Passage A(介绍了F.A.S.T.
Do you ever learn something but forget it soon after? Don’t worry. Maybe the F. A.S. T. method can help you.
F is for Forget Start with an empty mind. Imagine your mind as a cup: If it is full, it can’t hold anything new. Most people enter new learning experiences carrying what they already “know”, and that’s wrong. When you’re open to new ideas, your brain works better, Actually, forgetting is about making room for more.
A is for Active You can’t learn to ride a bike just by watching—you need to try it yourself. Active learning is the same: Doing is more important than watching. For example, when studying history, think about how it relates (关联) to the present. This helps your brain work harder and store (储存) information longer.
S is for State Your feelings play an important role in memory. If you’re bored or worried, you won’t remember well. But if you’re excited or interested, it’s easier for you to remember. Some acts, such as moving your body and standing up more, can also improve your state and memory.
T is for Teach Teach what you’ve learned to others. Teaching makes your thoughts clear. For example, if you learn to cook, tell someone else the steps, This helps you learn cooking better. The same goes for other things.
Learning isn’t magic—it’s a skill. Practice the F.A.S.T. method to learn better.
1.What should you do first before studying according to the “F”?
A.Use your imagination. B.Create new learning experiences.
C.Share new ideas. D.Empty your mind.
2.What is the writer’s purpose of sharing the example of learning history in Paragraph 3?
A.To make readers interested in history. B.To show learning is not difficult.
C.To explain active learning clearly. D.To advise people to learn history wisely.
3.What will you do according to the “Teach” step of the F.A.S.T. method?
A.Help my classmates to learn what I’ve learned. B.Tell others to remember steps.
C.Join a study group with friends. D.Move and stand up more in class.
1.原句:Imagine your mind as a cup: If it is full, it can’t hold anything new.
Imagine your mind as a cup;imagine...as... 想象成……”;冒号后是条件状语从句If it is full,主句it can’t hold anything new用来解释前一句话的道理。
2.原句:Most people enter new learning experiences carrying what they already “know”, and that’s wrong.
Most people enter new learning experiences, and that’s wrong;carrying what they already “know”是现在分词短语作伴随状语;what they already “know”是宾语从句,作 carry 的宾语。
3.原句Some acts, such as moving your body and standing up more, can also improve your state and memory.
Some acts can also improve your state and memory;such as moving your body and standing up more是插入语,两个动名词短语并列,用来举例修饰主语 Some acts。
【答案】1.D 2.C 3.A
【导语】本文介绍了F.A.S.T.
根据第二段“F is for Forget Start with an empty mind.”
2.根据第三段“A is for Active... Active learning is the same: Doing is more important than watching. For example, when studying history, think about how it relates to the present.”
3.根据第五段“T is for Teach Teach what you’ve learned to others.”可知,F.A.S.T. A“Help my classmates to learn what I’ve learned.”
别担心,F.A.S.T.
F 代表 Forget(清空杂念)
A 代表 Active(主动参与)
S 代表 State(调整状态)
T 代表 Teach(讲授输出)
坚持运用 F.A.S.T.
PassageB(提升记忆力的五个小妙招)
Five Tips to Improve Your Memory
Most of us know that our brains become smaller in size as we get older, but did you know that diet and lifestyle have an effect on how well our brains work?
A study shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins (蛋白质) improves memory. 1 Eating oily fish or dark chocolate (with over 70% cocoa) and taking vitamin D3 can also help make your memory stronger.
2 A 2011 study showed that regular exercise actually increased brain size. Another study found that exercise improved memory in some older people; surprisingly it found that one single training period had the same effect on memory as a regular, long exercise period!
One study found that eight weeks of short, daily meditation (冥想) improved memory. Other ways to relax can also improve our short-term memory. Try taking 5-10 minutes of your day to meditate or listen to music. 3
Experts say that age reduces our ability to learn, but sleep can help. 4 A 2019 study found that students learned things better before and after a short sleep!
5 Try to memorize information like phone numbers and addresses rather than putting the information in your phone. You could also learn a language or do brain training like crosswords
A.Or even just take a shower!
B.It’s important to keep a healthy body.
C.The role of exercise is really important, too.
D.To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.
E.For your brain to work well, 7-9 hours of sleep is necessary.
F.Try to avoid (避免) sugary foods such as cakes and milk chocolate.
【答案】1.F 2.C 3.A 4.E 5.D
1.第二段中“A study shows that eating lots of fruit, vegetables and proteins improves memory.” 后文“Eating oily fish or dark chocolate...can also help make your memory stronger.” 空处应补充另一条饮食建议,即避免含糖食物,F选项“Try to avoid sugary foods such as cakes and milk chocolate.”
2.第三段中“A 2011 study showed that regular exercise actually increased brain size.” 空处应作为本段主题句,引出运动的重要性,C选项“The role of exercise is really important, too.”
3.第四段中“Try taking 5-10 minutes of your day to meditate or listen to music.” 空处应补充另一种放松方式,A选项“Or even just take a shower!”
4.第五段中“Experts say that age reduces our ability to learn, but sleep can help.” 空处应具体说明所需睡眠时长,后文“A 2019 study found that students learned things better before and after a short sleep!” E选项“For your brain to work well, 7-9 hours of sleep is necessary.”
5.第六段中“Try to memorize information like phone numbers and addresses rather than putting the information in your phone.” 空处应概括本段主旨,即需要主动使用大脑,D选项“To keep your brain in good condition, you need to use it.”

A good memory is often seen as something that comes naturally, while a bad memory is something that cannot be changed.
In fact, there is a lot that you can do to improve your memory. Here are some tips for you.
◆Take an interest.
We all remember the things we are 1 (interest) in, and always forget the ones that bore us. This explains the reason why schoolboys remember football results 2 (easy) but struggle (挣扎) with dates from their history lessons!
Develop an active interest in what you want to remember. One way to make 3 (you) more interested is to ask questions-the more, the better!
◆Repeat things in chunks (块).
Repeating things in chunks is 4 best way to remember things in a short time. For example, remembering a phone number for a few 5 (second). Grouping numbers may help you to remember them.
The following numbers , would be impossible for most of us to remember: 1492178919318483. 6 look at them in “groups” or “chunks” repeatedly and it becomes much easier: 149 217 8919 318 483.
◆Invent a story.
To remember long lists, try 7 (invent) a story which includes all the things you want to remember.
In experiments, people 8 (be) asked to remember up to 120 words using this way. When they were tested later, they could remember 90% 9 them. The test result was really amazing!
◆Take physical exercise.
Physical exercise is important for your memory and it sends more oxygen (氧气) to your brain, and that 10 (make) your memory work better.
Exercise also lowers stress. As we know, too much pressure is very bad for the memory.
1.interested 2.easily 3.yourself 4.the 5.seconds 6.But 7.to invent 8.were 9.of 10.makes
interest“感兴趣”,动词,结合“are…in”可知,此处应用其形容词形式与之搭配,be interested in sth.“对某事感兴趣”符合语境。故填interested。
3.句意:让你自己更感兴趣的一个方法是问问题——越多越好!you“你”,代词,又根据“Develop an active interest in what you want to remember.”
根据“…best way to remember things in a short time.” 故填the。
second“秒”,名词,又结合“for a few…”
前句“The following numbers, would be impossible for most of us to remember”与“look at them in ‘groups’ or ‘chunks’ repeatedly and it becomes much easier”之间表示转折关系,应用but表示“但是”,句首首字母大写。故填But。
invent“发明”,动词,又结合“try…a story”可知,此处应用其不定式形式与之搭配,try to do sth.“试着做某事”符合语境。故填to invent。
故填were。
根据“to remember up to 120 words using this way. When they were tested later, they could remember 90%…them. ”可知,在人们被要求记120个单词之后的测试中,人们还能记得“其中的90%”,应用介词of与之搭配,表示所属,意为“……的”,故填of。
make“使”,动词,又结合“it sends more oxygen to your brain, and that…your memory work better.”

Passage 2
If you’ve ever found yourself forgetting where you left your keys or forgetting information on important tests, you’ve probably wondered how to improve memory. There are a lot of things for you to do to improve your memory.
Focus your attention
Attention is one of the most important parts of memory. In order to move information from your short-term memory into your long-term memory, you need to actively attend to the information. Try to study in a place without television, music, and games. Remember, set aside a period of time to be alone. Ask your roommates to give you some space so you can focus on your work.
Remember important information
Have you ever noticed how it is sometimes easier to remember the information at the beginning or the end of a passage? Researchers have found that the order of information can play a role in recalling (回忆起) things. But recalling the middle information can be difficult. You can solve this problem by spending more time remembering this information.
Read out loud
Researchers have found that reading materials (材料) out loud can improve your memory for the materials. Students can use this way to remember words, sentences and passages. When using this way, you’d better ask others around you for permission or do together.
Get a good sleep
Researchers have long known that sleep is important for memory and learning. Research has shown that taking a short rest after you learn something new can actually help you learn faster and remember better. So the next time you want to learn new information, consider getting a good sleep after your study.

Passage 3
Have you ever wondered why you can remember your childhood birthday parties clearly but forget a new phone number within 10 seconds? Human memory is an amazing and complex (复杂的) ability that shapes our daily lives, learning and growth, and it has always been a hot research field for scientists.
Memory can be divided into short-term memory and long-term memory, and their functions are quite different. Short-term memory only stores a small amount of information temporarily (暂时地). Scientific research shows that the average adult’s short-term memory can only hold 5 to 9 pieces of independent information at a time, and this information will disappear quickly if not repeated in time. For example, when you look up a phone number and dial it immediately, you make use of short-term memory, but you may forget it completely after hanging up. But long-term memory can store almost endless things. It can store knowledge, experiences and skills for many years, even a lifetime. A typical example is that many elderly people can clearly recall every detail (细节) of their first day at school more than 60 years ago.
Dr. Linda Smith, a famous cognitive psychologist (认知心理学家) at Indiana University, pointed out: “Memory is not a simple box for keeping things, but a busy and active system. If you learn things again and again, try to remember things actively, and link new ideas with old knowledge, you can make your long-term memory much stronger.” This view explains why students who review their lessons regularly do better in exams than those who stay up late to study right before exams.
★ First, get enough sleep. Teenagers should sleep eight to nine hours every night, as the brain makes memories stronger during rest. Staying up late harms memory badly. Second, review actively. You can retell knowledge or draw mind maps without books. This helps your memory more than simple reading.Third, divide learning tasks—memorize 10 new words each time instead of 50, to reduce short-term memory pressure. Proper daily exercise and brain-healthy food like nuts and fish also help a lot.
1.What is the purpose of the first question at the beginning?
A.To show the writer’s rich knowledge. B.To attract readers and introduce the topic.
C.To explain the fact of daily life. D.To give an example of poor memory.
2.According to the passage, why can many elderly people clearly recall every detail of their first day at school more than 60 years ago?
A.They eat brain-healthy food from an early age.
B.They receive training from cognitive scientists.
C.They have a strong short-term memory ability.
D.They keep the information in long-term memory.
3.Which sentence can be put in the ★ ?
A.Why is memory so important for our daily study?
B.What exactly is short-term memory in our brain?
C.How can students improve their memory effectively?
D.What do scientists think of long-term memory?
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Staying up late does no harm to our memory.
B.Repeated learning helps improve long-term memory.
C.Short-term memory can store endless information.
D.It is impossible to improve our memory.
5.What is the best title of the passage?
A.The Secrets of Human Memory B.Different Ways of Daily Study
C.A Great Cognitive Psychologist D.How to Get Better Grades
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.B 5.A
1.文章开篇提出“Have you ever wondered why you can remember your childhood birthday parties clearly but forget a new phone number within 10 seconds?”
2.根据第二段“But long-term memory can store almost endless things. It can store knowledge, experiences and skills for many years, even a lifetime. A typical example is that many elderly people can clearly recall every detail (细节) of their first day at school more than 60 years ago.”
Second, review actively. Third, divide learning tasks...Proper daily exercise and brain-healthy food like nuts and fish also help a lot.”
4.根据第三段“Memory is not a simple box for keeping things, but a busy and active system. If you learn things again and again, try to remember things actively, and link new ideas with old knowledge, you can make your long-term memory much stronger.”
The Secrets of Human Memory”作为标题最合适。
Passage 4
Your memory plays an important role in your life. It helps you remember who you are, where you live, what you have learnt and what you plan to do in the future.
1
First, it is helpful to live a mentally active life. Make a point of trying new things. For example, you will exercise your brain if you learn to play a new instrument or learn a foreign language. 2 In memory linking, you make mental connections to help you remember things. For example, you can make up a story to link items in a list so that you will remember them. You will be exercising your brain as well as improving your memory!
Second, if you live a healthy life, your memory will work better. Healthy eating habits are especially important, and a healthy diet helps maintain a good memory. 3 What’s more, regular physical exercise and getting enough sleep also help improve your memory.
Last but not least, it is important to get plenty of rest. Unless you take time to relax, your brain will find it hard to remember things. 4
Everyone has moments of forgetfulness and memory tends to decline with age. 5 However, you can maintain and even improve your memory if you exercise your brain, live a healthy life and make time to relax!
A.Besides, if you get too stressed or worried, your memory will become less sharp.
B.For example, eating green vegetables, nuts, berries and oily fish can improve your ability to remember things.
C.So, how can you improve your memory?
D.You can also improve your memory with brain games, such as crosswords, word games and maths puzzles.
E.In this way, you are not only training your brain but also having fun.
F.Therefore, it is quite normal for people to experience memory loss as they get older.
