Dear Tom,
I'm Li Hua,a viewer of your vlogs.Since you enjoy capturing the real side of a city,I think
Beijing's hutongs would be a perfect fit.
Hutongs offer a glimpse into the warmer side of local life. Some authentic scenes like playing
chess or chatting over tea will add something special to your vlog. Here is a small tip:most locals
are fine with being filmed if you smile and point to your camera first.
Hope this helps! Can't wait to see what you make.
Yours,
Li Hua

Outside the store,Amelia caught up with the kind man.She tried to thank him,but the man,
who introduced himself as Michael, just smiled and said,"Take care of her. That's enough."
Hearing that,Amelia insisted that she would pay him back, explaining that something must have
gone wrong with her account.Seeing her determination,Michael wrote his address on a piece of
paper and placed it in her hand. Then he turned and walked away.Amelia folded the paper carefully
and put it in her pocket.
A few days later, with Lily in her carrier and the warm pie in her hands,Amelia made her way
to Michael's house. When he opened the door and noticed the pie,his eyes widened in surprise.
Amelia looked at him with a broad smile."It's an apple pie,the same kind I used to bake for my
family,"she explained.Michael nodded, simply stepping aside to welcome them in.As they sat
down and enjoyed the pie together, few words were needed to express their gratitude, for the bond
was already there.

M:It's called "In Praise of Slow".It discusses how the world sped up and how people are now

doing things right, not just doing them fast.
W:When and where was this "slow"idea born?
M:It originated in Italy in the early 1990s as the Slow Food Movement and has since spread
globally.
W:Have we tried to speed up things that can't be sped up?
M:Definitely.The Internet,while connecting us,also pressures us to rush relationships.People
claim thousands of online friends, yet a study in Britain found that in ten years, the number of
children without a best friend increased from under one in eight to nearly one in five.

“Non-player character” (NPC), originally a term from video games, now widely refers to live performers who interact with tourists as specific characters in China’s scenic spots. Since the beginning of this year, NPCs have become a “standard feature” in many places. During the May Day holiday, NPCs were among the most eye-catching highlights, with many travelers making special trips just to see them.
However, recent reports have pointed out “borderline” behaviors by NPCs in some scenic areas. What kind of attention should scenic spots be pursuing?
Zhang Tong believes that NPCs are designed as a key part of immersive cultural tourism. Through role playing, they turn cultural content into real experiences. However, some scenic spots use NPCs as ostentatious tools to catch visitors’ eyes, creating poor or even vulgar (低俗的)content. Such tricks may seem “entertaining” on the surface, but they are actually harming the industry’s image, especially with many teenagers visiting these spots.
In contrast, what is happening at Hetou Old Street in Tangshan deserves attention. The popular NPC “Li Bai” uses no exaggerated (夸张的) physical interactions. Instead, he engages in improvised (即兴的) conversations with visitors centered on classical poetry. Drawing on solid cultural knowledge, he weaves poetic sentiments into modern life. When visitors talk about work stress, he offers comfort using the wisdom of ancient scholars.
“Borderline” content may lower the cost of going viral, but its popularity will quickly fade. The culture-driven approach takes longer to bear fruit, but it will keep growing in value over time.
24. What can we learn about NPCs from paragraph 1?
A. They have gained great popularity. B. They are limited to video games.
C. They merely appear during holidays. D. They are professional stage actors.
25. What does the underlined word “ostentatious” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Time-saving. B. Cost-cutting. C. Risk-seeking. D. Attention-grabbing.
26. How is the NPC “Li Bai” different from many others?
A. He focuses only on young visitors.
B. He performs in a very dramatic way.
C. He focuses on the depth of his role.
D. He seeks a quick way to become famous.
27. Which is the best title for the text?
A. NPCs: A Popular Term from Games B. NPCs: Seeking Attention or Culture?
C. NPCs: A New Attraction for Tourists D. NPCs: Gaining Popularity or Knowledge?
C
Around 90% of people prefer using their right hand, a level of dominance (主导地位) unseen in any other primate (灵长类) species. Why humans became so strongly right-handed has long remained unclear.
Now, a new study led by the University of Oxford points to two key evolutionary changes: walking upright and the growth of the human brain. The team analyzed data from over 2,000 monkeys and apes. They examined factors including brain size, body size, and movement patterns.
Humans initially stood apart from every other primate in the analysis. However, that changed when researchers added two features: brain size and the ratio (比例) between arm and leg length, a marker of upright walking. The findings suggest that the combination of upright walking and larger brains may explain humans’ strong right-hand preference. The study also allowed researchers to estimate handedness in extinct human ancestors. Early hominins showed only mild right-hand preferences, similar to modern great apes. That pattern became stronger with later species, including Neanderthals.
One species stood out: Homo floresiensis, a small-bodied species nicknamed the “hobbit.” It had a much weaker right-hand bias, with a relatively small brain and abilities for both climbing and upright walking. The researchers believe this points to a two-stage process. First, walking upright freed the hands from moving, creating pressure for more specialized hand use. Later, as human brains grew larger, the right-hand preference became much stronger. Dr. Thomas A. Püschel, a lead researcher, said, “Our results suggest it is probably tied to some of the key features that make us human, especially walking upright and the evolution of larger brains.” The study also raises new questions, such as why left-handedness has persisted throughout human evolution.
28. What is the main finding of the new study?
A. Larger brains alone explain right-hand use.
B. Walking upright shapes hand preference alone.
C. Tool use is the key to human right-handedness.
D. Brain growth and upright walking work together.
29. What can we know about the right-hand preference in paragraph 3?
A. It is the marker of upright walking.
B. It becomes stronger in human species.
C. It is the unique skill owned by humans.
D. It changes the habits of modern great apes.
30. Why did the “hobbit” species have a weaker right-hand bias?
A. It had a smaller brain than other apes.
B. It used its hands only for climbing.
C. It had a small brain and climbed often.
D. It walked upright better than others.
31. What is Dr. Püschel’s attitude towards the study?
A. Cautious. B. Confident. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A puppy is a fun but demanding (高要求的) addition to your family. Your new puppy should be at least eight weeks old, as it’s not recommended to separate it from its mother before then. However, age is not the only thing you should consider.
32 Does its coat suit your climate? Is it small enough to live in your apartment or house? Does its energy level suit the amount of exercise you can provide? Careful consideration of these questions will ensure your puppy’s well-being.
33 The kitchen or bathroom is an ideal place for its bed during the day because those rooms are usually warm and have washable floors. At night, keep your puppy in its crate (笼子) in your bedroom. 34 This will allow you to hear it, so you will know if it needs to go outside.
Buy two metal bowls — one for food and one for water. 35 If you have other pets, be sure to give each pet its own set of bowls to avoid conflict. At feeding time, you will separate them to prevent fighting over food and to ensure each pet gets the nutrition (营养) it needs.
Choose the right puppy treats. Training treats should be healthy, small, and easily chewed (咀嚼). 36 You don’t want to wait around for them to finish eating when you want to continue the training.
A. Stay close to your puppy.
B. Choose a suitable living area.
C. Metal bowls are stable and clean.
D. Consider the cost of raising a dog.
E. Make sure the puppy is right for you.
F. However, don’t put his bed near the door.
G. They allow you to reward your puppy quickly.

At seventy-two, Amelia never imagined she would be raising her eight-month-old granddaughter, Lily, alone. Her daughter and son-in-law were working overseas temporarily, and Amelia had volunteered to help.
One cold Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Amelia realized they were completely out of baby food, so she put Lily into her carrier, wrapped her coat around them both, and went to the grocery store.
Inside, holiday music played, and people filled their carts with holiday supplies. As Amelia passed the fruit section, the sweet scent (香味) of crisp red apples caught her attention. She hesitated, remembering how she used to bake apple pies for the family, but she quickly shook her head — today, it was just Lily and her, and there was no need to bake for just the two of them.
At the checkout, she tried to smile. She slid her card into the machine and waited. “Beep. Card Declined (被拒).” Amelia’s heart sank. “Could you try it again?” she asked softly, her hands already starting to shake. The screen blinked back the same cold message.
Lily began to cry, her small voice rising in a way that made everything feel worse, and Amelia held her gently, whispering, “It’s okay, sweetheart, Grandma will figure it out,” even though she wasn’t sure how.
“Wait,” a voice cut through the tension. A man behind her stepped forward, his eyes holding a quiet understanding. Before Amelia could protest, he had already paid. The machine beeped once more, but this time it said “Approved.” He handed her the bags with a gentle nod and turned to leave.

(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

A few days later, Amelia made her way to Michael’s house, with Lily and a warm apple pie.
