A recent study in a British medical magazine shows that many kinds of foods we enjoy, such as chips, cookies, and ice cream, are all ultra-processed (超加工的). What are ultra-processed foods (UPFs)? In short, we can’t re-create them in our kitchen. They are usually made in factories. They have long lists of additives (添加剂) — some we may never have heard of.
The study shows that people may be very crazy about such food. We usually can’t stop eating it, or we may feel sad. But why do UPFs make us want to keep eating them all the time? Usually, natural foods are either high in sugar or high in fat. UPFs, however, are usually high in both. It makes us feel happier and want to eat more.
It is said that 14 percent of adults and 12 percent of children are crazy about UPFs. However, they cause problems to people’s health around the world. Eating too many UPFs will lead to a poor diet and increase the risks of serious illness. For example, people who love UPFs are more likely to get heart disease and certain cancers.
Governments are taking action right now. Some governments put taxes (税) on sugary drinks to make them more expensive, so fewer people will buy them. This idea can be used on the UPFs as well. Besides, in order to let people know the dangers of UPFs, companies should list the additives on their products. Finally, governments are asking companies to use fewer unhealthy additives in UPFs so that the food can be made healthier.
33. Which of the following is ultra-processed food?
A. B. C. D.
34. If people eat too many UPFs, they ________.
A. can solve their diet problems B. will find it easier to lose weight
C. can get heart disease more easily D. will naturally prefer natural foods
35. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Only 12 percent of adults are crazy about UPFs.
B. Governments are taking action to deal with UPFs.
C. UPFs are healthier because they make people happy.
D. Taxes on sugary drinks make people buy more of them.

Our class has made a survey on what kinds of movies teenagers like and the reasons why they like them.
According to the survey, most boys prefer science fiction movies and action movies. They think these films are exciting and full of adventure. The special effects and fast-paced stories make them feel thrilled.
Most girls, however, enjoy dramas and comedies. They find these movies more relaxing and touching. A good comedy can cheer them up, while a moving drama often makes them think deeply.
As for me, I like science fiction movies best. I am always amazed by the creative ideas about the future and technology. They also encourage me to imagine what our world might be like one day. I believe movies are not just for fun. They also help us understand the world and different people better.
