A football player runs down the field with the ball. People watch with excitement, but they don’t shout or cheer. The only sounds come from the field. The ball makes a sound when it moves. The players and coaches shout to each other. This is an unusual match. All of the players, except the goalkeepers (守门员) , are blind and wear blindfolds (眼罩) .
Although he is blind, the player with the ball is skilful. He runs with the ball to the goal. He hears a teammate shout “Hey!” and quickly passes the ball. That player feels the ball with his feet. He hears someone knock on the goal and shout, “Eight metres to the left!” He turns and shoots. The ball flies past the goalkeeper. It’s a goal!
In a blind football team, teamwork is even more important than in other sports. With “bells” inside it, the football makes sounds when it moves. In this way, all the players know where the ball is. The players shout to let others know their places. Goalkeepers and coaches also shout to help their team attack or protect their goal. Every goal is the result of great teamwork.
As a Chinese saying goes, “One minute of success requires ten years of practice.” This is even more true for a blind football team. Zhang Jiabin, the captain of the Chinese men’s blind football team at the Paralympics (残奥会) , once said, “It’s all black in front of you, and you still have to run. At first, it was really scary.” The players train hard together, run into each other, and sometimes get hurt. But no one says a word against it. Each player wants to play their part well.
Their hard work has paid off. Between 2007 and 2025, the Chinese team won the Asian Blind Football Championship seven times. As their coach said, “Team spirit is the key to success.”
But beyond the wins, football has changed these players’ lives. “Because I couldn’t see, I was afraid of going out much. After I joined the football team, I made friends, and I was much happier,” said Zhang Jiabin. Another player added, “Blind football has given us confidence and a purpose in life.” Although these players live in darkness, blindness doesn’t take away their courage. They show the world the light inside their hearts.
5. What’s unusual about the match?
A. The players are very young. B. Most players cannot see.
C. The match takes a long time. D. The coaches join the game.
6. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. What goalkeepers do in a match. B. How coaches train the players.
C. How blind players work as a team. D. Why blind football is interesting.
7. What does the underlined phrase “paid off” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Cost a lot. B. Caused problems. C. Ended sadly. D. Achieved good results.
8. What can we infer from Zhang Jiabin’s words in the last paragraph?
A. Football changed his life. B. He was never scared.
C. Football brought him honour. D. Friends helped him play.
C
The first time Leo brought his sketchbook (素描本) to the lunch table, nobody said anything. The second time, Jake looked over and said, “You draw? That’s kind of strange.” A few others laughed. Leo closed his sketchbook and didn’t bring it again.
Before moving to this school, Leo had drawn every single day. He drew birds on bus tickets, clouds on the back of homework sheets, faces of people he didn’t know on the underground. Drawing was simply how he made sense of the world. But now, every time he thought about taking out his pencil, he heard Jake’s voice in his head.
Weeks passed. Leo started spending lunches looking at his phone like everyone else. He joined the after-school basketball group, even though he was terrible at it. He laughed at jokes he didn’t find funny. Slowly, he stopped feeling like himself.
One afternoon, his art teacher, Ms Fong, kept him back after class. She placed one of his old drawings on the desk—a sketch of the school dining hall, full of small, funny things. “Did you stop?” she asked quietly. Leo didn’t answer. “Someone laughed,” she said. She already knew.
Ms Fong didn’t give a long speech. She simply said, “The world doesn’t need another person looking at their phone. It needs people who see things differently. ”
That evening, Leo opened his sketchbook for the first time in weeks. His hand felt strange holding the pencil. But he drew anyway—a small, imperfect drawing of his bedroom window. It wasn’t his best work. But it was his.
The next day, he brought the sketchbook back to the lunch table.
9. Why did Leo stop bringing his sketchbook to the lunch table?
A. He lost interest in drawing. B. His teacher asked him to stop.
C. He was laughed at by classmates. D. He forgot to bring it to school.
10. How did Leo change according to Paragraph 3?
A. He became more confident. B. He stopped being himself.
C. He enjoyed different hobbies. D. He made new friends.
11. What did Ms Fong mean by the underlined sentences?
A. Being different is valuable. B. Everyone should learn to draw well.
C. Leo should follow others. D. Using phones at school is not allowed.
12. What is the text mainly about?
A. Making friends at a new school. B. A boy’s story of losing and finding himself.
C. The importance of teenagers’ growth. D. A teacher’s help to her student.
D
The land was dead. No trees, no grass, just sand and dust as far as the eye could see. In 1962, a group of young people arrived at Saihanba (塞罕坝) in Hebei Province with a simple but great dream: to bring a forest back to life.
Ren Zhongyuan was one of them. He was only in his twenties. “Whenever a storm of sand and dust hit,” he said, “it was like someone was pouring sand and dust from the roof of a house.” Food was hard to get, so they grew their own potatoes and corn. The shelters (简陋住所) they built did little to keep out the cold wind. But nobody left.
The early years were heartbreaking. Most of the young saplings (树苗) they planted died in the freezing winds. But the team studied, changed their ways, and tried again. They improved their tools so the saplings could grow stronger roots deep in the soil. One spring, two hundred workers planted trees for forty days without a break. When they finally saw the saplings standing green and alive, some of them cried.
The forest grew. And so did the next generation (一代人). Liu Jun was born into it. His parents had spent their lives watching over the trees, and he did the same. “Planting trees is not enough,” he said quietly. “You have to protect them, every single day.”
Now a third generation has taken over. Shi Chen’s grandfather was one of the very first planters. Every time Shi stands among those old trees, he feels a deep connection between himself and a man he never met. “I want to continue his work,” Shi said, “no matter how hard it gets.”
A desert became a forest. This dream took three generations to come true, and it is still alive today.
13. Why did the young people come to Saihanba in 1962?
A. To find a place to live. B. To study plants in the mountains.
C. To bring a forest back to life. D. To grow food for the whole country.
14. What did Ren Zhongyuan and his team do when most saplings died?
A. They asked the government for help. B. They gave up and tried something new.
C. They moved to a warmer place to work. D. They improved their tools and tried again.
15. What does the underlined word “it” refer to (指代) in the last paragraph?
A. A desert. B. A forest. C. This dream. D. This generation.
16. What is the best title (标题) for the text?
A. The Greatest Tree Planter in China B. A Forest That Changed One Family
C. Three Generations, One Green Dream D. How China Fights Against the Desert
第二节
阅读短文,从方框内所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,其中有一个多余的选项。
Getting along with parents is not always easy. Many teenagers find it hard to control their words when they disagree with their parents. Fights happen, and both sides end up feeling hurt. The good news is that a few small changes can make things better. _____17_____
The first step is to learn to see things from your parents’ side. _____18_____ Maybe they are tired from work, worried about your future, or just repeating what their own parents did. They, like everyone, aren’t perfect. Understanding this helps you reply with more calm and less anger.
It also helps to spend a little time talking with them every day. It doesn’t have to be about anything important. Share something small — a funny thing that happened at school, a song you like, or just how your day went. Those little conversations may seem unimportant at first. _____19_____
Finally, don’t be afraid to say sorry or to forgive (原谅) . After a fight, it’s easy to stay silent for days and wait for the other person to speak first. But that only makes things worse. Saying “I’m sorry” or “It’s OK” helps everyone move on faster. _____20_____ These three steps will not solve every problem overnight, but they can slowly change the way you and your parents understand each other.
A. Learning to forgive is often harder than saying sorry.
B. It’s not always easy, but it makes things feel lighter for both sides.
C. Here are three ways that can help you communicate better with your parents.
D. When they seem hard to understand, ask yourself why they are acting this way.
E. But over time, they build a bridge that makes bigger conversations much easier.

Nature presents us with endless wonders. Most people get interested and ask questions. But one person took his interest all the way to the fields. He was born in the flowering season of early summer, and made plants his life. This person was Wang Wencai.
For over 70 years, Professor Wang explored China’s plants with great passion and hard work. He discovered and named about 1,370 new plant species. To carry out his research, he spent years in wild mountains and forests. Once, he fell seriously ill while doing field work in Yunnan. Though he nearly died, Wang never stopped his work. He lost sight in his right eye at the age of 83. But he didn’t let anybody know. With a magnifier in hand, he still carried on with his research for another 10 years.
Despite his huge success, Wang seldom thought about personal honour or wealth. Although he received the First Class Award of the National Natural Science Award twice, he hardly mentioned it. For him, the award belonged to the team, and he was just doing his job. In fact, Wang was always quiet about his achievements. He was such a great scientist. But for a long time, even his granddaughter had no idea.
Plants grow and sleep with the seasons. So did Professor Wang. He passed away at the age of 96 with the falling leaves of autumn. When people came to say goodbye, they didn’t hear any sad notes. Instead, they got to listen to Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. This was Wang’s favourite piece of music. It softly told people about his lifelong exploration and love of nature.

Dear Li Hui,
I really need your advice. Last month, I got a small role in our school play. Being on stage felt amazing, and I knew for sure—I want to be an actor.
But when I told my parents, they were upset. They want me to become a doctor. They say acting is too risky and not a real career. I understand they care about me, but I can’t imagine giving up something I love so much.
How can I make them understand? What should I do?
Yours,
Eric

例文
Dear Eric,
I completely understand your feelings. It’s really upsetting when parents disagree with our dreams. They just worry about your future and hope you can have a steady life.
I suggest you talk with them calmly. Explain your deep love for acting and show them your clear future plans. You can also promise to keep good grades so they won’t worry about your schoolwork. Communication works best. Believe in yourself and never give up your dream. If you balance study and acting well, you’ll make it. I’m always on your side and support you all the way.
I hope things get better soon!
Yours,
Li Hui
