第一节(满分15分)
Dear fellow members,
I’m delighted to share my poster designed for the Green Campus campaign, which has received widespread positive comments.
In terms of content, the poster features vibrant green scenery of our campus, together with meaningful slogans advocating low-carbon behavior. As for the design concept, I choose green as the dominant color to echo the theme. My design aims to awaken students’ awareness of environmental protection and show the charm of an eco-friendly campus.
Every small effort counts. Let’s start with tiny daily acts, like saving resources and reducing waste. Joint efforts will surely shape a greener campus. Thank you!
第二节(满分25分)
【参考范文】One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
James got up early the next morning. He gently woke Adam up and patted his shoulder, encouraging him to be brave enough to face his mistake. He took out some money he had earned from the restaurant, put it in his pocket, and told Adam that they would take responsibility together. Then the two brothers walked towards Mr Black’s house quietly, with Adam holding James’ hand tightly, looking a little nervous but determined.
Paragraph 2:
Mr Black was a little surprised to see the brothers. James stepped forward first, explained the whole thing clearly, and then apologized sincerely for Adam’s mistake. He took out the money and offered to pay for the broken tail light. Mr Black smiled and shook his head, saying he was moved by their honesty. He forgave Adam and refused the money, praising James for being a responsible elder brother. The brothers felt relieved, and James knew that this was more meaningful than buying a bike.

Frida Kahlo remains one of the most iconic and influential artists of the 20th century — not merely for her paintings, but for the extraordinary life she lived. With her traditional Mexican dresses, and a resolute gaze that meets viewers, she created art that was deeply personal yet universally resonant (产生共鸣的). “My painting contains in it the message of pain,” she once said.
Kahlo’s childhood was marked by adversity. At six, she was infected with polio, which caused her right leg a slight limp. Yet the young Frida was spirited and unbowed. Her life transformed at 18 when a bus accident left her seriously injured: her spine was broken in three places, her pelvis crushed, and her right leg shattered in eleven places. She would later remark with characteristic dark humor that the accident “took my virginity (贞洁)”. During months in bed, her mother placed a mirror above her and gave her paints. “I paint myself because I am often alone and because I am the subject I know best,” she explained. Painting became both a lifeline and a means of documenting her reality.
Frida Kahlo produced around 200 paintings, most of them self-portraits. Though some called her a Surrealist, Kahlo fiercely rejected the label. “I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality,” she insisted. Her work mixed Mexican folk art with raw honesty about her suffering. In The Broken Column (1944), she showed herself with a cracked spine held together by nails. Even her medical corsets (束身衣) that limited her body became canvases — she painted butterflies on them. André Breton, the leader of the Surrealist movement, described her work as “a ribbon around a bomb”.
Kahlo transformed suffering into art and personal tragedy into universal statements about the human condition. More than six decades after her death, she continues to reflect audiences because she remains utterly herself.
24. What makes Frida Kahlo an influential figure?
A. Her personal paintings. B. Her art and life story.
C. Her traditional dresses. D. Her pain and struggle.
25. What does the underlined word “adversity” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Misfortune B. Delight C. Advantage D. Courage
26. What does André Breton imply by describing Kahlo’s work as “a ribbon around a bomb” in paragraph 3?
A. Kahlo’s art shows more pain than beauty. B. Kahlo’s art turns bombs into ribbons.
C. Kahlo’s art combines beauty with suffering. D. Kahlo’s art features ribbons and bombs.
27. Which of the following best describes Kahlo?
A. Tough and creative. B. Humorous and easy-going.
C. Dynamic and generous. D. Optimistic and self-centered.

Books were stamped with “Human Authored” logos (标识) at this week’s London Book Fair. The Society of Authors described its labelling as “an important logo to protect and promote human creativity instead of AI labelled content in the marketplace.”
Visitors to the fair were also given copies of Don’t Steal This Book, a collection of 10,000 writers including Nobel winner Kazuo Ishiguro and Richard Osman, in which the pages are completely blank. The back cover states: “The UK government must not legalize book theft to benefit AI companies.”
The empty book is a protest against AI companies using copyrighted works without permission or payment to train their models — and against UK government proposals that could legalize this practice. Organized by Ed Newton-Rex, a composer and copyright campaigner, the project has drawn vast support from the literary world. The AI industry is “built on stolen work” “This is a crime that has victims,” he added, “Generative AI competes with the creators of the works it trains on, taking away their livelihoods.”
The protest comes just a week before the UK government is due to publish an economic impact assessment of proposed changes to copyright law. The government initially proposed a system, under which AI firms could use copyrighted material unless rights holders refused permission — an exact opposite of copyright law’s core principle. Only 3% of people surveyed backed the plan. The government dropped it but is now considering a “commercial research exception” that would still allow AI companies to use works without approval for commercial training.
For the authors behind Don’t Steal This Book, the blank pages are a powerful symbol: they represent the future of writing if AI companies continue to use creative work without payment — a world where authors are left with nothing. As the Society of Authors put it, the empty book is “a stopgap measure” — but the real solution is a copyright system that protects human creativity, not commercial greed.
28. Why were the books stamped with “Human Authored” logos?
A. To show public sympathy for authors. B. To fight AI’s stealing copyrighted works.
C. To promote newly-published works. D. To introduce promising authors.
29. What is AI creators’ influence to the human writers?
A. They improve the writing efficiency of human writers.
B. They help human writers create more wonderful works.
C. They protect the copyright of human literary works.
D. They may claim their means of making a living.
30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The protest weakening UK’s economy. B. Copyright law enjoying public support.
C. AI firms prioritizing commercial profits. D. The UK government favoring AI companies.
31. How does the Society of Authors view the empty book?
A. It is a band-aid fix. B. It stands the test of time.
C. It is a game changer. D. It works once and for all.

Scientists have taken to the salon (美发厅) after realising hairdressers may be an “under-recognised” force in fueling climate action. Alongside their craft, hairdressers are known for their conversation skills, who often act as an agony aunt, adviser and friend rolled into one. New research from the University of Bath’s Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformation (CAST) reveals this is what makes hair salons centers of trust that could be used to encourage conversations around climate change.
The research team interviewed 30 UK salon owners about sustainability, and then ran a nationwide intervention in 25 sustainable salons using Mirror Talkers, where eco-tips are placed on salon mirrors to engender discussions on sustainable haircare practices.
“The carbon footprint of shampoo (洗发水) is mostly in the hot water used,” says Denise Baden of the University of Southampton. “Simple messages like ‘most of us use too much shampoo and shampoo too often’ can spark conversations about how shampooing less and at lower temperatures saves time, money, energy, water and is better for your skin and hair.”
The study found nearly 73% of salon clients were likely to change their haircare routines after conversations sparked by the Mirror Talkers, some even switching to eco-friendly products, using cooler water, and adopting greener habits at home.
Researchers say this demonstrates how hairdressers have an “untapped ability” to weave climate change into everyday conversations and actions. They are now urging policymakers to roll out tools like Mirror Talkers nationally. “If we’re serious about building a public movement for climate action, then it’s time to invest in these unsung influencers because real change starts in everyday conversations,” says Dr Sam Hampton of CAST.
Matilda Collins, a senior director and stylist, says the Mirror Talkers initiative could gain positive outcomes if the experience “feels natural and engages clients without being overly virtuous”. She adds, “Ultimately, the trust a stylist builds with the client is what will drive potential positive changes in behaviour. It could be a great education platform and a conversation starter, however.”

Setting boundaries with people, especially those you care about, can be difficult. You may feel guilty about doing so, but there’s no need to. 36
Offer substitutes to what they want.
You may have a friend who wants to come over and stay all day. Being a good friend doesn’t mean doing everything they want you to do. 37 For instance, you can say, “You can come over, but only for a few hours because I have things I need to do.”
Tell your friend you’ll help, but you expect help, too.
38 Let your friends know that you expect the same amount of help that you give. For example, if your friend always bums a ride, you could say, “I don’t mind taking you to places, but I’ll need some gas money if this is going to continue.”
39
Some “friends” want to use up all you’ve got, but never offer anything in return. They may continually break promises, constantly borrow things from you but refuse to return the favor, and so on. Offer a warning about boundary violations to let your friend know when they occur. You might say, “Hey, you stood me up last night and that wasn’t cool. I’ll stop making plans with you if this happens again.”
Say “goodbye” to friends who continually cross boundaries.
In the course of establishing your boundaries, you might learn that some friends may push your limits continuously and they just are not worth the effort. 40 You could say, “I feel like our relationship is one-sided. I won’t be able to continue putting all I have into our friendship if you don’t do the same for me.”
A. Give a warning.
B. Tell your friend what you need.
C. Be clear that you can no longer maintain such a friendship.
D. Tell your friends you need more personal space from now on.
E. You don’t have to cut them off completely, however, you can offer alternatives.
F. You may be consistently available to help out, but never receive any in return.
G. Here are some tips about how to establish boundaries with friends.

In ancient times, people relied heavily on exchanging letters and brief notes for communication. Scholars and artists felt that writing or drawing on white paper was far from 56 (full) offering an expression of their thoughts and literary and artistic tastes. Thus, they designed a special type of patterned paper called huajian and decorated it 57 customized motifs (装饰图案) and characters, on smaller-sized sheets.
Researchers commented that in their research papers on traditional culture this year huajian represents the highest artistic taste of ancient Chinese 58 (intellectual). From the Tang Dynasty’s poets to Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, they all shared 59 (enthusiastic) for personalized paper art.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When the night fell, James, a middle school student in London, dragged his tired body home. In order to save money to buy himself a new bike, he had been working at a restaurant for over a month during the summer vacation. He had already earned some money. With one more week, he would have his dream bike.
Entering the room, James found his younger brother Adam sitting on the edge of his bed with an uneasy expression on his face. James stared at Adam confusedly.
“Sorry. I did something wrong,” Adam said, on the verge of tears.
“What’s the matter with you?” James asked.
“This afternoon I went to play football on the road outside the house and accidentally hit our neighbour Mr Black’s car. I was so scared and I hurried home in panic without telling him,” Adam said, full of guilt.
“Is the car seriously damaged?” James couldn’t wait to continue asking.
“The ball hit the car back and the tail light (尾灯) got broken,” Adam said in a low voice.
“It’s truly your fault. It’s really dangerous to play football on the road. What’s worse, you shouldn’t have come back without telling Mr Black about it. You are such a naughty boy,” James raised his voice. Hearing this, Adam lowered his head and bit his lip hard. James added, “Anyway, it’s never too late to mend (修补). I’ll take you to his house tomorrow to apologise. Now it’s time to sleep.”
When Adam went to bed, James couldn’t go to sleep himself. Father always told him to be honest, to be a boy admired by the people and to be an example of his brother. He was sorry for his brother’s behaviour. He shouldn’t have blamed his brother after he did something wrong. But he could understand him. Anyway, Adam was only a boy of seven and what had happened really scared him. But as his elder brother, he should pay for it though this might delay (推迟) his plan of having the bike. “Nothing serious. At worst, I can take more summer jobs,” he said to himself.
