn to appreciate words and their power. They travel to
other areas and times through the texts they read. They understand about their own culture and
others'.They learn to empathize (with characters,to feel their joys and pain. For example, one
15-year-old student shared with me that when study ing the short story The Shoes of My Sensei by
Goh Sin Tub,he could put himself into the shoes of those who lived through World War II,and
understand their suffering, and what it was like during that time.
Importantly, they lean to consider multiple aspects and understand the complexity of human
nature.Take, for example,George Orwell's Animal Farm.Do we feel Napoleon is fully responsible
for the miserable lives the animals lead?Aren't the other animals responsible for their own
misfortune too,having allowed Napoleon to bully them?In Literature,as in life,things aren't
always so clear cut,in black and white. And there lies the value of the subject-it prepares one for
the ambiguities(模棱两可)of life,.to take uncertainties in one's stride.
Literature develops in students lasting values, such as integrity, sympathy, loyalty and
responsibility.For example,in a text like Arthur Miller's The Crucible,the main character chooses
to sacrifice his own life rather than betray his friends and neighbors. When considering this
北师大版一一兰州第7页共12页
character's motivations, students discuss the value of integrity. They reflect on what it takes to be a
man or woman who commands the respect of the people around them even in difficult situations.
The texts students explore give them multiple opportunities to discuss and re-evaluate their own
values and beliefs. These act as a compass in life as students grow up.
32.Why is an example of a 15-year-old student mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.To raise people's awareness of appreciating others'culture.
B.To appeal to readers to read more Literature on World War II.
C.To remind students that Literature can make the world free of war.
D.To show Literature can make one think from others'points of view.
33.What does the underlined part probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Accept something uncertain without special effort.
B.Allow one to take the ambiguities of life for granted.
C.Have the courage to face the misfortune occurring in life.
D.Take the responsibility to fight against the miserable lives.
34.According to the last paragraph,Literature can help students
A.lead a happy life
B.build up right values
C.get on well with friends
D.handle difficult situations
35.What might be the best title for the text?
A.Where should students start when they study Literature?
B.What will students gain through the study of Literature?
C.Why will Literature help students in their future success?
D.How can we support students in their study of Literature?

This is something that all of us have noticed countless times in our daily lives.Whether
you're trying to read the fine print in a commercial or trying to make out a person's face from a
distance-it always helps to see better when you squint (your eyes.36
There's a common assumption that you're adding much stress to your eyeballs by squeezing
them to make them work better.37 If you think for a while, you'll find squinting is a different
matter. If squinting meant making your eyes become stress balls,we'd all be in a lot of trouble
38 When light hits an object,it bounces off its surface and enters our eyes. The
light travels through the eye lens ()The lens then focuses the light rays, which fall on the
北师大版一一兰州第8页共12页
retina ()A chemical present in the retina turns light into electric signals, which are then
transmitted to the brain. The brain processes the signals and ultimately allows us to see stuff.
The act of squinting, quite obviously, alters the shape of the space through which light passes,
which helps us form a clear image on the retina. What's more, light from different directions enters
and is subsequently perceived by the eye.39However,when you're trying to focus on
something,if there's light entering from multiple directions, the lens will be overloaded.By
squinting, focusing light rays becomes more precise.
Squinting does not damage your eyesight.40 It's one thing to occasionally squint in
order to make out something far away. But if you find yourself doing it all the time, getting your
eyes tested should be your focus.
A.Actually,that's not exactly the case.
B.Has it ever occurred to you why this happens?
C.Squinting does two major things to improve our vision.
D.However, doing it for long periods of time can lead to dry eyes.
E.Normally, this is a great thing,as it feeds your situational awareness
F.A number of biological components actually constitute the human eye.
G.Before revealing the secret behind it,let's learn about how we see things.
