Dear Peter,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble persuading your parents to let you study in China. As
your friend,I completely understand how you feel.
To help you win your parents'support, here are my suggestions. To begin with, you can show them
the strong academic advantages of the Chinese university you apply for, which will help them realize that it
is a promising choice.Furthermore, you'd better explain that studying in China will allow you to master
Mandarin,a skill that will benefit your future career greatly.Above all, your detailed daily schedule and
safety plan will convince them you're mature enough to take good care of yourself.
I sincerely hope these suggestions can help you win their support soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
Finally, the day of the science exhibition arrived. The school hall was packed with students and
colourful displays.Every group was busy presenting their works, hoping to win the award. When it was
time for Sara and her group to present their project,I waited with nervousness, expecting to see a copy of
my project. However,I was shocked to find that their presentation was completely different from mine.At
that moment,I realized that Sara had successfully persuaded her group members.
My heart felt heavy with guilt, and I immediately went to ask Sara about their new project. Before I
could even speak,Sara smiled weakly and said,"I apologize to you again.I shouldn't have told others
about your ideas.I did my best to prevent them from using your ideas."She told me that she spent
several nights researching the new project in order to convince her team and that she couldn't let our
friendship be stolen away.I nodded with tears in my eyes, realizing true friendship means guarding each
other and fixing mistakes bravely together.

lowa has long been known as the heartland of farming in the U.S.But a changing climate and
environment are washing away soil and weakening its health. However, most family farmers here, who have
owned and worked the land for generations, recognize soil health is crucial in reducing the worst effects of
climate change.
Wendy Johnson left lowa to pursue a career in fashion in California in 2002.But when her
grandmother passed away,Wendy began thinking about the legacy()of the family farm:She didn't
want to see all the hard work her grandparents and parents put into the land here lost.
Thus,in 2010,Wendy returned and began co-managing the family farm,Center View Farm,with her
father.Center View Farm was already an early adopter of no-till farming then.Tilling the soil
actually degrades soil health.Experts estimate the planet loses billions of tons of rich soil each year. This
would be a disaster for the world's food systems unless regenerative agricultural practices, which help
fight climate change and grow food while restoring nature, are adopted. For example,in no-till farming,
new seeds are planted directly into the residue()of previous crops.
But Wendy wanted to do more.Since she moved back,Wendy has been working with Practical
Farmers of lowa(PFI),a farmer-led nonprofit,to innovate the way her family farms. She managed to plant
various cover crops to preserve the richness of the soil. She also attended the field days hosted by PFI that
help connect farmers and enable them to learn from each other's innovations. At one PFI field day,she
learned about organic animal raising Now,while Center View Farm continues to provide the main income
stream for her parents,Wendy started Joia Food Fiber Farm,a certified organic farm,to test other
restorative practices.
24.What motivated Wendy to return to lowa?
A.Her love of her grandmother.
B.Her promise to farm with her father.
C.Her dream of being a fashion designer.
D.Her desire to carry on her family's work.
25.Why is Center View Farm mentioned in paragraph 3?
A.To present a solution to low crop yields.
B.To provide a role model for local farmers.
C.To introduce a novel way to improve the soil.D.To stress the significance of smart agriculture.
26.What role did Wendy play in the PFI field days?
A.A generous sponsor.
B.An enthusiastic participant.
C.A responsible organizer.
D.A knowledgeable instructor.
27.What does Wendy's practice mainly indicate?
A.Farmers'legacy matters a lot.
B.Land is the lasting legacy for farmers.

Pancreatic()cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world. One major reason is that
early detection is extremely difficult.Patients usually show no obvious symptoms until the cancer has
already spread.By then, treatment options are limited and often fails.
Doctors typically use contrast CT scans to confirm pancreatic cancer. These scans require injecting
special dye into the patient's bloodstream and involve high levels of radiation.Because of this, experts
generally do not recommend widespread screening for healthy people.Noncontrast CT scans, which use
less radiation, are safer but produce less clear images. As a result, radiologists often struggle to spot early
signs of tumors(肿瘤)in these scans.
However,artificial intelligence may offer a solution.At the hospital where Dr.Zhu Kelei works,the
Affiliated People's Hospital of Ningbo University, doctors started using a new AI tool called PANDA,
short for "pancreatic cancer detection with artificial intelligence"as part of a clinical trial in November
2024.Developed by the Chinese tech giant Alibaba,PANDA is specially trained to find pancreatic cancer
in noncontrast CT scans.
The hospital has used PANDA to analyze over 180,000 abdominal and chest CT scans. The tool has
helped doctors detect about 24 cases of pancreatic cancer,20 of which were ductal adenocarcinoma, the
most common and deadly type.Among these,14 were found at an early stage, most of whom had come to
the hospital for unrelated complaints and their scans had not initially raised any concerns until the AI
system identified the problem.
Qiu Sijun,a 57-year-old retired bricklayer, went to the hospital for a routine diabetes checkup. The
AI tool had flagged something unusual in Mr.Qiu's CT scan.Further examination confirmed that he had
pancreatic cancer-but fortunately,it was still in the early stage.Dr.Zhu was able to remove the tumor
successfully.
Despite its promise, experts remind that PANDA is not perfect. It cannot replace pancreatic
specialists, sometimes confuses pancreatitis with cancer, and cannot determine whether a tumor started in
the pancreas or spread from elsewhere.Still,as a backstop for hospitals short of specialists, the tool offers
a valuable new line of defense against one of medicine's most stubbomn killers.
28.Why is early detection of pancreatic cancer difficult?
A.Patients avoid regular hospital visits
B.Contrast CT has poor image quality.
C.Symptoms show often after cancer spreads.
D.Screening tools are completely unavailable.
29.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A.AI spotted cancers initially ignored.
B.Most cases were already in late stages.
C.Patients mainly visited for cancer checks.
D.Ductal adenocarcinoma is easy to remove.
30.What does the underlined word "backstop"in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Trend.
B.Secret.
C.Barrier.
D.Support.
31.What is the experts'attitude toward PANDA?
A.Satisfied.
B.Cautious.
C.Unconcerned.
D.Disappointed.

In today's world, more and more young people use the intemet to connect with others. They even
keep in touch by sharing short videos on apps like TikTok and YouTube. However,it's often difficult to
tell if the content is good for them.Under this background, the Danish government announced to stop
children under 15 from using certain social media platforms. This plan shows a key problem for modem
parents:while social media is a big part of young people's lives, its possible harmful impact is becoming
more concerning.
The government made this decision based on distinct data and social trends.National surveys in
Denmark show that most children under 13 are already active on social media.Officials say that young
people are easily influenced by the questionable content on these platforms.Seeing one-sided opinions
can lead to poor thinking about complicated issues, which may weaken their ability to think
critically. Also, the need to be online all the time can ruin sleep quality and weaken the concentration
needed for leaming and healthy growth.
Nevertheless, putting this policy into practice is full of challenges. In a world where children can
easily access screens, the biggest problem lies in how to make it work effectively. The proposal suggests a
system with different rules for different ages:children aged 13 to 15 need parental agreement, while those
under 10 are not allowed at all.Denmark also has to talk with big technology companies, since they often
care more about their data and profit than users'health, especially for younger users.
Denmark's decision marks an important change.For other countries,like Australia,Denmark's
experiment will be watched closely. It raises a basic question:in the digital age, does creating a safer
environment for children require us to rethink the boundaries of the online world itself?
32.Why did the Danish government announce the social media ban?
A.To protect children from unproven information.
B.To address the harms of short-video on people.
C.To reduce the influence of technology advances.
D.To limit the digital interaction among all children.
33.What might be the result of being active on social media early?
A.Possible mental illness.
B.Efficient sleep patters.
C.Potential attention failure.
D.Sharp and critical mindsets.
34.What can be inferred about the practice of the ban?
A.It achieved certain impact.
B.It engaged cultural cooperation.
C.It proposed various strategies
D.It attracted efforts from companies.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Rethinking the Digital Playground
B.Denmark's Challenge in Digital Age
C.The Global Fight Against Social Media
D.Social Media on Children's Development

Tai Chi vs Aerobics(有氧运动):A Surprising Winner for Your Heart Health
For a long time, many people have viewed tai chi as a slow, gentle activity more suited for relaxation
than for serious physical fitness. The common belief is that to get real health benefits, especially for the
heart, you need more energetic exercises like running or cycling.36
The groundbreaking research, published in a leading medical journal, focused on individuals with
prehypertension-a condition where blood pressure is elevated (but not yet classified as full
hypertension().In the study,a total of 342 participants were randomly divided into two groups to
test different exercise approaches. One group practiced the standardized 24-movement Yang-style tai chi
for an hour, four times a week.37 Both groups continued their routines for a full year.
The results were clear and significant.A year later, the tai chi group showed a noticeably greater
reduction in blood pressure readings compared to the aerobic group.38This data strongly suggests
that the gentle, flowing motions of tai chi might trigger()a more beneficial physiological response for
blood pressure regulation.
Why is this ancient practice so effective?Medical experts point to its unique combination of physical
movement and mental focus. One primary reason is its profound calming effect.39 This makes it an
ideal, sustainable exercise for older adults and for those in recovery who might find high-impact activities
challenging.
Interestingly, tai chi is not the only traditional mind-body exercise offering such advantages.40
However,Baduanjin is often seen as a gentler introduction to this type of practice,as it places less
immediate demand on core strength and leg muscles, while being excellent for improving overall
flexibility. Both practices highlight the powerful health potential of integrating slow movement with focused
breathing
A.About one in four tai chi participants reached normal blood pressure, compared to fewer than one
in six aerobic exercisers.
B.Studies show a similar type of gentle exercise,Baduanjin, can also help manage blood pressure.
C.Recent Chinese research challenges this, showing tai chi's unexpected heart health benefits.
D.The benefit comes from its slow movements and deep breathing, which help reduce stress.
E.The comparison group did standard aerobic exercises like jogging,on the same schedule.
F.This proves gentle exercise is always better, making intense workouts unnecessary.
G.The real difference may be its focus on being mindful and controlling breath.

Last month, our school arranged a science exhibition, and everyone was excited to show their creative
projects. My best friend,Sara, and I were planning to work together, but our teacher reorganized the groups
and,unfortunately,we were separated.I decided to make a unique project-a solar-powered water
cleaning model-and discussed the core design secrets with Sara.
Later,I accidentally learned that she told the members of her new group about my idea during a
project discussion. The leader of her group,a girl named Megan, was thrilled and thought my project idea
was very unique. She immediately decided to adopt my idea as their own design. When Sara realized the
seriousness of the situation, she firmly refused to share the full design details I had shown her, saying,
"This project idea belongs to my best friend!"But Megan refused to listen, insisting they could figure out
the mechanics themselves based on what Sara had already mentioned.Sara told me immediately and I
became annoyed with her."Why did you tell my idea to others? Were you deliberately doing that?"I
cried. Our friendship felt like it was hanging by a thread.
In the following days,Sara explained that she was doing her best to persuade her new team not to
present the same project as mine. She tried to explain her position and sincerely apologized for her
mistake, but I ignored her and kept blaming her.Days passed, and I still didn't talk to Sara.
During the rest days of preparation, all teams devoted themselves greatly to their projects and made
use of all moments and resources to improve their performance and perfect their presentations.I noticed
Sara's team was often in heated arguments.Sara looked exhausted and spent all her free time doing
research in the laboratory. The exhibition was drawing nearer and nearer;the school was filled with
enthusiastic discussions about the upcoming science exhibition.
