Teen Talk
Discussion: My Way to Keep Family Memories Alive
Mei (14, Henan)
My way? Last month, I asked Grandma, “What games did you play at 12?” Right away, her eyes lit up! She told me excitedly about playing hopscotch (跳格子) with friends, making toy cars from bamboo sticks and many others I would never learn in any history class.
Grandparents are living history books with stories we can’t afford to lose. When we listen, we save treasures and make them feel loved.
Want to know more about your family? Interview them! Here are some common questions:
·What childhood food made you smile biggest?
·What old-time thing should I try?
·What’s the coolest thing I have but you didn’t?
Ben (15, Guangdong)
Last summer, I made a special family tree. I first found some old photos and took pictures of them with my phone. Then, I used AI to build our family tree online.
When my grandpa’s young photos appeared on the family tree, his eyes got wet! Later, as I typed (打字) in the dates and places our family once stayed, a timeline was created, showing how our family moved from Fujian to Guangdong back in 1925. Seeing how far back our family tree reached, Grandpa said with excitement, “Kid, you made our family history come alive.”
Ready to find out your family history? Give it a try this weekend!

20. Why are the three questions mentioned in Mei’s share?
A. To write an interesting story.
B. To teach some interview skills.
C. To open up families’ memories.
21. How did Ben build the family tree?
A. By using AI online.
B. By drawing with hands.
C. By making a photo wall.

B. It reminded him of the hard times.

In recent years, Harvard University’s “Learning Pyramid (金字塔)” has become very popular. Studies show that different learning ways can lead to very different results. In the pyramid, the lower the way is placed, the better students can learn through it.
At the bottom of the pyramid is the way of teaching others. It is used in the Feynman Technique (费曼学习法), and now schools use it too! For example, student Emma used it to learn science — and it worked!
Emma’s science notes
How I Understood Photosynthesis (光合作用)
Steps
Thinking
Step 1: Choose a point and break it down
I chose photosynthesis as the main point. Then I broke it into some smaller parts, such as why plants need sunlight and the role of water and CO₂.
This step is really necessary. It made me get a deeper understanding of the knowledge point.
Step 2: Explain like teaching a 6th Grader
I tried to teach in a kid-friendly way: Plants are like cooks! They use sunlight as heat, take in water from the soil, and get CO₂ from the air. Then they mix all these things in their “green kitchens”(which are their leaves) to make food called glucose (葡萄糖). After that, they give off O₂.
This is the heart of the Feynman Technique. It requires me to help kids understand by using the simplest and clearest language possible.
Step 3: Review the explanation
I realized I couldn’t explain why plants are green simply. So I asked my little brother — he said green is like plants’ special coat!
My brother’s young-kid view showed me a fun way to explain!
Step 4: ________
Using my brother’s fun idea, I improved my explanation: Plants have a friend called chlorophyll (叶绿素). It drinks sunlight! Green color? It’s his special coat for turning sunlight into growing energy!
This worked like magic! My brother could repeat the main idea — he truly got it.

Good morning, everyone! I’m Li Hua. Today, I’m glad to speak about my growth.
To me, growth means accepting imperfection, facing difficulties, and not caring too much about others’ thoughts.
Let me share a story. Once, I got 75 points in maths. I felt ashamed, thinking others talked about me. But my teacher’s note helped: “Stop worrying. Work for your future!” Then I corrected mistakes, asked for help and joined a study group. Next test, I made great progress—I knew imperfection isn’t failure.
This changed me. I used to fear criticism, but now I try my best. Every effort helps me grow!
That’s all. Thanks for listening!
