Reading — A Good Habit
Hello, everyone. I’m going to talk about reading—a good habit.
I have kept a good reading habit for a long time. I usually read books for half an hour every night before going to bed and take notes when I read.
Reading changes me a lot. It helps me get more knowledge and open up my eyes. It also makes me relaxed after busy study. I got the first prize in the speech competition last year. From then on, I became more confident.
My favorite book is The Little Prince. It is easy to read and full of meaningful stories. It teaches me to be kind to others. If you haven't read it,I recommend this book. Books are our best friends. Reading is really a good habit.
Let’s jump into the world of books and enjoy reading now!

In the fall of 2023, my husband got a chance to spend three years in Nanjing teaching international law. When we got to China I began to study Chinese. It was really hard for me to speak Putonghua.
For me, grammar was not a problem. Sentences like “I like this book” are quite easy to translate into Chinese “我喜欢这本书”. And I could memorize lots of Chinese characters. However, many words sound the same but mean something different, which always made me feel confused. Take the sound “jian” for example, does it mean the warship (舰) or the arrow (箭), to meet (见) or to build (建)?
Then, I started talking to people around me in Chinese. I tried to communicate with the women in the markets about how to cook vegetables. Sometimes I talked to taxi drivers about the songs on the radio. Gradually I could listen to songs and understand the meanings without looking them up. I finally reached the point where I could enjoy living in China without using a dictionary.
Now our time here is coming to an end and we are preparing to leave. I find my Chinese has improved. I search Baidu Maps in Chinese, keep my mobile phone Contacts (通讯录) in Chinese, and send We Chat messages to friends in Chinese. But mostly, I don’t worry about my performance anymore and enjoy speaking Chinese.
Every language is different. I’ve learned that the key to learning Chinese is to enjoy living in China.
4. When did the writer start to learn Chinese?

A. By learning Chinese grammar every day.
B. By talking with local people in Chinese.
C. By remembering plenty of Chinese characters.
7. What’s the secret to Chinese learning for the writer?
A. Enjoying living in China.
B. Using mobile phones more.
C. Studying grammar hard.

By the Tang Dynasty, flying kites had become a common daily activity.
Nowadays, Weifang in Shandong Province is known as the “kite capital of the world”. It holds an international kite festival every spring. Kite lovers from all over the world gather here to take part in the great event. During the festival, thousands of kites fly high in the sky. There are traditional kites that look like birds, fish and dragons, as well as modern ones like cartoon characters, spaceships and high-speed trains. Some huge kites are more than 200 meters long.
