The monarch butterfly is a well-known black-and-orange insect in North America. Every year, millions of them travel from Canada and the northern United States to Mexico to spend the cold winter.
Sadly, the butterflies were in danger (濒危) in 2022. They faced many threats. Farm chemicals (农药) in the US harmed their food and living places. Bad weather and climate change made their journey even harder. Besides, many forests in Mexico were cut down. All these caused them to lose their safe winter homes.
To help the monarch butterflies, the WWF teamed up with local villagers on protection work. In Mexico, they worked with people in the villages to plant thousands of evergreen trees. This helped to turn more land back into forests. In the US, the group told local farmers to cut down the use of harmful farm chemicals. It made safer homes for the butterflies.
Because of their hard work, in March 2026, a report from the WWF brought encouraging news. The butterflies covered 7.24 acres (英亩) of forest in their winter homes, much higher than 4.42 acres last year. This clear change meant there were 64% more monarchs than last year.
Monarch butterflies help plants grow and keep nature balanced. Protecting them benefits forests and other wild animals. If we work together, the butterflies can continue their amazing journey for many years to come.

A lovely activity, Textbook Relay (接力), is now popular with young Chinese travellers. They bring their old middle school textbooks to famous sights (景点) like the Pyramids in Egypt and Big Ben in London. They take photos with the books next to the real sights. Then they put these books in secret corners (角落) near the sights for other Chinese travellers to look for.
After people find these books, they take photos and write warm short messages inside. Some people also put small gifts like candies or postcards beside the books. For them, these textbooks are a common memory — they were the first “windows” for students to see the world. These people feel proud because their early dreams finally come true.
Lots of people share their interesting relay stories on short-video apps after going back home. Websites and local shop keepers help this activity become more popular. A restaurant near Big Ben gives free textbooks and drinks to people who join in it. In this way, these old books and handwritten words create warm friendship among young Chinese travellers.
