Reflecting
Review and complete the tasks below.
1. Which part of space exploration interests you the most?
2. What is your dream for space exploration?
3. Why do you think human beings want to explore space?
4. Can you talk about future space exploration using the passive voice?
5. Can you talk about China's achievements in space exploration?
Review and complete the tasks below.
1. Which part of space exploration interests you the most?
• I am most interested in China‘s space lectures(太空授课).
• What interests me most is searching for life in the solar system.
→ I have watched some of them and I think they are amazing.
→ It’s a great way to inspire students like me to learn science.
→ curious about whether there is life on Mars or other planets.
→ it will change our understanding of the universe completely.
• I am most interested in space tourism.
→ ordinary people can travel to space in the future.
→ I want to see the Earth from space and experience weightlessness.
Review and complete the tasks below.
2. What is your dream for space exploration?
• My dream is that humans can live on the moon in the future. I hope we can build homes, schools, and hospitals there. Maybe one day, people can take holidays on the moon.
• My dream is that China will send astronauts to Mars. I want to see Chinese people walk on Mars and bring back new discoveries. I hope this will happen in my lifetime.
• My dream is to become an astronaut one day. I want to fly into space, do scientific experiments, and see the beauty of the Earth from above. I know it‘s hard, but I will work hard to make it come true.
• My dream is to become a space scientist. I want to design new spaceships or satellites that can help humans explore farther into space. I believe science can make our world better.
Review and complete the tasks below.
3. Why do you think human beings want to explore space?
• Because we are curious about the unknown. We always want to know what is out there, whether there is other life, and how the universe works. It is part of human nature to discover new things.
• We need new resources. The Earth has limited resources, so we may need to find new energy or minerals from other planets. This can help us solve problems like energy shortages.
• To protect human beings. In case the Earth becomes too crowded or damaged, we may need to live on other planets. Space exploration is about preparing for our future.
• Exploring space drives the development of science and technology. Many inventions, such as satellites and GPS, come from space research. This makes our lives better and more convenient.
Review and complete the tasks below.
4. Can you talk about future space exploration using the passive voice?
• In the future, more research stations will be built on the moon and tourists will be taken to the moon for holidays.
• I think more spacecraft will be sent to Mars in the future. New rovers will be designed to search for water and life.
• In the future, a special satellite may be built to collect the sun’s energy.
• In the near future, ordinary people will be invited to stay there. Astronauts will be trained to guide tourists, and new safety rules will be made to protect them.

Mission to the Mars
Space stations
In 2003, Shenzhou V was sent into space, and Yang Liwei was carried into orbit. He became the first Chinese astronaut. Since then, many astronauts have been sent to space.
The Chang’e probes were sent to the moon, and the Yutu rover was used to explore the lunar surface. In the future, more missions will be launched to study the moon.
Another big achievement is Tianwen-1. It was launched in 2020 and successfully reached Mars.
China’s Tiangong space station was built and now Chinese astronauts are living and working there. Space lectures have been given by astronauts like Wang Yaping, which inspire millions of students.
Step 3
More reading
—Space Lectures
1. Read and answer the questions.
• What is the goal of these space lectures?
• Why are they significant?
The goal of these space lectures is to encourage young people to learn space science and to discover the joy of scientific exploration.
a. They allow students to observe experiments in space and learn science in a direct and exciting way.
b. They inspire students’ curiosity and show that China has made great progress in space technology.
2. Read and fill in the table.
Time Who What
20 June 2013 First space lecture
9 Dec 2021 Tiangong crew How astronauts _____ and _____ in the station; how objects _____
23 March 2022 (astronauts) Performed _____ experiments
12 Oct 2022 Shenzhou 14 crew Introduced _____________ at Wentian lab; showed water-related phenomena
Future / More lectures are ________; students can ________ and _______ with astronauts.

3. Discuss the following questions in groups and share your ideas.
• Retell the story about space lectures to your partner in your own words.
China started its space lectures in 2013 with Wang Yaping. Since then, several more lectures have been given by different astronauts. These lectures not only show how astronauts live and work in space, but also demonstrate amazing science experiments that can only happen in weightlessness. Students are encouraged to do similar experiments on Earth to see the differences. The most exciting part is that students can communicate with astronauts in real time. More lectures are coming, and they aim to inspire young people to love science and exploration.
3. Discuss in groups and share your ideas.
• What suggestions can you give to the astronauts about the next space lecture?
I suggest that more time should be given for students to ask questions. In the next lecture, astronauts could answer questions from students in different cities. This will make the lecture more interesting and help students understand better.
I suggest that students on Earth should be invited to do the same experiments at the same time. Then we can compare the results and see the differences between space and Earth. This will make the learning more exciting and hands-on.
My suggestion is to invite students from other countries to join the next space lecture. They can ask questions and share their ideas. This shows that science has no borders and can bring people together.
