Long ago, students in China learned different subjects. They did not study math, science, or English like we do today. Instead, they studied the "Six Arts." These were six important skills for life.
The Six Arts were: rites(礼), music(乐), archery(射), charioteering(御), writing(书), and math(数). Rites taught good manners. Music was for singing and playing instruments. Archery meant shooting arrows. Charioteering was driving horse carriages(马车). Writing used brushes and ink. Math was for counting and measuring. Students learned both body and mind skills.
Today, we have many more subjects at school. We learn art, sports, and computers too. It is fun to know about the old ways. It helps us see how school changes. Let's enjoy all our subjects and learn new things every day!
