At first look,Reagan Bischoff appears to be an average 13-year-old.The 8th grader loves to
hang out with her friends, and play lacrosse(长曲棍球).Reagan, though,is far from average.
When she was 2 months old,she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy ()which limits the use

The rise of artificial intelligence has led some to predict that books, once the cornerstone of
knowledge sharing, may soon become outdated.AI systems can process vast amounts of text and
extract key information far more quickly than a human reader. In fields like finance, law, and
healthcare,AI-powered tools analyze documents, identify trends, and summarize literature in
minutes. For busy professionals, this makes AI a replacement for traditional non-fiction books,
which require time-consuming page-by-page reading. Some even argue that AI's ability to
deliver precisely what readers need could one day make printed books unnecessary.
菲
Yet those who champion books are not without opposing views.First, they point out that

AI's output is never truly original.Machine learning algorithms are trained on existing
human works-books,articles,and other texts.Without this raw material,AI would have
nothing to generate but recycled ideas. This dependence has already caused legal issues, with
authors like George R.R.Martin charging OpenAI with using their writings without permission.
In this view, books are not replaceable data sources;they are the very foundation of AI's
intelligence.
Second, reading a book offers an experience that AI cannot reproduce. When people read,
they discover unexpected perspectives and engage in deep reflection.AI tools like ChatGPT or
summary apps are designed to provide short answers, requiring neither sustained attention nor
emotional involvement. In contrast,a long-form book encourages readers to follow a narrative,
visualize scenes, and empathize with characters.AI may generate a fictional story, but its plots
often feel recycled, and its emotional depth is shallow.Few readers truly connect with a
character born of an algorithm.
So,where does this leave us?AI undeniably offers speed and efficiency. However, books
provide originality, emotional richness, and a unique reading experience that AI cannot match.
Rather than replacing each other, the two may well coexist-each serving different human
needs.
28.What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To give a definition.
B.To raise a question
C.To provide an example.
D.To introduce the topic.
29.What does the underlined word"champion"in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Defend.
B.Win.
C.Ignore
D.Publish
30.Why is the example of author George mentioned?
A.To show that famous writers fear being replaced.
B.To prove that AI reads more efficiently than humans.
C.To support the view that AI depends on human books.
D.To argue that AI companies shouldn't use published books.
31.What can be learned about AI-generated stories?
A.They suit busy readers.
B.They lack emotional depth
C.They provide short plots.
D.They could grow more creative

The world's waterways are becoming increasingly polluted with medical and illegal drugs
一and these pollutants are slowly going into marine animals..Cocaine(可卡因),specifically,
has been found in sharks, shrimp, mussels and eels. But exactly how these human-caused
pollution might be affecting wildlife has remained mysterious. Now,new research offers a first
look at how cocaine can change the behavior of fish in the wild.
Young Atlantic salmon(鲑鱼)exposed to cocaine's primary metabolite(代谢物))一the
compound created when human bodies break down the drug, which gets released into
wastewater-swam farther than the drug-free ones in a Swedish lake, researchers report in a
study published April 20 in the journal Current Biology.
The scientists visited an Atlantic salmon hatchery in southern Sweden, where they fitted
105 two-year-old hatchery-raised fish with tracking tags and slow-release capsule implants.One
third of the group received implants that gradually released cocaine.Another third received
implants that released cocaine's main metabolite, benzoylecgonine. The final third-the control
group-received implants with no drug. Then, the young fish entered Lake Vattern,a large lake
roughly 150 miles southwest of Stockholm, where their movements were tracked for eight
weeks.
The benzoylecgonine-exposed salmon swam up to almost twice as far each week compared
with drug-free salmon, the researchers found.Near the end of the study period, the
metabolite-exposed fish had wandered up to about 20 miles from the release site, while the
control fish had traveled up to roughly 12 miles.Fish that received the cocaine treatment showed
a similar pattern, although the effect was weaker and less consistent.
"The findings confirm the need to carefully understand and manage all of the diverse
chemicals society uses that can end up in our waterways,"said Mark Servos,an ecotoxicologist
at the University of Waterloo in Canada who was not involved in the research.
32.How did the scientists do the research?
A.By theoretical analysis
B.By data survey.
C.By controlled experiment.
D.By documentary research.
33.What effect did the metabolite have on the salmon?
A.It had no observable effect.
B.It made them swim much farther.
C.It caused them to swim more slowly.
D.It produced the same effect as cocaine.
34.What does Mark Servos imply about the research?
A.Illegal drug emission must be banned.
B.Waterway pollution requires diverse solutions
C.Chemical management in waterways should be enhanced.
D.Human-used chemicals have already caused severe pollution worldwide.

Forming a new habit is rarely easy, but understanding the psychology behind it can make
the process smoother. When trying to build a new habit, people often depend entirely on
motivation.36Rather than relying on passing motivation,it is much more effective to
focus on building a regular routine.
A useful method for habit building is "habit stacking."This means connecting a new
behavior to a current habit that you already do automatically every day.37By tying this
new action to a firmly fixed one,you use the power of your current routine instead of willpower.
Your environment also plays a major role in shaping your behavior. If you want to eat
healthier snacks, putting a bowl of fruit on the kitchen counter makes the healthy choice the
simplest one.38Making good habits obvious and bad habits hidden greatly increases
your chances of success.
Additionally, tracking your progress is essential.Recording your daily efforts, whether on a
calendar or through an app, gives you visual proof of your hard work.Seeing a chain of
successful days motivates you to keep going.39 Just get back on track the next day
without feeling guilty.
Lastly, patience is key.Behavioral change takes time, and the results are seldom immediate.
Many people give up just before they are about to experience a breakthrough because they
expect quick results.40
A.If you miss a day, don't let it ruin your overall progress.
B.However, the problem is that motivation disappears easily.
C.Therefore,it is important to celebrate every achievement.
D.So stick with it,and success will arrive sooner than you think.
E.Over time, both habits will become a natural part of your life.
F.Hiding junk food in a high cupboard adds unnecessary difficulty.
G.For example,if you want to go for a walk,do it right after having lunch.

I had always loved drawing. For as long as I could remember, lines and colors were my safe
place.Whenever I felt too stressed by schoolwork or tired from daily life,I would sit in the small
wooden chair by my bedroom window. With my paintbrushes on my knees, all the loud noise of
the world would disappear. In those moments,I wasn't drawing for anyone else;I was just
happy.
When the school's yearly art festival was announced,I gathered the courage to hand in a
painting of a sunset. For the next week,I kept imagining my work hanging proudly under the
bright lights of the exhibition hall.
However, reality hurt.On the morning the results came out,a big crowd stood around the
notice board.I pushed my way through the other students,my heart beating fast, and looked
down the list of chosen artists.I read it once. Then twice. My name was not there.
As I stood there, feeling frozen and sad,a classmate saw my face.Trying to comfort me
一but in a very careless way一he said,“Maybe you're just not good at it.”His words hit me
harder than the rejection itself. They felt like a final judgment. That evening,I quietly locked my
paintbrushes in the drawer.

gardener. He was carefully caring for a dying azalea().Seeing my sad face,he smiled and
asked me to help him loosen the soil.
Looking at the dying plant,I sighed,"It probably won't bloom beautifully anymore."
Steve pointed to a tiny, green bud (hidden under a dry leaf, saying gently."This one
missed the spring, but its roots are still alive. It blooms beautifully for itself, not to compete with
other flowers."
