When I was about twelve, we were on holiday in Venice. My dad’s a photographer and he said that he was going to get up the following morning at 5 o’clock to take photos. Mum wasn’t interested, but I said I’d go with him, only because he promised I could have the biggest ever bowl of Italian ice cream if I did. Why else would I rise so early?
So at 5 a. m., we left the hotel and started walking. There was almost no one in the streets. As the sun began to come up, Dad started taking photographs and I just looked around. Every time he walked off, I followed him, down small streets and over little bridges.
After about an hour and a half, I found we lost our way and felt a bit scared, but Dad just smiled and laughed. “We’re lost!” he said. I told him to get out his map or phone. He looked at me. “Map? Phone? I only brought the camera. Come on, let’s get more lost.” He laughed again.
His laughter relaxed me and made me feel safe. We started to walk again. People were appearing on the streets — shops and cafes began to open, and as the sun came up, the narrow (狭窄的) streets started to fill with light.
Finally, after about another four hours of wandering around, we were back. Mum asked worriedly, “Where have you been?” I said with a big smile, “We got lost.”
These days we have so many things to stop us from getting lost — maps, GPS, apps on our phones and so on. But Dad showed me that being lost can sometimes simply be something to enjoy.

34. What did the writer think of his morning tour in the end?
A. Enjoyable. B. Scary. C. Terrible. D. Challenging.

C
Do you ever feel like there’s not enough time in the day? It seems that time is racing away from you, and it is impossible to fit everything in. But then, you step outside into the countryside and suddenly everything seems slower, more relaxed, like time has changed. It’s not just you — recent research shows nature can control our sense of time.
Richardo Correia, the researcher at the University of Finland, found that being in nature may change how we experience time and perhaps, even give us the sense of time abundance (充裕). Correia compared people’s experiences of time when they performed different types of tasks in cities and natural environments. It showed that people reported a sense of expanded time when they were in nature compared to when they were in cities. For example, a walk through the countryside felt longer than a city walk of the same distance.
It’s not just our sense of time in the moment which appears to be changed by the natural world, but it’s also our sense of the past and future. Earlier research shows that spending time in nature helps to move our focus from the immediate (目前的) moment towards our future needs. Instead of focusing on the pressure of the needs on our time, nature helps us to see the bigger picture. This can help us focus on what’s important so that we meet our long-term goals. This is partly because spending time in nature appears to make us less impulsive (冲动的), making us think more about future advantages instead of wanting immediate ones.
36. How does the writer begin the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By listing numbers.
C. By asking a question. D. By giving an example.
37. In what way did Correia carry out the research?
A. He did some surveys online. B. He studied earlier studies.
C. He interviewed many people. D. He compared people’s experiences of time.
38. What does the underlined word “expanded” probably mean?
A. Increased. B. Lost. C. Reusable. D. Real.
39. How does nature help with our sense of the future?
A. By meeting our needs. B. By changing our focus.
C. By showing us pictures. D. By reminding us of the past.
40. Which is the best title for the text?
A. What Time Brings Us B. Where Time Has Gone
C. How Nature Changes Our Sense of Time D. Why We Lose Sense of Time in Nature

Drones (无人驾驶飞机) can do lots of things for people, including taking pictures from the sky and watching wild animals. Now these small flying robots begin to change the ways of farming.
Looking for sick plants. Drones can find bacteria (细菌) that are harmful to plants in the air from a few kilometers away. Farmers can check the drones’ air samples (样本) and try to find ways to protect their plants before the bacteria get to them.
Counting cows. When flying over cows, drones can follow up the cows and find out which fences need fixing. There are also special cameras on drones. They can help farmers look for animals that could harm their cows.
Water watch. After watering the fields, we can often see some places may dry out faster than others. Other places might not get water at all. Drones can look over the field and make a 3D map. Using the map, farmers can find out which parts of a field are dry or need improvement.
Spraying pesticide (喷洒农药). Different parts of a field might have different heights. Drones can check for this when flying above the land. Then, they change their height so that they can spray the correct amount of pesticide over each part of the field. This is more useful than traditional pesticide spraying. Drones can finish spraying a field much faster than traditional machines.
Although drones can do a lot of things for people, drones still face great challenges and disadvantages. One of the biggest disadvantages is that they are affected by the weather.
