Multi-day cycling journeys represent a unique combination of physical challenge,
absorbed travel, and intense environmental engagement. This mode of travel, cycling,
allows for a close exploration of diverse landscapes. It is defined by its independence
and a pace that is ideal for deep cultural and geographical appreciation. The following
typical routes illustrate the varied appeal of such undertakings, each presenting a
distinct set of physical demands and cultural rewards.
DANUBE CYCLE PATH
Crossing the river from its German source to its mouth in Romania constitutes an
awe-inspiring 1,800-mile journey.However,its picturesque Austrian section offers a
highly scenic alternative.Starting just across the German border in Passau, cyclists
can conclude their journey in Slovakia, with Bratislava readily accessible from Vienna
by train.
C2C (Sea-to-Sea)ROUTE
Modeled on the trans-England principle of Hadrian's Wall, this route negotiates
the rough landform of the Lake District and North Pennines.Participants often
observe the tradition of engaging their back wheel in the Irish Sea at the outset, and
their front wheel in the North Sea upon reaching the edge of Newcastle.
CANAL DU MIDI
This global cultural treasure in France was designed with boats not bikes in mind,
but its tree-lined canal paths make for a very civilized cycle.Exodus Travels'tour also
takes in the historic walled town of Carcassonne from the Middle Ages and a chance
to wash off the dust of the road on a pretty beach.
CROSS CAPE
This leg-testing journey crosses the southern tip of the Afican continent.
Departing from Plettenberg Bay,the route progresses through the unique fynbos
ecosystem, passes historic towns, and eventually reaches Stellenbosch, the heart of the
Cape Winelands.

There's something timelessly immersive about audio storytelling-and Naomi
Shah knows it.At 24,she established Meet Cute,an entertainment company
specializing in short-form audio romantic comedies (rom-com).It has produced some
250 titles and reached 8.6 million downloads across streaming services.
From day one,Meet Cute's mission was"to build stories at the speed of culture,"
Shah says."If something is trending on socials,we're able to incorporate it into a
story."Moving quickly and meeting audiences "where they're at,"Shah says,enables
Meet Cute to be "part of the conversation."
Growing up in Portland,Ore.,Shah loved creative writing but was identified as a
"STEM kid."She majored in mechanical engineering.Wanting something more
creative and founder-facing,she joined the investment team at Union Square Ventures.
Her employer wanted better odds, but the team couldn't find an entrepreneur (
with a convincing proposal. So Shah wrote one herself, drawing up the blueprints for
such a company.Later,Union Square contributed the first of $9.3 million in backing.
While Shah is a rom-com fan,she envisions Meet Cute's appeal lying not in
specific genre (conventions, but in general feel-good,nonprescriptive escapism.
"Rom-coms stand for hope, human connection and love,"says Shah. But why this
approach -brief,audible,and upbeat?According to Shah,Meet Cute "brings
entertainment into day-to-day tasks and pockets of time"when you can't dedicate
hours to a screen.Plus, without concrete visuals, listeners'imaginations run wild.
"Every single person is in the director's seat,"she says.
Earlier this year, the company was acquired by Fox Entertainment, where Shah
now serves as senior vice president of strategy and operations.Meet Cute can now tap
the wealth of Fox-owned stories and convert them to audio, and it has multiple global
platforms on which to distribute its stories.
"It's not over,"Shah says."That is something that I'm very proud of:I've built
something that's going to keep going.
24.What kind of content does Meet Cute seek to produce?
A.Long and weighty.
B.Classic and formal.
C.Accurate and select.
D.Timely and relatable
25.Which of the following best describes Shah's career path?
A.A preset track.
B.A tough climb.
C.A cross-field leap.
D.A comfort-zone choice.
26.What does Shah highlight as a desirable feature of Meet Cute?
A.It fits into small time windows.B.It sticks to rom-com conventions.
C.It supports independent directors.D.It provides step-by-step instructions

Beneath the Pacific lies the Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ),where tens of
billions of polymetallic nodules(多金属结核)are packed with cobalt(钴).
Seabed-mining companies promote them as"a battery in a rock"and "the easiest way
to solve climate change."They claim that those nodules can provide metals for 4.8
billion electric vehicles.
Yet this promise threatens a biological treasure.Marine (biologists
reveal the CCZ shelters over 5,000 unique species in the darkness. The extensive
mining of cobalt may lead to the loss of biodiversity.A company claimed to have
found a solution to minimize the damage to the ecology and has already trialed a
25-ton collector robot designed to harvest these nodules. However,a 2023 study
shows it can cause permanent destruction in the area.
Commercial mining is not yet permitted in international waters. The International
Seabed Authority (ISA)is still determining how,and under what conditions, mining
should be allowed. After 28 years of debate, its 168 member states still lack formal
agreement.While companies advocate using nodule-collecting robots,437 scientists
from 44 countries demand an immediate stop.ISA studies confirm that just 10%
mining of the CCZ may wipe out 50%of its species.
Nor is it certain that cobalt mining will even be all that important in car-battery
technology. Many battery companies are trying to recycle cobalt from spent batteries
In March, several major European carmakers jointly stated that they would not buy
any metals produced from deep-sea mining before the environmental risks are
"completely understood".Meanwhile, several Chinese electric vehicle producers have
already made the switch, recycling up to 95%of metals from used batteries."Why
rush to mine the ocean for metals becoming outdated?"said battery expert Gavin
Harper.
On June 8,21 marine scientists from 8 universities finished a six-week research
in the CCZ and packed up seafloor samples to take back to their labs for further
analysis."An assessment of the mining's impact will take years of research,"says
Andrew from Edinburgh.'I'm trying to get the best environmental data. And then it's
up to society to make the decision to go ahead."
28.Why are the nodules called "a battery in a rock"?
A.They contain valuable metals.B.They have recharging qualities
C.They own battery-like structures.D.They generate renewable power.
29.What can be inferred about the ISA?
A.It prioritizes economic interests.B.It is cautious about seabed mining.
C.It opposes commercial operations.D.It requires more technical support.
30.What does the author want to illustrate in Paragraph 4?
A.Deep-sea mining meets demands.B.Carmakers reuse battery materials.
C.Battery recycling needs promoting.D.Seabed mining for cobalt can wait.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Marine Mining,a Green Solution B.Cobalt, the Future of Batteries
C.Ocean Metals,an Ocean Risk?
D.CCZ,the Treasure Unknown?

A recent robot sports competition showed humanoid robots running, falling,
getting up,and continuing to the finish line. This event reflects the current state of AI
and has raised public awareness. At the same time, rising AI stock (prices show
that investors are optimistic about its future.
In China, using AI in work and daily life has become a national goal.Last month,
the State Council released a plan for the "AI+"initiative. This plan aims to bring AI
into all industries over 10 years,in three stages,to build new smart economic and
social systems.
A survey shows that 53.1%of people are excited about Al,26%are pleasantly
surprised, and 11%feel negative. This optimism comes from the belief that AI will
change life just like mobile internet did. This is similar to the success of China's
"Internet+"plan over the past ten years, which helped improve industries and people's
lives.
However,AI also brings worries. Some fear that AI"silicon ()-based workers"
might take human jobs, and that relying too much on AI could weaken human
thinking skills.Research from MIT found that people who use AI a lot have weaker
brain connections.Other current problems include "black boxes"(when AI gives
unpredictable results because it learns from data)and "model hallucinations"(when
AI gives wrong answers based on untested data).
Although some people are worried, this will not stop AI from moving forward. As
an important area in global competition,AI's development is certain. The "Al"plan
also focuses on safety and includes rules to prevent misuse.Like other major new
technologies in the past,AI will need time to improve.Experts say today's problems
will help the industry become more careful and lead to important breakthroughs in the
future.
32.What is the main goal of China's "AI+initiative mentioned in the text?
A.To reduce the price of AI stocks.
B.To combine AI with all industries.
C.To stop people from using AI in daily life.
D.To make AI robots win all sports competitions
33.Why are many people optimistic about AI?
A.Because they think AI will change life
B.Because AI will replace all human jobs.
C.Because AI can solve all health problems.
D.Because AI robots are faster than humans.
34.What does the underlined phrase"model hallucinations"mean?
A.AI robots making errors during tasks
B.Weaker brain connections in AI users.
C.AI mistakes caused by unproven data.
D.Unpredictable results from AI learning from data
35.What is the author's attitude toward AI's future?
A.Totally indifferent,ignoring AI.
B.Fully negative,fearing job losses

C.Deeply doubtful,questioning AI's value.
D.Cautiously hopeful,balancing risks and progress
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有
两项为多余选项。
In everyday communication,we exchange not only logical information but also
emotions, attitudes and inner states.Since human beings are emotional creatures, our
decisions, whether significant or trivial, are often driven more by emotions than by
pure reason. Therefore,to express strong emotions clearly,we tend to use words like
very,so and truly in daily language.36
Verbal intensifiers (are special function words that enhance the meaning,
especially the emotional meaning of the words they are attached to.37
According to Buzarov(1998),intensification is a stable and vital feature of informal
language.Words such as awfully, deeply, tremendously, and truly help speakers
strengthen emotional impact and influence listeners'psychological perception.
38 In English,we often say "I am deeply grateful"or"He is dead tired."
Other languages also have similar words:oyer in Russian, sehr in German, tres in
French. Some new intensifiers are even created by combining words, like fantabulous
from fantastic and fabulous.
To make the most of intensifiers,we should use them with a clear purpose.Do
not use them mindlessly.39 Connect them with your genuine attitude and
focus on conveying precise emotions. This way, appropriate use of intensifiers will
make our words more powerful and sincere.
Intensifiers, like any other linguistic tool, work best in the right context.
40 However, overusing them without necessity will only weaken their
expressive effect and make our words sound empty.Mastering them wisely helps us
become more proficient and persuasive communicators.
A.Proper use is a smart linguistic choice.
B.These function words have great expressive value
C.You'd better use them to express real ideas and emotions.
D.Using intensifiers at will influences emotional expression
E.Intensifiers are used to simplify the meaning of other words.
F.This is why verbal intensifiers have emerged in languages worldwide
G.They are commonly employed across languages and take on diverse forms.

This was only Amy's first year at SunRay Tech, yet she already felt like an old
hand.
She read market reports on the subway, ate salad at her desk, and even practised
her presentation while brushing her hair. Her small apartment,a thousand miles from
home, witnessed all her efforts:notes, charts and presentation drafts covered the
living-room table.
"Amy,you're on fire!"her manager laughed one Monday. The words kept Amy
smiling all afternoon.Then a company e-mail arrived:
Amy,congratulations!You are this year's Outstanding New Employee.Please
give an eight-minute speech at the company's annual meeting on Sunday morning.
Amy's heart jumped. She read the message again and again. That night she sat at
her desk and wrote about the coffee that grew cold, the code that finally worked at 2
a.m.and the pride she felt when her first project helped the team win a new client
Yet,from time to time,a faint guilt brushed her heart. She remembered her
mother's soft voice in their last video call:"Don't work too hard, sweetheart,You're
already great.Come home for a rest."Each time Amy whispered to herself,"Next
month,Mum -on your birthday."
She spent the next evenings perfecting every word and gesture. On Saturday
evening she felt ready. Then the phone rang.It was Dad.
"Amy,tomorrow's your mum's fiftieth birthday.We're planning a simple lunch.
When are you coming home?"
Mum's birthday!How could I forget?Shame washed over Amy.She opened her
mouth, but no words came out.The meeting, the carefully prepared speech and her
colleagues'proud smiles all suddenly felt heavy in her chest.
"Dad,the company's annual meeting is also tomorrow.I was supposed to give a
speech as the Outstanding New Employee..."Her voice was tight with conflict.
"Oh,congratulations,sweetie.I understand-it's a big day.Your mum will be so
proud....Amy remained frozen for a moment, not knowing how the call ended. Then
her eye fell on her family photo on the desk, with her parents on either side.
