Soon they found themselves in the middle of poppies. It is known that when there are many of these flowers together, their strong smell will make anyone breathing it fall asleep, even sleep forever. But Dorothy didn’t know this. Soon Dorothy’s eyes grew so heavy that she felt she had to sleep. Dorothy fell among the poppies, fast asleep.
“The smell is killing us all. If we leave her here, she will die.” said the Lion. “I can hardly keep my eyes open, and the dog Toto is asleep already.”
“Run fast and get out of here,” said the Scarecrow to the Lion, “We can carry the little girl, but you are too heavy.”
The Lion ran as fast as possible but he fell asleep before he was out of the field. Luckily, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman were not troubled by the smell. They made a chair with their hands and carried Dorothy through the flowers to the grass far enough from the poppy field.

In the summer holiday when I was getting ready to go to France, I was very excited because it meant that I could buy some new clothes and change my fashion a bit. I love fashion because I think it helps me show my character and highlight my style. It is easy to think of French fashion as stripy (有条纹的) Breton T-shirts and berets (贝雷帽). But, when I got to France, I found it was not like that.
In English schools, teachers always look very smart. We don’t wear jeans or sports shoes. Both men and women usually wear suits. However, when I got to the schools in France, I quickly learnt that it was not the same. First, the students do not wear uniforms (制服) and the teachers’ clothing is casual and comfortable. Most of the teachers in the school wear jeans, sports shoes and jumpers (针织套衫). It means I don’t need to worry about getting my clothes dirty and it is much more comfortable than wearing a skirt and a blouse.
As for young people in France, they also dress very casually. Jeans, boots and a jumper is a typical (典型的) look for a girl. They also wear a lot of black.
My idea of French fashion changes after I get to France and it shows how much you can learn about a country from living there. I envy (羡慕) the French women who dress casually but look fashionable. Maybe I will dress like them one day! For now, I will be in my own style. Fashion in France is so different from what most of us think.
53.What does the underlined word “highlight” mean in Chinese?
A.凸显 B.高光 C.染色 D.隐藏
54.What can you learn from Paragraph 1?
A.French fashion is different from what the writer thought. B.The writer loves fashion because she likes buying new clothes. C.French fashion is just about stripy Breton T-shirts and berets. D.After getting to France, the writer didn’t like French fashion.
55.What can you infer (推断) from the passage?
A.French fashion is not special. B.Teachers’ clothing in England is more casual than that in France.
C.Clothing of students and teachers in France is very casual. D.The writer will dress like French women soon.
56.In which part of a newspaper can we find this passage?
A.World Fashion. B.Healthy Life. C.Sports News. D.Animal World.
【答案】53.A 54.A 55.C 56.A
【导语】本文作者通过自己在法国的经历来讲述法国的时尚。
【详解】53.词义猜测题。根据“I love fashion because I think it helps me show my character and highlight my style.”可知,作者喜欢时尚是因为它能够展现自己的性格并凸显出自己的风格,划线单词表示“凸显”。故选A。
54.细节理解题。根据“It is easy to think of French fashion as stripy (有条纹的) Breton T-shirts and berets (贝雷帽). But, when I got to France, I found it was not like that.”可知,法国的时尚与作者想的不一样。故选A。
55.推理判断题。根据“First, the students do not wear uniforms (制服) and the teachers’ clothing is casual and comfortable. Most of the teachers in the school wear jeans, sports shoes and jumpers (针织套衫).”可知,法国学生和老师的服装很休闲。故选C。

When is the best time for us to enjoy the bright moon? Of course, it is Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important festivals in China. This year, the festival is on September 17th. 61 The tradition is thousands of years old.
62 We enjoy and admire it. We use the round and crescent moon (新月) to describe reunion (团聚) and separation (离别).
Our admiration to the moon can date back to ancient times. The legend (传说) of Chang’e flying to the moon is the most famous story about the moon. What’s more, many Chinese poets connect the moon with nostalgia (乡愁), for example, “ 63 Is it hoarfrost on the ground?” from Thoughts in the Silent Night by Tang dynasty poet Li Bai.
Today, the moon is still important to Chinese people, 64 The Miao nationality (苗族) in Guizhou Province has a special custom. On the night of Mid-Autumn Festival, young people dance under the moon to find their other half.
However, Western people see the moon differently. In their legends, the full moon is somewhat scary to people. 65 A werewolf (狼人) usually looks like a human, but changes into a wolf-like creature (生物) when there is a full moon. Also, if someone is very excited or even crazy about something, others may joke, “It must be a full moon.”
A.Beside my bed a pool of light.
B.especially in some parts of China.
C.When will the moon be clear and bright?
D.The most well-known legend is the werewolf.

62.第二段“We enjoy and admire it. We use the round and crescent moon to describe reunion and separation.”说明月亮对中国人很特别,F项“The moon, the key part of the festival, is special to most Chinese people.”引出下文对月亮重要性的具体说明,符合上下文逻辑。
63.第三段空白后为“Is it hoarfrost on the ground?”,前一句应引用李白《静夜思》首句的英文翻译,A项“Beside my bed a pool of light.”对应原诗“床前明月光”,与下句“疑是地上霜”形成完整诗句引用。
64.第四段“Today, the moon is still important to Chinese people”引出中国部分地区仍重视月亮,下文以贵州苗族为例说明特殊习俗,B项“especially in some parts of China.”承上启下,引出具体地区的例子。
65.第五段“In their legends, the full moon is somewhat scary to people.”说明西方传说中月亮令人害怕,下文以狼人传说为例,D项“The most well-known legend is the werewolf.”引出最著名的传说,符合下文对狼人的具体描述。
