On September 3, 2025, China held a big military parade (阅兵) in Tian’anmen Square. It was to mark the 80th anniversary (周年纪念日) of winning the Chinese People’s War of
Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War (反法西斯战争). This event was very important to all Chinese people.
The parade had two main parts and lasted about 70 minutes. There were 45 teams in total. There were air flag teams, foot teams, equipment (装备) teams and so on. All the weapons (武器) shown were made in China, and many new kinds appeared for the first time.
This parade was very meaningful. First, it helped people remember history and respect the heroes who died for our country. Second, it showed how modern our army is and its ability to keep our country safe. Third, it told the world that China would keep the post-war order (战后秩序) and support global peace.
During the parade, people from different fields were invited, including some from Taiwan. This told us the war victory came from the unity (团结一致) of the whole Chinese nation. Also, the parade showed China’s promise to build a better world for everyone.
As teenagers, we should learn from history, study hard to improve our abilities and help our country develop. We must value peace and take action to keep it. The Chinese military is strong, but it will never use force (武力) to hurt other countries—it only wants to protect our country and people.

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th of the first month of the lunar calendar (阴历). This day is always the first full moon day in the new year. Ancient people also called it Shangyuan Festival. Celebrations and traditions on this day began from the Han Dynasty (朝代) and became popular in the Tang Dynasty.
Watching the red lanterns is one of the main traditions. Lanterns of different shapes and sizes are usually hung on trees, or along river banks on show. It is said that sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming to ask for help when he was in trouble. Today, when the lanterns slowly rise into the air, people make wishes.
Another tradition is guessing lantern riddles. The riddles are usually short, wise, and sometimes humorous. The answer to a riddle can be a Chinese character (汉字), a famous person’s name, or a place name.
The most important thing is to eat sweet dumplings with different tastes. In northern China, they are called yuanxiao while in the southern part they’re named tangyuan. Because making sweet dumplings is like a game or an activity, they are usually done happily by a group of friends or family members.
In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic. Watching lanterns gave young people a chance to meet each other. A line from Xin Qiji, a poet during the Song Dynasty, shows this:

Born with great challenges, Pang lived a hard life when he was a child. His father had a serious mental illness. His mother’s legs were cut off, so she could hardly move. Pang himself had a heart problem since he was born. He went door-to-door borrowing money for his mother’s illness. He also picked up waste things to make money and help pay off his family’s debts (债务). However, he never lost hope. He always believed “Knowledge can change life”.
In 2017, Pang entered Tsinghua University with a very high score in the college entrance exam. At first, he was worried that he might let others down. But later, he found his interest in scientific research. He kept trying even when he failed many times. Although money was still the problem, he decided to depend on himself. His mother named him “Zhongwang”, which means “the hope of everyone”. She always told him to look forward to the future. Pang once said, “Mom smiles every day—why should I feel sad?” Sadly, his mother passed away in 2020. That was just before he got the chance to study for a doctor’s degree at Tsinghua University. Now, Pang has written many important science papers and got patents (专利) for his inventions. His dream is to “serve the country through scientific research” and he works hard for this goal. His story lights the way for many people.

Hundreds and thousands of times I searched for her in the crowd. Suddenly I turned, and there she stood, in the dim (昏暗的) light.

The World Games is organized by the International World Games Association(协会). It is a sports event held every four years and it is mainly for non-Olympic sports.
The 12th World Games was held in Chengdu, China from August 7 to August 17, 2025. This year is special because it’s the first time the Chinese mainland hosts the World Games. That provides a chance for players to show their skills and pushes the development of different sports around the world. The event welcomed 6,679 players from 116 countries and places.
The 90-minute opening ceremony was wonderful. It showed Chengdu’s rich history and its modern, inclusive (包容的) and lively spirit. The theme of this year’s Games is “Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders (运动无限,气象万千)”. It sent out (传递) a strong message of “World, One Family”. The Games took place under the 430-meter-long “Tianfu Roof” (天府之檐), which is the largest wooden structure building in Asia. On August 16, 2025, Pang Zhongwang, a doctoral student from Tsinghua University, won the “Touching China 2024” Award. His story, from a young man who fights against heavy hardships (困难) to an encouraging character, has warmed many hearts.
That’s why he said no to people who raised money for him. Instead, he asked Tsinghua University for grants (补助金) and won the prizes for good grades.
As the award speech says, “You leave your hard times behind. You face life with a smile and move forward strongly.” Pang’s journey shows us that if we are strong and keep hope, we can live up to expectations and create our own bright future.

Welcome to the most friendly museum in London. In most museums, there is no shouting and no running, and you must not touch anything. But the Science Museum is different. It is noisy! People talk about what they can see and do here, and there are some very noisy machines as well. If you want answers to all your questions about science, this is the right place for you.
You can learn about communications and the environment as well as maths, physics and chemistry on the second and third floors. Besides, you can learn about how X-rays allow you to see inside your body.
On the third floor, there are lots of physics experiments you can do. You can also find out how people travel into space and back again.
On the fourth and fifth floors, you can learn about what medicine was like in the past. If you compare the medicine of the past with the medicine of today, you will feel very lucky next time you visit a doctor!
科学博物馆非常有趣,老少皆宜。You can always find something new and have a wonderful time there. The museum is free to enter, so you can go there freely. It is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. So if you ever go to London, make sure you visit the Science Museum.
