In 2008, I was hiking in the mountains with some friends when one of them fell and got a bad head injury. We had to find help quickly, so we called an emergency number. It was already dark, and we couldn’t even see where we were. After some time, we heard dogs barking and the voices of the Blue Sky Rescue team. We were so thankful that they found us! I’ve never forgotten that day. Since then, I’ve wanted to help others too. I signed up with Blue Sky Rescue in 2009, and I’ve been a volunteer ever since. We’ve been to schools and other communities to teach children and adults how to stay safe and prepare for the worst. We’ve also rescued people during emergencies.
Working as a volunteer has taught me many practical life-saving skills. It has also helped me understand the power of teamwork because it’s the key to successful rescues. Most of all, being a volunteer has taught me the value of every life.
The work is difficult. It’s voluntary, so we aren’t paid. We often go without food or sleep. But our primary goal has always been to save as many people as we can. I’m just an ordinary person, but I’ll rush into danger, just like everyone else in Blue Sky Rescue. To the people we’ve saved and their loved ones, I know we’re their heroes. And that makes everything we do worth it.

根据第一段“Wendy lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Darling, and her brothers, John and Michael, at number 14.”

Mrs Woo said that her husband had just left for work when she felt that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children. “There was no time to take anything,” she said. “A few minutes later, the roof came down.”

Passage4
About three years ago, my grandpa died in a traffic accident. My grandma felt lonely. She came to Australia from the Netherlands to live with us. She loved cooking and collecting different kitchen things. Her kitchen was full of nice cups, glasses and plates. Before coming to Australia, she had to make difficult choices. She stood in the kitchen and didn’t know what to bring with her. She spent many hours looking at everything and finally decided to take a set of plates made of china (瓷).
A few weeks after she came to Australia, a new friend invited her to have dinner at her house and asked her to bring a plate. My grandma didn’t know why, but her English was very poor and she couldn’t ask clearly what she meant. On that day, she chose her nicest china plate and brought it to her friend’s house. She was sure everyone would like it. When she arrived at her friend’s house, she proudly put the plate on a table. To her surprise, around her empty plate were plates full of different kinds of food. “There must be something wrong,” she said to herself. Her friend smiled when she saw her empty plate. “‘Bring a plate’ means ‘bring some food’ in Australia,” her friend said.
After hearing that, Grandma’s face turned red. She learned a good lesson that day. Since then, she has never brought an empty plate to anyone’s house again.

B. To encourage people to learn English well.
C. To invite people to visit Australia and the Netherlands.
D. To show the cultural differences between Australia and the Netherlands.
D 24. C 25. B 26. D

并且,它与后一句“Instead, they think dragons are a symbol…”
而空格后的句子解释了一个商业俚语:“If a company has “red ink” or is “in the red”, it means that they are losing more money…”(如果一家公司有 “赤字” 或处于 “红字” 状态,这意味着他们亏钱了……)。
