Cockatoos (凤头鹦鹉) are one of the most amazing birds in the world. As members of the parrot family, they live in Australia and parts of Southeast Asia. Their special good looks, cleverness and living in groups make them popular pets. Cockatoos live a long life — from 40 to 70 years.
One of the most unusual things about cockatoos is the crest (冠) of feathers (羽毛) on their heads.20 The birds can raise these feathers if they want. If it is excited or scared, a cockatoo will raise its crest to show its feelings.
It may not be easy for dogs to learn new skills, but it’s not a problem for cockatoos.21 Scientists believe they teach one another. In Sydney, Australia, these birds have learnt to open the dustbins (垃圾箱). Then they can enjoy the food inside. At first, only birds in a few places of Sydney could do it. But two years later, birds in 44 places learnt the skill. Cockatoos are also good at using tools.21 In the wild, some cockatoos use sticks to get insects from trees. Others use small stones to break open nuts.
Cockatoos naturally enjoy doing things ▲ . In the wild, they form large groups. They make different sounds to talk with one another. They join in playful activities such as dancing and cleaning each other’s feathers.
As pets, cockatoos can form strong relationships with their owners. But they need much care and attention. If they don’t get it, they can become bored and break things.
( C )19.How does the writer start the text?
A.By using a saying.
B.By telling a story.

①For animals, bad weather can be a big problem. Some animals like mice can go underground, but how do birds live on in bad weather?
②A bird’s feathers help to keep the bird warm. But if those feathers are full of rainwater, the bird’s body temperature (温度) could go down too quickly, and it could die (死亡).23
③Many birds can keep water away from their feathers by using something special in their tails. This makes them fly in the rain for short trips. Some animals may eat them if they can’t fly a long way, so most birds wait in trees or find a place to stay until the rain stops.24
④Storms (暴风雨) are more terrible. Luckily, some birds can tell when a storm is coming as they feel changes in air pressure (气压). So some may go away earlier to stay away from the storm, while others look for places to keep safe.
⑤Winter is also dangerous for birds because it snows a lot. Some birds get ready for winter by eating a lot of food to keep themselves warm while some birds fly to the south for the winter.25
⑥As you can see, birds have many ways against bad weather. Although danger is always around them, they will probably be just fine.
( A )23.What can we know from Paragraph 2?
A.Birds might get cold and lose their lives on rainy days.
B.Birds know how to keep themselves happy when it is rainy.
C.Birds think rain is noisy and stops them from sleeping well.
D.Birds with long tails will have a more difficult time in the rain.
( B )24.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Feathers. B.Birds.
C.Tails. D.Body temperatures.
( C )25.How do birds keep themselves warm in winter according to the text?
A.By making a big “house” in trees or eating a lot of food.
B.By flying to the cities or sleeping in people’s house.
C.By eating a lot of food or flying to a warmer place.
D.By sleeping all through the winter or flying to the south.
( C )26.What is the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
D

Why are animals in danger? First, people cut down too many trees so animals lose their homes. Second, some people also kill animals for their meat, fur or ivory.
Animals are our friends. It is not right to kill animals or take away their homes. We should plant more trees and stop killing animals. Let’s call on more people to save animals and make friends with them. If all of us try our best to protect animals, our home will become better and better.
