①Our world has many environmental problems. These problems are bad for our health and for our planet. But now, people are using new technology to help solve these problems.
②One helpful invention is the “smart rubbish can”. These rubbish cans are special because they have sensors (传感器) that can tell when they are almost full. When the rubbish can is nearly full, it sends a message to a computer at the garbage collection station. This system is very efficient because it allows the garbage trucks only to visit the cans that are full. This saves a lot of energy and it also helps the workers to save time.
③There is also technology to help with dirty air. Small machines are put around the city to detect the air quality all the time. The information they collect is sent to a website or an app that everyone can see. This helps people find areas with cleaner air for outdoor activities (like jogging or playing). Such information is especially useful for children and older people as their health can be more easily hurt by polluted air.
④For water pollution, scientists are developing special robots that can clean rivers and oceans. These smart robots swim in the water, find plastic waste, and collect it day and night. They help remove dangerous waste faster and more safely than humans, making water cleaner and safer for animals and people.
⑤All these examples show that technology is a powerful tool. If we use technology in the right way, we can make our planet a greener and healthier place.

The term “pre-made dish (预制菜)” has been a hot topic in the past few weeks. What are “pre-made dishes”? According to a 2024 government notice, they are prepackaged (预包装的) foods made from farms and factories. Pre-made dishes need heating or cooking before eating. Fresh vegetables and ready-to-eat foods such as salads and pizzas are not pre-made dishes.
Many people worry that the additives (添加剂) in pre-made dishes may cause health problems. Tan Guijun from Tianjin First Central Hospital told Xinhua that if these dishes are made, stored and cooked following food safety rules, they can provide enough nutrition (营养) for our bodies.
As the food industry grows quickly and life gets busier, many people agree that pre-made dishes have become unavoidable. However, what matters is that restaurants are honest (诚信的) with customers about what they’re serving. At present, there are no clear rules asking them to do so. Most businesses often choose not to provide this information.
Luckily, the government has worked to solve the problem. A draft (草案) of the national food safety standards for pre-made dishes has already been approved (认可) by experts. It will soon be open to the public. These standards clearly explain what pre-made dishes are, and restaurants will have to tell the public if and how they use them.

B. They are bad for people’s health even if stored rightly.

D. They are healthy if produced and cooked properly.
39. What’s the main problem about pre-made dishes in restaurants now?
A. Restaurants don’t have enough pre-made dishes to sell.
B. Restaurants are not clear to the public about using pre-made dishes.

Mangroves are special trees that grow in coastal areas where the land meets the sea. They are not like common trees because they can live in salty water.
However, in the 1970s, dry weather caused ocean water to enter many rivers. This made the water very salty and hurt large areas of mangrove forests. Similar salty water problems happened in the late 1980s and again around 2010. But scientists saw that the mangroves were not as hurt the second and third times. This suggests that the trees might be slowly learning to live with the salty conditions.
Mangroves cannot move to safer places with less salt. But nature has given them some special ways to help themselves. Some kinds of mangroves can stop most of the salt from entering through their roots. Other types put the extra salt into their old leaves and then drop these leaves. Young mangroves can also change how they use water inside their bodies to deal with more salt. However, these ways can only protect the trees a little and the salt remains a serious problem.
Scientists are now carefully studying these natural ideas to find better ways to help the mangroves. If they can find the strongest mangroves that are very good at keeping out salt, or if they can help make the genes (基因) for this skill stronger, the trees might have a much better chance of keeping alive when the water becomes salty again.
“Walking through a healthy mangrove forest is a wonderful experience. The trees are full of life, and the air is fresh,” says a scientist who studies coasts. “It would be very sad to lose such a beautiful place. This feeling makes us want to use all our knowledge to help save them for the future.”
41. What’s the function of Para.1?
A. To offer a suggestion. B. To introduce the subject.
C. To express an opinion. D. To answer a question.
42. What can we know from Para. 2?
A. Mangroves need dry weather to grow.
B. Mangroves started to get hurt in 1970.
C. Mangroves may be learning to deal with salty water.
D. Mangroves were hurt as badly in the 1970s as in the 1980s.
43. What is the biggest problem for mangroves?
A. They cannot drop their old leaves. B. They cannot protect themselves at all.
C. They cannot change their use of water. D. They cannot stop all the salt from hurting them.

A. We should try to protect mangrove forests.

C. It is too late to save the mangroves.
D. Scientists are not interested in mangroves any more.
45. What is the best title for the passage?

C. Frozen (冻的) chicken soup. D. Vegetable salads.
37. Why do many people dislike pre-made dishes?
A. They are usually expensive. B. They don’t have enough nutrients.
C. They might not be healthy. D. They are hard to keep fresh.

B. They are bad for people’s health even if stored rightly.
C. They don’t have nutrition for people to eat.

44. What do the scientist’s words in the last paragraph tell us?
A. We should try to protect mangrove forests.
B. Mangrove forests are not important.
C. It is too late to save the mangroves.
D. Scientists are not interested in mangroves any more.
