Nursena Burus is a 19-year-old girl from Turkiye (土耳其). Her sister studied AI in China. She encouraged Nursena to visit China too. That made Nursena get interested in Chinese culture and want to study in China, although her family and friends thought learning Chinese was too difficult.

An Unforgettable (难以忘怀的) Day of Zhang Guimei
On 17 February, 2021, Zhang Guimei was awarded (授予;奖赏) the Touching China Person of the Year title for her contributions (贡献) to improving girls’ education in remote rural (农村的) areas. Her love and care for her students deeply moved many Chinese.
Zhang Guimei is the highly respected founder and headmaster of Huaping Senior High School for Girls in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. She was born in Heilongjiang Province in 1957. At the age of 17, she moved to Yunnan to support the development of the country’s border regions (边疆地区). When working as a teacher at a local school, Zhang noticed that many girls were unable to go to school because they had to work and earn money to support (养活,支持) their families. To change this, she decided to set up a free high school for these girls. Zhang worked hard to raise money and hire teachers. In 2008, she founded China’s first free senior high school for girls with government support. Since then, the school has helped about 2,000 students to go to university.
“An educated girl can change the destiny (命运) of three generations (三代人) in a family,” Zhang said. “An educated and responsible mother will never allow (允许) her daughter to drop out of school.”

Zhang Guimei is the highly respected founder and headmaster of Huaping Senior High School for Girls in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. She was born in Heilongjiang Province in 1957.
