Moments of Growth
True growth happens not only in big moments but in ordinary days when we bravely break through
ourselves.
Last month,I signed up for an English speech contest.I devoted my spare time to polishing my speech and
consulted my teacher repeatedly.Yet standing on the stage,I was overcome with nervousness and almost froze.I
was about to give up when I thought of my teacher's warm encouragement, which gave me strength and calmed
me down. Finally,I delivered the speech fluently.Though I failed to win a prize,I gained precious courage.
This experience made me realize that true growth comes from daring to overcome our inner fears. It is
courage that really matters.Every brave attempt becomes a solid step that pushes us forward on the road to
growth

参考范文
The first thing was to encourage him to get back on his feet.Lucas walked over and repeated Grandpa's
words gently,"Don't panic.Hold on and you'll do better."He accompanied Grandpa to walk slowly in the quiet
yard lined with blooming roses. He patiently held Grandpa's arm whenever the old man's steps trembled, just as
Grandpa used to guide him when he was little. To cheer Grandpa up,Lucas shared interesting stories and recalled
their fun outing in the past.He kept telling Grandpa that persistence would finally pay off.Little by little,Grandpa
began to take small steps willingly, regaining a little courage and confidence.
Eventually,Grandpa was able to walk a long distance. They gradually expanded their walking route from
the yard to the country path nearby. One sunny afternoon,Grandpa took Lucas's hand, slowly heading for the
long-awaited secret waterfall. When the waterfall finally came into view,a bright smile spread across Grandpa's
face, sweeping away all his previous depression.Looking at Lucas with gratitude,Grandpa whispered,"Thank
you for never giving up on me."It was Lucas's company and encouragement that pulled him out of despair. The
special summer holiday taught Lucas that love and persistence are the greatest strength to overcome all
difficulties.

Text 10
Thank you all for choosing me as your class president. Also, thank you to Ms.Smith for all
her help. She's been with us ever since we were just young junior high school students. Now,as
we prepare to go to university,I think I can do some things to make us all enjoy being here this
year.It is not usually the president's job to make you study harder.Instead,I will make sure we all
have stuff to do outside of class. Our football field has no grass.Using donation boxes at the
school front desk,I will raise money to buy grass.People will pass this box when they drop off
their kids every morning. We have about a thousand students,so I think this will work. Also, the
previous president did a great job making field trips more fun.For example,we all went to the
history museum because he suggested it to the teachers.By writing a survey for you to fill out,I
hope to better understand what kind of field trips you want. That is all I have to say today. If you
want to ask any questions, you know where to find me.

As a young man,I drcamed of my idcal class where students with shining eyes werc
curious about everything before my first teaching year.I repeatedly pictured lively debates and
enthusiastic voices filling the room.
However,when I took charge of a tenth-grade English class at a New York school,reality
struck. These students had struggled with their studics at their previous schools and came here-
for a new chancc.I followed traditional teaching methods, carried out unchanging lesson plans
and stuck to strict classroom rules.
At the start of the term, all the students stared blankly at textbooks. They weren't ready to
sharc their ideas or join in class activities. After observing this discouraging situation for wecks,
I rcalizcd that strict and rigid (tcaching stopped students creating ncw ideas and killed
thcir intcrest in study, which left me wondering how I could improve my teaching.
I decided to try somcthing completely different. So I introduced the popular novel Harry
Pouer as our in-class reading text and dividod students into different Hogwarts tcams to perform
many interesting story-based group tasks.Students took part with great energy, discussed
actively, sharcd their special thoughts and coopcrated well with teammates,For the first time, the
classroom was full of inspiration instcad of cold rulcs-they felt seen, heard and valued.
From then on,my classcs ran smoothly. The students'eyes lit up with passion. They grew
far more willing to sharc idcas actively in class, and their acadcmic.performance improved
noticeably.
My first year of teaching has taught me a precious lesson.Real education never means
trapping students in fixed leaming modes or asking them to think in the same way.Instead,it
requires teachers to leave room for students'independent thinking and awaken their inner desire
for growth.Every student has crcative ideas and great potential )which can be fully
developed in a free and open leaming environment.

Coral rcefs ()which support 25%of occan specics and provide income for half a
billion people, are facing a global crisis. From 2024 to 2025,the northem Great Barrier Reef lost
nearly a quarter of its coral cover, and 84%of reefs worldwide suffered mnss bleaching ()
Some large projects, like the 10-million-dollar Mars Coral Reef Restoration Project, which
has planted baby corals by hand since 2006 and restored about 27 acres of coral reefs at a rate of
400 meters per day, tried hard to make up for the massive loss.Yet all their work was wiped out
by a serious bleaching event."This is the first time we bave bcen at risk of losing an cntire
branch of the trec of life,".says Alex;an ocean scicntist
To address this problem,;scicntists are turning to tobotics. The Deployment Guidance
Sysicm(DGS),the world's6 rst automated(自动化的)underwater coral planter,,'is changing the
game.Using Al.it identifies suitable planting sites and drops baby corals in just half a second-
much fasier and more accurately than human divers. In addition, the DGS trounces current
techniques when it comes to cost, cutting the cxpense dramatically from S8 per baby coral
manually to mercly SI with the robot.
With occan tempcratures rising, robots are also helping scientists devote more cncrgy to
breeding corals that can fight against heat.In a Florida Inb,Enochs uses robotic systems
to expose corals to much warmer water, sclecting the survivors to breed heat-hardy baby coruls.
Robots test far more samples.than ever beforc, turning, the process into a production-line
opcration....
Indeed,Phanor, the reef restoration program manager at CRF,points out that the problems
facing coml reefs extend.beyond what technology alone can solve,Addressing the underlying
issues like warming ocdans and pollution requires political support and community efforts.
Even so,robotic restoration still acts as a powerful temporary helper in rcef protection.
Tune will tell whether it'll be able to save the reefs in the long run. With determination on his
fuce,Enochs suys,"Until I see the last coral die, there is hope."

Nowadays, digital communication tools such as texts, video calls and emails have become
the main wuys for people to kecp in touch.Yet people hold differeat opinions about whether
text-based communication can build close emotional bonds the samc way voice
communication(phone,video chat and voice chat)does.
To figure out how different communication forms influence interpersonal ties, rescarchers
conducted a series of expcrimcnts. In a field cxperiment, participants were asked to reconnect
with an old friend cither over the phone or c-mail.Other laboratory participants wero invited to
chat with a stranger over vidco, voicc or text-based media. Results suggested that voice
communication creatcd stronger social ties and no incrcase in cmbarrassment, comparcd with
text-based interactions.Thesc findings break young people's common misunderstanding that
they can stay away from the social awkwardness by preferring a more indirect environment
A further study also proved the limitations of toxt-based communioation. In the experiment,
teenagers were divided into two groups after finishing a stressful task:One group toxted their
mothers for comfort, while the other made phone calls. The research found that only voice calls
could bring about an obvious drop in teenagers'stress hormoncs.Although text messages are not
cold or meaningless, thcy fail to produco the same biological cffect as sinccre spoken words.
From a biological view, hearing a familiar warn voice through voice communication can
directly calm people's nervous system and case stress.Text-based communication only delivers
written information, lacking the real-time cmotional feedback.Even carefully written comforting
words cannot bring the same positive pbysical reaction when pcople face pressure and anxiety.
Overall, although digital text-based communication brings certain convenicnce,it can nover
replace spoken interuction in building real social connectious.Instead of hiding behind typed
words,we should make phone calls or voice chats with family and fricnds regularly to dovelop
real and lasting cmotional tics.

As a young man,I dreamed of my ideal class where students with shining eyes wcre
curious about everything before my first teaching year.I repeatedly pictured lively debates and
enthusiastic voices filling the room.
However,when I took charge of a tenth-grade English class at a New York school,reality
struck.Thesc students had struggled with their studies at their previous schools and came here
for a new chance.I followed traditional teaching methods, camried out unchanging lesson plans
and stuck to strict classroom rules.
At the start of the term, all the students stared blankly at textbooks. They weren't ready to
share their ideas or join in class activities. After observing this discoumging simation for wecks,
I realized that strict and rigid (teaching stopped students creating new ideas and killed
their interest in study, which left me wondering how I could improve my teaching.
I decided to try something completely different. So I introduced the popular novel Harry
Porer as our in-class reading text and dividod sindents into different Hogwarts teams to perform
many interesting story-based group tasks.Students took part with great energy, discussed
nctively, sharcd their special thoughts and cooperated well with tcammates. For the first time, the
classroom was full ofinspiration instcad of cold rulcs-they felt seen, heard and valued.
From then on,my classes nin smoothly. The students'eyes lit up with passion. They grew
far more willing to share ideas actively in class, and their academic.performance improved
noticeably.
My first year of teaching has taught me a precious lesson.Real education never means
trapping students in fixed leaming modes or asking them to think in the same way,Instead,it
requires teachers to leave room for students'independent thinking and awaken their inncr desire
for growth.Every student has creative ideas and great potential(),which can be fully
developed in a free and open leaming cnvironment.

400 meters per day, tried bard to make up for the massive loss Yel all their work was wiped out
by a serious bleaching event."This is the first time we bave been at risk of losing an cntire
branch of the trec of life,"says Alex,an occan scicntist
To address this problem, scichtists are turning to tobotics. The Deployment Guidance
Sysicm(DGS),the world's first automated(自动化的)underwater coral planter,is changing the
game.Using Al.it identifics suitable planting sites and drops baby corls in just bulfa second-
much fuster and more accurately than buman divers. In addition, the DOS trounces current
techniques when it comes to cost, cutting the cxpense dramatically from S8 per baby coral
manually to merely SI with the robot.
With occn temperatures rising, robots are also belping sclentists devote more cnergy to
breeding (T)comls ihat can fight against heat.In a Florida lab,Enochs uses robotic systemns
to expose comals to much warmer water, sclecting the survivors to brecd heat-hardy baby coruls.
Robots test far more samples than ever before, turning.the process into a production-line
opcration..
Indeed,Phanor, the reef restoration program manager at CRF,points out that the problems
facing coml rcefs extend.beyond what techoology alone can solve,Addressing the underlying
issues like warming ocdans and pollution requires political support and community efforts.
Even so,robotic restoration still acts ns a powerful temporary helper in reef protection.
/Pune will tell whether it'll be able to save the reefs in the long run. With determination on his
face,Enochs says,"Until I see the last cornl die, there is hope.

Nowadays, digital communication tools such as texts, vidco calls and emails have become
the main wmys for pcople to keep in touch.Yet people hold different opinions about whether
text-based communication can build close cmotional bonds the same way voice
communication (phone, vidco chat and voice chat)does,
To figure out how different communication forms influcnce interpersonal ties, rescarchers
conducted a scrics of experiments. In a field experiment, purticipants were asked to reconncct
with an old fricnd cither over the phone or e-mail.Other laboratory participants wera invited to
chat with a stranger over video, voice or text-based medin. Results suggested that voice
communication created stronger social ties and no increase in cmbarrassment, compared with
text-based intornctions.Thesc findings break young people's common misunderstanding that
they can stay away from the social awkwardness by preferring a more indirect environment
A further study also proved the limitations of toxt-based communioation. In the expcriment,
tconagers were divided into two groups after finishing a stressful task:Ono group texted their
mothers for comfort, while the other made phone calls. The research found that only voice calls
could bring about an obvious drop in teenagers'stress hormones.Although text messages ure not
cold or meaningless, thcy fail to produco the snme biological efTect ns sincere spoken words.
From a biological view, hearing a familiar waan voice through voiee communication can
directly calm pcoplo's nervous system and ease stress.Text-based communication only delivers
written information, lacking the real-time cmotional feedback Even carefully written comforting
words cannot bring the same positive pbysical reaction when pcople face pressure and anxiety.
Overall, although digital text-based communication brings cortain convenionce,it can nover
replace spoken interuction in building real social conncctious.Instead of hiding bchind typed
words,we should make phone calls or voice chats with fmily and frionds regularly to dovelop
real and Insting cmorional ties.
