The Students' Union 第二节(满分25分) Roughly an hour later, a message came from Sofia. She asked how my day in Lisbon was going and whether I had enjoyed the beautiful scenery I had looked forward to. Staring at the rainy street outside the window, I typed back lazily, complaining that the sudden rain had ruined all my plans and left my day dull and meaningless. I told her I had wasted half the day staring at my phone, chasing empty likes like most people around me. A sense of emptiness flooded my heart, making me feel even more bored and disappointed with the rainy day. Just then, Sofia sent another message:“Maybe the rain is not a bad thing. Sometimes we need days like this.”Her words struck me instantly. I put down my phone and looked around the quiet coffee shop. Free from the noise of social media and tight travel plans, I finally calmed down and truly felt the warmth of the coffee, the soft sound of rain and the peaceful atmosphere of the street. For the first time in a long while, I savored a slow, genuine moment, realizing true happiness never lies in perfect photos or others' praise, but in feeling life with my own heart. 1.What does the man tell Jane to do? Chris Santacroce has been an outdoor sports lover since he was young. He worked as a full-time professional paraglider (滑翔伞运动员) starting from 1992.He earned precious chances to travel across the world and even became a signed athlete of Red Bull.Unfortunately, a sudden spinal cord (脊髓) injury ruined his adventurous life overnight. He had to rely on a wheelchair and lost the ability to do what he loved most.Though he eventually recovered completely, this unforgettable experience greatly changed his values and life goals. He changed his mindset from showing off his own strength to serving others selflessly.‌“I once chased my own glory in the sky, but now I want to light up others’ dreams,” Chris said. It is this kind and generous thought that inspired Chris to found Project Airtime. The organization helps different groups of people, including brain injury patients, senior citizens and disabled veterans (退伍军人).All of them hold a sincere desire to break physical limits and soar in the blue sky. Joe Stone is a typical and inspiring beneficiary of the project. In 2010, a terrible flying accident left him quadriplegic (四肢瘫痪者).He suffered huge physical pain and endless difficulties in life, but he was tough, optimistic and never surrendered to his fate.He finished crossing famous mountain roads by hand-cranked bicycles and even became a quadriplegic Ironman triathlete. After realizing his flying dream with the help of the project, the warm-hearted Joe chose to pass on love.He now works as a task supervisor and trainer, devoting his spare time to helping more disabled people chase their dreams.“Disability limits my body, but never limits my courage to fly,” Joe shared. For Chris and his team, the project is never just about a sport. It offers hope and courage to those who are trapped by physical disabilities. 24.What made Chris build Project Airtime? D.Modest and talkative. 27.What is the main idea of the text? A.Two paragliders’ adventurous life experiences. B.How physical disabilities influence people’s life. C.The development of a special flying sport project. D.A nonprofit helps disabled people fly and gain hope. C Imagine a delicate Chinese festival lantern, not made from paper, but from a smart polymer (聚合物) that can change shape on command without motors or wires. This real-world creation from North Carolina State University researchers is a breakthrough redefining possibilities in materials science. At first glance, the polymer lantern seems simple.Yet within this delicate structure lies a world of complex physics. It is bistable—able to rest naturally in two stable shapes. One is its relaxed, lantern-like form; the other is a pressed, spinning-top-like shape. When pushed down, it slowly bends, storing energy until it suddenly turns into its second form. When released, the stored energy bursts free, turning it back instantly to its original lantern shape. This feature makes it programmable, as slight twists to its structure can predictably create a variety of shapes, unlocking its potential beyond a simple toy. But the real magic comes from how these transformations can be controlled from a distance.A magnetic film (磁性薄膜) attached to the structure’s base allows it to move without physical contact. With this capability, the lantern becomes a dynamic device that can perform work, move and interact with its environment. Its potential is demonstrated by striking examples: a gentle holder to catch fish and a smart water flow controller — both powered only by the physics of the material itself. To fully understand and control this lantern’s behavior, the team developed an advanced mathematical model to precisely program its shape, stability, and power.“All of those factors are critical for creating shapes that can perform desired applications,” said one researcher. This research opens a new chapter for soft robotics, which seeks to replace hard components with flexible and intelligent materials.By combining multiple units, the researchers are looking ahead to new shape-changing surfaces or structures. At its heart, the research captures something poetic: the ability of matter to remember, adapt and move. The polymer Chinese lantern doesn’t just shine — it breathes, it moves, and it teaches us that the boundary between living and engineered systems is growing thinner every day. 28.What is the primary function of paragraph 2? A.To contrast its simple look with complex physics. B.To describe how it is made. C.To show it’s better than paper lanterns. D.To introduce practical uses. 29.The magnetic film allows the lantern to ________. A.store more energy. B.have two stable shapes. C.be controlled remotely. D.stay strong in tough conditions. 30.Which future use is most likely based on the text? A.A shape-changing tool for inside-body surgery. B.A sun-activated hardening building material. C.A part turning heat into continuous motion. D.A light-sensitive color-changing window film. 31.The research is most important because it may ________. A.cut the cost of festival items. B.offer new ways to monitor the environment. C.Blur (使模糊) the line between non-living and responsive systems. D.replace electronics with polymers. D The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has brought wide-ranging opportunities across industries and transformed the way we live, work and interact.Yet, like earlier technological revolutions, AI is accompanied by ethical challenges, including algorithmic (算法) discrimination, deepfake content and highly autonomous decision-making.These risks make it necessary to carry out ethical supervision immediately so that AI can be developed and used responsibly. In response, the Chinese government has introduced a trial guideline on the ethics review and service of AI technology, which offers clear guidance and marks a critical step forward in AI governance.Ethical governance of AI is a moral imperative (要紧的事), as AI may deeply affect human well-being, fairness, transparency and privacy. The guideline prioritizes three key areas for ethical review: hybrid (混合) systems influencing human behavior, emotions and health; algorithmic models shaping public opinion; and high-autonomy automated decision-making systems involving safety and health risks. It is designed to encourage innovation while reducing risks, supporting the participation of universities, research institutions and enterprises in establishing ethical standards and building an ethics service system featuring risk monitoring, testing and certification. This helps improve ethical integrity and lower rule-following costs, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. The guideline is part of China’s broader effort to strengthen technology ethics governance, following earlier initiatives and agreeing with the commitment to responsible innovation. It works with the Cybersecurity Law, the Data Security Law and the Personal Information Protection Law to form a comprehensive governance framework. The guideline also defines six core ethical review areas: human well-being, fairness and justice, controllability and trustworthiness, transparency and explainability, accountability and traceability, and privacy protection, with clear implementation procedures. Ethical oversight of AI is not a barrier to innovation but a necessary safeguard for responsible progress. This guideline demonstrates China’s leading role in AI governance, showing that development and governance can complement each other to build a sustainable, ethical digital future. 32.What is the main idea of the first paragraph? A.AI has transformed work and interaction. B.Revolutions always cause ethical problems. C.Algorithmic discrimination challenges AI. D.AI development calls for ethical supervision. 33.What is the purpose of the AI ethics review guideline? A.To respond to market demands. B.To prioritize high-risk areas first. C.To guide the healthy development of AI. D.To fill legal gaps in AI governance. 34.Which of the following best describes the guideline? A.It is systematic and well-organized. B.It is a temporary measure with little effect. C.It adds new requirements to existing laws. D.It is currently being tested on a small scale. 35.What is implied in the last paragraph? A.Oversight removes AI barriers. B.Development and governance go together. C.Oversight means innovation leadership. D.Progress and oversight should be balanced. In a world driven by test scores and productivity, art is often seen as a luxury or an elective. But recent research suggests this common assumption is mistaken. 36 They build stronger creative thinking and emotional intelligence through these pursuits. One study even found that art participants scored 20% higher on empathy tests. Why does art have such a powerful effect on young minds? 37 When a child paints or plays an instrument, the brain must coordinate perception (感知), movement, memory, and emotion all at once. A 2024 Swiss study of over 2,000 children found that those receiving regular arts training consistently outperformed their peers in problem-solving tasks. 38 Children often struggle to put complex feelings into words. Art gives them another language to express their own inner world. Through colors, sounds, or movements, they can express what they cannot otherwise share. This process helps them understand and manage their own moods — a skill vital for mental health. The value of art extends well into adulthood as well. In an age when AI can generate content from existing information, uniquely human strengths — imagination, original thinking, moral judgment — are becoming more valuable. Art education nurtures (培养) exactly these essential human qualities. Students with art backgrounds learn to approach problems without ready-made answers. 39 That is why art education deserves a central place in our schools. Policymakers and parents should no longer see art as an extra thing. Instead, they need to recognize it as an essential part of the school curriculum. 40 Engagement with artistic pursuits builds creativity, empathy, and the inner strength to face life’s challenges. A.Art, in essence, is about making better human beings. B.Much of the explanation lies in how the human brain works. C.Some educators argue that art is difficult to measure in standardized tests. D.Another benefit is that art provides a safe space for emotional expression. E.Math and science courses are always prioritized over art classes in most schools. F.They embrace uncertainty, which prepares them for careers that no machine can replace. G.It shows students engaged in regular artistic activities such as drawing or music gain clear benefits. Marc Watkins, a professor of the University of Mississippi’s department of writing, is sitting in the office, staring at a student’s perfect paper. His mouse hovers (悬停) over the ‘check for copying’ button, asking: Did this argument come from late-night research — or materialize in a ChatGPT direction? For  41 , the emergence of AI tools has caused an influential identity crisis, shaking the foundations of traditional academic practices. In today’s classrooms, students increasingly rely on AI to craft essays and complete assignments, posing a trouble for educators: how to  42  academic work when the boundary between human effort and AI-generated content becomes unclear? How to defend the integrity of writing instruction in an era when tools like ChatGPT can produce finished articles in seconds? This  43  strikes at the core of educational objectives. Writing courses, once centered on cultivating critical thinking and drafting skills, now face a(n)  44 . On one hand, students submit perfect texts without experiencing the struggle of creation and revision. For example, some  45  brainstorming and editing, letting AI generate final papers. This robs them of the learning journey-understanding argument construction, grammar structures, and creative expression. Professors now play two roles: not just guiding intellectual growth, but also  46  AI use, a task that distracts energy from meaningful teaching. On the other hand, within this challenge lies an opportunity for reflection. Many educators emphasize the  47  value of structured academic activities — courses prioritizing peer reviews, critical writing, and analytical discussions cultivate skills AI cannot copy. Education should empower students to “learn through structured assignments,” where  48 like researching, debating, and revising build deeper understanding. These steps don’t just produce written work — they  49  critical thinking and reasonable communication, essential in any academic or professional setting. Moreover, a  50  of educational goals is also invited. Rather than resisting AI, professors can integrate it into curricula as a learning tool. Teaching students to   51   engage with AI — analyzing its preferences, double-checking the facts, and using it responsibly — becomes part of digital literacy. For instance, “AI literacy” workshops could teach students to treat AI as an additional resource, not a(n)  52  for their own thinking. This approach transforms AI from a  53  into an assistant, preparing students for a tech-driven world. The AI identity crisis calls professors back to education’s essence: nurturing human intellect. While AI reshapes teaching methods, the mission to develop analytical minds, ethical judgment, and creative problem-solving  54 . Professors must  55 , using this moment not just to address challenges, but to strengthen the unique value of human-centered learning. 41.A.professors B.students C.parents D.technicians 42.A.design B.teach C.assess D.finish 43.A.work B.crisis C.instruction D.improvement 44.A.evolution B.contradiction C.construction D.opposition 45.A.pass by B.focus on C.set out D.object to 46.A.studying B.developing C.abandoning D.identifying 47.A.predictable B.emotional C.irreplaceable D.overestimated 48.A.outcomes B.subjects C.processes D.professions 49.A.polish B.limit C.evaluate D.challenge 50.A.creation B.redefinition C.prioritization D.simplification 51.A.passively B.openly C.critically D.regularly 52.A.improvement B.aid C.reference D.replacement 53.A.threat B.consultant C.program D.specialist 54.A.ends B.endures C.starts D.changes 55.A.retire B.adapt C.listen D.explain The silver craft of the Miao people is a precious traditional art, mainly popular in Guizhou Province, China. Time was flying. I was back in Lisbon last weekend. When I woke up on Sunday morning, I saw the roofs shining brightly in the morning sunshine, just like setting the pale blue sky on fire. My heart beat much faster with excitement as I started to plan the day ahead and replied to my friend Sofia. After a delicious breakfast at the hostel, I thought about all the places I could visit, wandering aimlessly through Alfama, taking the vehicle up to the Castle, or appreciating the remarkable sunset in Lisbon. But the moment I stepped outside, the sky suddenly darkened with the black clouds. I had barely walked a few steps when the rain began to pour down. I gave up immediately and went back to my hostel room. As the rain kept falling, I spent a few lazy hours lying on my bed, scrolling through my phone. Before I knew it, it was already 2:30 p.m.. Hungry, I went back outside on the empty street against the light rain. Soon, I stepped into a small cafe, an old favourite of mine. Their soup was good, and they made an amazing dessert — thinly cut pork, baked and placed neatly inside a fresh bread roll. As I took a bite of the tasty pork and had a sip of soup, my mood suddenly lifted. Then, I walked out with a spring in my step. The rain was still falling outside. Nearly wet through, I wandered aimlessly without a plan but a heart full of boredom. Then I suddenly came across a coffee shop called Fabrika, where some regular customers roasted their own coffee casually. A small sign reads: “We have no WiFi. Enjoy your coffee.” I ordered one and sat on one of their leather sofas. However, the lack of WiFi didn’t stop the customers from scrolling their phones — some were addicted to the screens and others were doing selfies (自拍) to gain the sense of belonging — and I was no different. We usually preferred not to share boring moment — only sunset photos and perfect pictures. We chased likes and followers, as if our happiness were measured by them. Roughly an hour later, a message came from Sofia. Just then, Sofia sent another message: “Maybe the rain is not a bad thing. Sometimes we need days like this.”
