One possible version:
Dear Editor,
I would like to recommend my classmate, Zhang Wei, for Person of the Year.
Zhang Wei is a well-rounded student. He ranks top three in our grade, and he is the captain of the school basketball team. After class, he often teaches younger students how to draw traditional Chinese paintings.
I recommend him because he truly develops in all five areas. For example, last month he organized a charity sale and raised money for children in poor areas. He also cleans the classroom every Friday without being asked.
He sets a good example for all of us. I hope you will consider him.

Transform lives — Become an Ollie Coach!
Despite the very best efforts of our education system, it is struggling to cope with fully supporting the emotional wellbeing of our children. Have you ever felt that you would love to help, but were powerless to act? Well, here’s your opportunity to do something positive. By training to become a coach in the Ollie School, you could be an inspirational force in children’s emotional wellbeing.
Comprehensive training
The Ollie School plans to build an army of coaches who can make the world a better place, one child at a time. Ollie Coaching is a holistic (整体的) approach that leads all our youngsters to a place where they can live well in the chaos of modern living.
Learn with flexibility
So many schools are battling to provide an appropriate mental health environment with limited effect. That’s why Alison Knowles, who was challenged throughout her life with an inability to read, decided to set up the Ollie School. The Ollie approach is all about empowering children to seek solutions and take control of their emotions, rather than being controlled by them. It is also about personalization and identifying which technique will work with each individual child — no one-size-fits-all approach here.
License to help
The Ollie School graduates are awarded a certified qualification in NLP, and a license to work as an Ollie Coach. If helping children and their families to be more emotionally strong appeals to you, contact Ollie School to find out more. Courses are a combination of online and in-person, offering the best of both worlds, with a limited number of trainees to maximize learning potential. Visit ollieandhissuperpowers.com for more!

As evening falls, crowds begin gathering at Sensoryscape, a tourist site on the island resort of Sentosa in Singapore. With music filling the air, five AI-powered robot dogs dance to the rhythm. They wave, jump, and roll on the ground. After the performance, they interact and “chat” with visitors. Children excitedly run around them, while adults use their phones to capture photos and videos.
From April 18 to May 17, the Singapore Tourism Board and the Chinese travel platform Mafengwo jointly launched a pilot AI robot dog service at Sentosa Wildlife Reserve in Singapore. Addison Goh, divisional director of the Business and Experience Development Division at Sentosa Development Corporation, says, “The robot dogs are probably busier than I am,” adding that every day, they conduct guided tours, perform multiple dance shows, and check the grounds to interact with visitors.
More importantly, the robot dogs are powered by AI models. Visitors can not only ask them for directions, but also receive personalized recommendations. Families may be guided to family-friendly restaurants, while younger visitors are offered suggestions for photography attractions and social media-worthy spots.
The Singapore Tourism Board describes the pilot project as “an exciting step toward reimagining visitor experiences through technology and innovation”. In recent years, Singapore has been actively promoting its “Smart Nation” initiative, and the tourism sector has become a major testing ground for AI applications. Unlike traditional smart tourism solutions that focus mainly on online bookings, digital payments or backend data management, these AI robot dogs emphasize the interactive experience of AI in real-world settings.
From China to Singapore, these robot dogs are bringing the warmth of technology to visitors from around the world. Rather than just cold machines or lines of code, they are gradually becoming companions that tourists can touch, communicate with, and even share part of their journeys with.
24. What do Addison Goh’s words show about the AI robot dogs?
A. They are multi-functional. B. They work long hours.
C. They are of cultural value. D. They cause mixed feelings.
25. How are the AI robot dogs different from traditional smart tourism solutions?
A. They evalunte bookings. B. They have advanced codes.
C. They promote innovation. D. They highlight interaction.
26. What is the author’s attitude towards the AI robot dogs?
A. Doubtful. B. Approving. C. Cautious. D. Unclear.
27. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Robot Dogs Become Human Companions
B. Singapore’s Smart Tourism Wins Applause
C. AI Robot Dogs Redefine Tourist Experience
D. A New AI Service Is Launched in Singapore

From its frozen surface, Antarotica seems like a place unsuited for life. But just offshore, the depths of the Southern Ocean tell a different story. Hundreds of feet below the surface, there are ice fish guarding their eggs and strange-looking crabs crawling among colorful sea stars. “It blows your mind,” says marine biologist Cristian Lagger. “At the bottom of the sea, Antarctica is a rich continent with many species, colors, and shapes.”
During a recent exploration, Lagger looked into those depths from the control room of the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research ship, Falkor, as live video from its remotely operated vehicle, SuBastian, streamed on a monitor. His research team had reached a previously undocumented place on the ocean floor, where SuBastian explored a gently sloped area from a depth of more than 3,000 feet to about 1,000 feet. Lagger and his colleagues felt like astronauts exploring a new frontier.
The Southern Ocean plays an outsized role in the health of our planet by absorbing more human-caused carbon dioxide than any other ocean and balancing the climate through its currents and seasonal ice. But as a recent study notes, current carbon sink (碳汇) estimates are limited because “harsh conditions there make collecting good data difficult.” So, little of the seabed has been studied and much remains unknown. By exploring its deep reaches, Lagger and his team hope to discover new species and update carbon storage estimates.
Lagger believes data from this expedition will strengthen the case for designating more marine protected areas around Antarctica. “It is not only about preserving unique and largely untouched ecosystems,” he explains, “but about safeguarding…the health of the Southern Ocean and its role in Earth’s systems.” As he points out: “What happens at the frozen edge now will not just stay there.”
28. What does Lagger think of the biodiversity of the Southern Ocean?
A. It’s amazing. B. It’s strange. C. It’s predictable. D. It’s declining.
29. How did Lagger and his team study the depths of the Southern Ocean?
A. By exploring a new frontier. B. By stopping at a sloped area.
C. By playing live video remotely. D. By observing from the ship.
30. Why is the Southern Ocean vital to our planet?
A. It limits carbon sink. B. It stores much carbon.
C. It protects new species. D. It balances seasonal ice.
31. What does Lagger imply in the last paragraph?
A. The frozen edge does not stay in a fixed place.
B. Data from this expedition safeguard Earth’s systems.
C. The health of the Southern Ocean affects our ecosystem.
D. Marine protected areas around Antarctica are strengthened.

If you’re the parent of a child or teenager, chances are you’ve heard of social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, or his wildly influential book, The Anxious Generation. In sum, the book argues that the rise of smartphones and social media has “rewired” the brains of young people, leading to a mental health crisis. The book has undeniably had a significant impact. Many states in the U.S. are limiting the use of phones in schools by law.
Haidt’s latest work, The Amazing Generation, is a self-described “guide”. The first section of the book gives background information about everything from the rise of different kinds of media to explanations of “the attention economy”. This section also includes lots of alarming visuals, including one of my favorites, “Screen Time Calculator That You Can Use to Freak People Out.” “1 hour per day = 15 full days per year. 2 hours per day = 1 full month per year. Etc.” This is a page I wouldn’t mind seeing hung on classroom walls, including the college classrooms where I teach.
The second part of the book is a novel tracking the lives of six young people, their relationships to themselves and one another, and the various technologies that impact those interactions. It’s hard not to feel familiar when you read the part where heavy social media user Alex finally agrees to join his phoneless friend Jax at the skate park. We see Jax trying out different skating moves in the background, and by the end, falling onto the ground after another heroic attempt. Meanwhile, Alex has been scrolling his screen, first searching for skating tips, then watching world championship skating highlights.
What seems especially fascinating about The Amazing Generation is that it can get young people thinking more critically about the products that shape their everyday lives. The message of the book is very straightforward, and it feels like an important antidote to the daily pull and messaging of the online world.
32. What is the argument of The Anxious Generation?
A. Social media improves the brains of young people.
B. The digital use harms children’s mental well-being.
C. Parents ought to read more wildly influential books.
D. States should limit the use of smartphones in school.
33 What does the author’s favorite visual indicate?
A. Calculating screen time is difficult for people.
B. Visuals are suitable for classroom decorations.
C. It informs people of the rise of different media.
D. People unconsciously spend much screen time.
34. Why is the story of Jax and Alex montioned?
A. To analyze why technology bonds people.
B. To oncourage sports activities among friends.
C. To show how smartphones shape interactions.
D. To explain the importance of similar interests.
35. What does the underlined word “antidote” probably mean in the last paragraph?
A. Cure. B. Lesson. C. Role. D. Decision.

You’ve finished your exams. You’ve earned the break. Now you want to rest — and you should. But here’s something you might not expect: Students spend their post-exam break in completely different ways. 36 Here’s what they do.
They reflect — briefly, but intentionally. Top students don’t obsess over every question they answered. They ask: What worked this year? What didn’t? What should I do differently next time? And they write it down — somewhere they’ll actually read it again. This habit improves every future exam season.
37 They digitize important documents (assignments, essays, lab work) and file away notes they might need later. It may take 30 minutes, but it saves hours down the line — especially if they need to reference this year’s work for next year’s classes.
They plan for what’s next. Top students don’t open textbooks the week after exams. 38 They might look at next year’s subject guides, and choose summer reading or projects.
They help others. 39 Top students, who offer to explain topics to classmates, create study guides for younger students, and share exam tips and reflections with peers, find that these actions reinforce what they’ve learned and build confidence.
They rest — on purpose. Rest isn’t accidental. 40 Top students make it active by doleting their exam study apps for a while, spending time with family and friends, and pursuing interests outside of school.
A. They read — not just for school.
B. They organize their notes and materials.
C. But they do begin mapping out what’s ahead.
D. Most students just relax and have a good rest.
E. Recovery isn’t a break from success — it’s part of it.
F. One of the best ways to strengthen learning is to teach it.
G. The top students relax while laying groundwork for the next chapters.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was early May, my first day in my volunteer job as groundskeeper for an old people’s community, a way for me to stay busy during retirement. Besides, I was doing a favor for my son Joshua, who was the manager here. His regular groundskeeper had quit, leaving the place looking like a jungle, and I was grateful to have something to do outdoors.
I’d told him I would help out on one condition: I wouldn’t have to deal with people. Before retiring, I’d been a building inspector, and I’d handled enough complaints to last a lifetime. I’d seen a lot in my 76 years, and there wasn’t much that could surprise me at this point. I was minding my own business, clearing weeds around the trees and bushes when a group of ladies signaled me to stop the motor.
“Stay away from our flower bed,” one woman called out, glaring through her glasses and pointing at a patch of green I’d cut. “Oops,” I said. “I thought those were weeds.” I gave them a nod and went back to work. Not 10 minutes later, she waved at me anxiously from the door of her apartment. I cut the motor again. “What?” I said, maybe a little more sharply than I intended. “Watch out for my roses by the fence,” she told me. “I put signs by them.” Bending down, I spotted the remains of some tender seedlings (幼苗), which I had mistaken for weeds. A few feet away, two paper signs reading “Rose Plant” were almost completely covered by thick overgrown weeds, making them nearly invisible. My heart sank. How was I supposed to see them?
At dinner, I told my wife, Debby, how bad I felt for the woman. “I didn’t mean to damage the flower bed or rose plants. I just wanted to do my job uninterrupted,” I said. She set down her fork and looked at me. “You made a mess of things, dear. And you never even apologized.” she said.
